The present invention relates to crash stops that are cast into the vehicle. Linear actuators are used to carry a magnetic head into engagement with a recording disk. Linear actuators are used in magnetic disk drives, CD players and optical recording drives. These actuators typically use a voice coil motor to move the actuator carriage. U.S. Pat. No. 4,939,611 to Connolly and U.S. Pat. No. 5,134,608 to Strickler et al. Describe the use of a collision stop in a disk drive having a rotary or linear actuator. A typical disk drive crash stop is made of a foam material that provides the required damping. These foam parts are typically affixed to the proper location on the drive. This requires additional steps in the assembly process and adds component and production costs due to assembly errors. It is an object of the present invention to simplify the disk drive assembly and provide a more reliable crash stop. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to the present invention, two leaves (or resilient plates) are cast into a holding plate of a magnetic disk drive. These leaves are elastic and provide adequate shock resistance (shock resistance) for stopping the carriage of the magnetic disk drive. When the carriage collides with this stop, the impact energy is absorbed by these leaves and dissipated by various friction members such as bearings, head wipers and heads. The carriage is arranged on a central guide, which is held in place by columns on a holding plate. The collision stopping device is formed by casting a leaf into this support. By manufacturing this collision stop device as part of the holding plate molding process, additional steps are avoided in the manufacturing process. Component costs and production costs due to assembly errors are avoided. Furthermore, according to the invention, the spring constant of the molded crash stop is more constant, in contrast to the exponentially increasing spring constant obtained with a foam crash stop, for example. The foregoing and other objects, features and advantages of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following more detailed description and the appended claims. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 shows the disk drive of the present invention with the cover removed, FIG. 2 shows the actuator of the present invention, FIG. 3 is an exploded view of the actuator, and FIG. 4 is an enlarged view of the actuator. FIG. 5 is an enlarged view of the collision stopping device of the present invention, and FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the disk drive. DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT FIG. 1 shows a disk drive for reading / writing data from / to a recording disk in a cartridge. This cartridge is inserted into the disk drive at position 11. At 13 the motor mounted on the platform 12 rotates the flexible disc in the scraper. This disk is engaged with read / write heads 14, 15 carried by the actuator of the present invention. Opposing read / write heads 14, 15 engage both sides of the disk. The read / write heads 14, 15 are mounted on a support for a standard Winchester hard disk drive, which is modified to include lifting rods 16, 17 (FIG. 2). The voice coil motor that drives the carriage 18 to engage and disengage the head with the recording medium includes a return path 20 (FIG. 1) and internal return paths 21 and 21a (FIG. 3). Voice coil 22 (FIGS. 2 and 3) is mounted on the carriage assembly. This voice coil is bonded to the carriage assembly. When the voice coil 22 is energized, it interacts with the magnet to move the carriage 18 linearly and engage the read / write heads 14, 15 with concentric tracks on the disk. The carriage includes two lightweight arms 24, 26 (FIG. 4). The carriage moves on a central guide track 28, which is a cylindrical member, which in the preferred embodiment is a thin wire. The carriage has cylindrical bushings 30, 32, through which a central guide track 28 extends. Guide tracks 28 align read / write heads 14, 15 with the disk and motor. In the preferred embodiment, the bushings 30, 32 are sapphire gem bearings. When the carriage moves on the center guide track 28, the outrigger guide 31 moves along the outrigger track 33 to stabilize the carriage. A flex circuit 34 (FIG. 6) provides the electrical connection between the read / write heads 14, 15 and the circuitry of the disk drive. When no setup is present in the disk drive, the solenoid 36 activates the platform latch 38 to immobilize the carriage. Platform latches 38 secure the carriage. When the carriage is actuated to engage the read / write head with the disk, loading ramps 40, 42 cause the head to be loaded onto the disk. The holding plate 44 includes a return member 20, 21, 21a, a flexible circuit 34, a solenoid 36 (fitted into the holding plate recess 36a), a platform latch 38, and a loading ramp injection assembly 40, 42. Is held in place. The struts 45 extend from the holding plate and hold the ends of the cylindrical guide track 28. According to the invention, leaves 46, 48 are cast into holding plate 44 (FIGS. 5 and 6). The leaves 46, 48 are arranged in recesses 50, 52 of the holding plate 44. The recesses 50, 52 add the length of the leaves 46, 48, otherwise the length will be limited by the available space. This provides the leaves 46, 48 with the desired elasticity to absorb shocks in the available space. When the carriage 18 moves linearly toward the end of the movement path, the carriage collides with the leaves 46 and 48. The impact energy is absorbed by the leaves and is dissipated by various members held in place by the holding plate 44. While a particular embodiment of the present invention has been shown and described, various modifications may be made. All such changes as fall within the true spirit and scope of the invention are covered by the appended claims.

The present invention relates to linear actuators for transporting an actuator into engagement with a recording medium, and more particularly to crash stops cast into a holding plate of such an actuator.
