Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a fluorescent lamp lighting apparatus, in which a parallel circuit of a relay exciting coil and a normally opened relay contact are connected between respective terminals of a pair of filaments that are not connected to the power source, whereby it is enabled to light the fluorescent lamp promptly in reliable manner, although the structure of the lighting apparatus is rather simple. CONSTITUTION:When power source E is connected, current is passed to exciting coil 2 via stabilizer 4 and filaments f1, f2, and normally opened contact 3 of relay Ry is closed. Thereupon, exciting coil 2 is short-circuited and de-energized, but a large current is passed to filaments f1, f2 since the contact 3 is held in its closed condition for only a short while, whereby fluorescent lamp 1 is pre-heated. When the normally opened contact 3 is opened, a large voltage is impressed across the opposite terminals of lamp 1 so that is is lighted instantaneously. When the lamp 1 is lighted, voltage across the lamp 1 is kept at a discharge maintaining voltage, about one half of the starting voltage, and relay Ry is kept in its non-energized condition.
