2. Description of the Related Art Unsaturated polyester resin molded products have excellent mechanical strength, heat resistance, water resistance, chemical resistance and high productivity. For example, bathtubs, bathroom panels, water tank panels, septic tanks, kitchens Widely used for counter tops and the like. 2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, unsaturated polyester sheet molding compounds (SMC) or bulk molding compounds (BMC) have been spotlighted as automotive exterior panels and exterior plastic materials, such as trunk panels, roofs, fenders, and other major materials, and spoilers. It has also been used for exterior parts such as main outer panels and spoilers. SMC or BMC used for automobile outer panels and exteriors is required to have particularly high surface smoothness, and in recent years, products obtained by plating molded products have been receiving attention, and are used for truck front panels and the like. I have. This method uses an in-mold coating (IMC) method to apply paint that is easily electrolessly plated on SMC molded products.
Electroplating is performed after electroless plating. (JP-A-4-228592). However, in the conventional techniques, the IMC paint must be easily electrolessly plated, and there are few techniques for selecting the paint and the restrictions are large. In addition, the IMC method is a method of injecting a paint into a mold during compression molding of SMC or the like, and there are many restrictions on equipment for injecting and molding conditions. Further, in this method, since the IMC coating film is formed only on the surface, plating can be performed only on the surface side of the molded product. For this reason, when plating on both the front and back surfaces, plating is performed after spraying a paint that is easily plated on the surface without the IMC coating film. Next, in order to use the IMC method, there are many restrictions on the shape of a molded product. That is, since the IMC paint flows on the upper surface of the molded product during the compression molding, if there is a step or a nearly vertical surface in the flow surface, the flow of the paint is interrupted or the coating film thickness becomes thin. As described above, the conventional technology has many problems and is one of the major obstacles in developing a plated product of an unsaturated polyester resin molded product.

That is, the present invention provides an unsaturated polyester resin, a vinyl monomer, an aromatic vinyl / conjugated diene block copolymer, calcium carbonate and a filler having good chemical resistance. The present invention relates to a method for plating a molded article obtained from a characteristic unsaturated polyester resin composition and a molding material comprising the composition. The unsaturated polyester resin composition has excellent mechanical strength, heat resistance, water resistance, and chemical resistance, as well as high surface quality (surface smoothness) particularly required for application to automobile outer panels, and It has fast curing properties and also exhibits very good storage stability. Further, a sheet obtained by impregnating glass fiber together with the unsaturated polyester resin composition so that glass fiber, for example, one having a length of 1/4 inch to 4 inches becomes 10 to 40% by weight of the total composition. Shaped or bulk-shaped molding materials are useful as molding materials for manufacturing automobile outer panels and exterior parts. Further, this molding material gives excellent surface smoothness (a molded product having little waving or a small sink of the rib / boss portion), and this molded product is used for plating of ordinary ABS resin or the like. Electroplating can be performed through chemical etching and electroless plating. The plated product obtained in this way can provide a plated surface without impairing the excellent surface smoothness inherent in the unsaturated polyester resin molded product, and is particularly useful for application to automobile outer panels.

The unsaturated polyester resin composition of the present invention may optionally contain a compound having a polymerization inhibiting action, an organic peroxide, a thickener, a release agent, and a pigment.
Examples of the organic peroxide include tertiary butyl peroxybenzoate, tertiary butyl isopropyl carbonate, and the like. Thickeners include magnesium or calcium oxides or hydroxides. As the release agent, surfactants such as fatty acids such as stearic acid and mystyric acid, and metal salts of fatty acids such as zinc stearate and calcium stearate are used. The unsaturated polyester resin composition of the present invention may optionally contain a filler, a thickener, and a pigment. Examples of the filler include calcium carbonate, aluminum hydroxide, clay, glass balloon, silica, plastic balloon and the like. Thickeners include magnesium or calcium oxides or hydroxides. Examples of the release agent include fatty acids such as stearic acid and mystyric acid, metal salts of fatty acids such as zinc stearate and calcium stearate, and surfactants such as phosphate esters. The unsaturated polyester resin composition containing such various compounds is impregnated into glass fibers (for example, having a fiber diameter of 8 to 20 μm and a length of 1/4 to 4 inches) by using ordinary means and equipment. By doing so, a molding material such as a sheet-like sheet molding compound (SMC) or a bulk-like bulk molding compound (BMC) can be obtained. The glass fiber is usually blended in an amount of 10 to 40% by weight based on the total amount of the unsaturated polyester resin composition. The molding material of the present invention is heated and compressed in a mold (pressure 20 to 130 kgf / cm 2 , temperature 110 to 180 °).
Then, the molded product can be manufactured by curing.

Water washing, sensitivity imparting, water washing, activation imparting, water washing, chemical plating (electroless plating), water washing, strike plating, water washing,
A plated product having a high surface smoothness can be obtained by performing the processes of electrolytic copper plating, water washing, electric nickel plating, water washing, electrochromic plating, water washing, and drying in this order. Also,
Constituents of the unsaturated polyester resin composition of the present invention, an unsaturated polyester resin, a vinyl monomer, an aromatic vinyl / conjugated diene block copolymer, calcium carbonate,
If at least one of the fillers having good chemical resistance is lacking, it becomes difficult to plate a molded product obtained by molding the same by the usual plating method described in the present invention. In order to plate the unsaturated polyester resin molded product obtained in the present invention, chemical etching is performed. At this time, calcium carbonate and an aromatic vinyl / conjugated diene block copolymer are attacked, and chemical resistance is good. Since the filler is not attacked, many fine holes are opened in the surface. In the plating step, a plating layer is firmly adhered to these anchor-shaped holes, and a plated surface having good adhesion and a smooth surface is obtained. Hereinafter, the present invention will be described with reference to examples.

cm 2, mold temperature 150 pressurized under predetermined conditions in °, to produce a molded article of the plate (500 × 300 × 2.5mm). The comparative example shows a molded article from an aromatic vinyl / conjugated diene block copolymer which is an essential component of the present invention, a filler having good chemical resistance, and a composition not using calcium carbonate. Table 2 shows the plating steps performed. The surface smoothness of the molded product was measured on an area of 10 × 10 inches at the center of the molded product using a surface smoothness measuring device Luloria, manufactured by Ashland of the United States. The smaller the measured value, the better the surface smoothness Indicates that Surface roughness is JIS-B
The center line average roughness (Ra) based on −0601. The adhesion was measured by making a 10 mm scratch on the plating layer with a cutter knife, and sandwiching the end with a chuck of a tensile tester.
A tensile test was performed at an angle of ° to measure the adhesion.
