1492237 Bearings NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 17 June 1976 [30 June 1975] 25104/76 Heading F2A An axle shaft and road wheel hub assembly comprises a road wheel hub 12 having a bore 14 therethrough, an axle shaft 16 having an end portion 18 disposed within the bore, two bearings 20, 22 disposed between the inner surface of the bore and the shaft end portion, said bearings being axially spaced from each other to define therebetween a chamber 24, and two annular walls 40, 42 disposed within the chamber adjacent the bearings, respectively, each wall extending inwardly from the inner surface of the bore towards the shaft end portion, the walls preventing grease around the bearings from leaking axially towards the chamber. Each wall may be provided with an annular groove facing the associated bearing, the groove functioning to direct grease from the bearing back towards the bearing. The groove may have a rounded or flat bottom surface, and may be radially inwardly open. In a further embodiment, the walls are not integral with the hub but are formed on the ends of a generally cylindrical member of rubber which is received within the bore.
