Abstract
1463044 Two part couplings; direct connections INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 17 April 1975 [24 June 1974] 15774/75 Heading H2E An electrical contact assembly comprises a spaced set of first contacts, e.g. 13, 15, 18 arranged in a line and a co-operating series of second contacts 31-37 which are elongate and converge from a spacing greater than that of the first set of contacts to a spacing less than the first set, ensuring that in spite of inaccuracies in the manufacture which may cause spacing variations in the contacts, the two sets of contacts may still be brought fully into register. A mask 21 with a window or windows 23 is placed between the two sets of contacts to insulate parts other than those to be connected and the whole assembly may be held in place by a clamp and rubber blocks which act to press the conductors into engagement through the window. The substrate 11 may be of glass or plastics and the insulating support 29 is preferably of transparent plastics which allows the contacts to be viewed as the assembly is brought into register. The contacts may alternatively be soldered together through the window or the mask dispensed with, the contacts being mounted face to face or being provided with small pads on each of the contacts of the set 12.
