Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the amt. of an oil-absorbent material used and the numbers of recovery containers required, enable the collection of a large amt. of oil in a short time, reduce an irritative odor and the amt. of vapor, and enable the scattering of an oil-absorbent material in the air and the filtration of oils and chemical substances by using an oil-absorbent material prepd. by causing peat, etc., to absorb a water-repellent or waterproofing liq. SOLUTION: Chaff, active carbon, saw dust, paper, cloth, filters, sponge, cork, cotton, sea sponge, wood, hair, glass fibers, foamed styrene, ceramics, polypropylene, cellulose, urethane foam, and other porous materials and materials having capillary action can be used in addition to peat. Silicone resins, Teflon resins, alcohols, fluorine-base water-repellent agents, concentrated ceramics, etc., be used as the water-repellent or waterproofing liq. When caused to absorb such a liq. and dried, peat changes into a special material which does not absorb water and absorb oil or specific chemical substances only.

The conventional method has the following disadvantages. a The conventional adsorbent absorbs both water and oil, so the oil recovery is poor. b. Separation of water and oil takes time and recovery takes time. (c) Since oil is a volatile liquid, irritating odors and the like caused by volatile components and sulfur compounds contained in the oil have a bad influence on the human body of the recovery operator. d If gasoline or thinner spilled, there was a danger of ignition or explosion due to volatilization. e If the oil is collected by the conventional method, it takes a long time to collect the oil, and the damage is greatly increased. f When bacteria are used to remove oils and chemicals in septic tanks, it is difficult to identify the type of bacteria,
Further, there are many difficult aspects such as stabilization of the pH in the septic tank for keeping bacteria alive.

FIG. 1 is a sectional view showing an embodiment. The peat (2) contained in the container (1) is a material obtained from natural soil and is a natural material. Each of these materials is porous. Oil is absorbed into these pores, but as it is, water will also be absorbed with the oil, so that normal peat (2) is repellent or waterproof liquid (3) such as silicone resin, Teflon When resin and alcohols, fluorine-based water repellents, concentrated ceramics, etc. are absorbed and dried, peat has a special property of absorbing only oil and specific chemical substances without absorbing water. The characteristics of this peat are
It is the most suitable for absorbing and recovering oil spilled on the sea. The reason is that it can be sprayed in the air, absorbs only oil, floats on water, does not pollute the environment with natural resources, does not pollute the surroundings with oil-absorbed peat, reduces volatile vapors, separates water and oil No work is required.

According to the present invention, the following effects can be obtained. a. The oil absorbing material of the present invention absorbs oil but not water, so that the amount of the absorbing material used and the required amount of the collecting container are minimized. b. The oil absorbing material of the present invention absorbs oil inside the hole,
You can drain the water by scooping up the absorbent from water. Therefore, a large amount of oil can be recovered in a short time because there is no need to separate water and oil. c Since the oil absorbing material of the present invention absorbs oil inside the hole,
The irritating odor due to volatile vapors and sulfur compounds from the oil
Significantly reduced compared to before absorption. Therefore, there is almost no effect on the human body for the worker. d When a highly volatile liquid such as gasoline is absorbed by the oil absorbing material of the present invention, the volatilization amount is reduced to one-tenth or less. Danger can be avoided. e Since the oil absorbent of the present invention is in the form of fine particles, it can be sprayed in the air using a helicopter. Moreover, once the oil is absorbed, the oil does not adhere to other things. Therefore, if a large amount of oil absorbing material is sown in a short time to absorb the oil, the damage of the oil can be minimized. f Oil and specific chemical substances in the septic tank can be absorbed and removed by filtration using the oil absorbing material of the present invention.
