Plant parameter detection by power spectral density monitoring
This patent application is part of US Patent Application 08 / 034,058 filed March 22, 1993.
It is a continuation application.
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a process control device, and in particular, to the power spectrum density of a parameter.
Determining whether a process parameter is in a steady or unsteady state by degree
Device.
Background of the Invention
In dynamic plant processing, process variables can be in a steady or unsteady state.
You also need to know if there is. Many process controllers monitor plant variables and
These are compared to a predetermined set point, but the plant variables are set over time.
It is useful to know if plant variables that are far from the fixed point are significantly far from the normal range.
Sometimes it is more important. Output of plant parameters may lead to unsteady state
It is also important to be able to predict or indicate a certain initial state.
There are many conventional technologies for monitoring plant parameters for process control.

The averager takes the average of each of the test signal and the reference signal, and calculates the distance between them (ie,

Detailed description of the invention
The apparatus and method practiced by the present invention can be used in a steady state or unsteady state
Determine if it is working. Simply put, this device has defined process variables.
Determine the reference power spectral density (PSD) of the process variable while in normal conditions
You. Power spectral density is the energy content of a signal as a function of its component frequency.
Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) that represents a quantity and transforms a time domain signal into a frequency domain representation
).
Performing a first normalization procedure on the signal from which the reference PSD is obtained,
To obtain a zero mean criterion. This normalization is based on the time series average processing of the sampled data values.
This is achieved by subtracting the variable values from each time series sampled data value. Calculate spectrum
Divide each power value of the spectrum by the number of time-series signal samples used for
Perform a second normalization procedure on the data. The first normalization procedure is:
One stored reference PSD as reference for all subsequent test procedures
To be used and to adjust multiple reference spectra or reference spectra.
Eliminate the need for ease procedures. The second normalization procedure is the current P
Even if the time window in which SD and the reference PSD are obtained is different, the reference PSD is
Be able to compare with existing PSD.
The reference PSD is the current PSD obtained when the process variable is being calculated.
Be compared. The current PSD is based on the first and second normalizations described above for the reference PSD.
The procedure is also executed. The current PSD is too energy relative to the reference PSD
Is large (either a slow change like a ramp or a fast change like a spike)
) And the process variable is determined to be unsteady and this condition is signaled

Returning to FIG. 1, the flow monitoring devices 10 and 12 change the state of the flow rate of the
Each is monitored continuously. Pipes 14 and 16 form part of the plant,

A central processing unit (CPU) 24 is interconnected with a bus 22 and has an A / D converter.
Data sampled at a fixed time interval therefrom.
So that A read only memory (ROM) 25 is connected to the bus 22,
The procedure for operating the U24 to monitor the sensors 10 and 12 and the CPU 24

No.
The operation of the device of FIG. 1 will now be described with reference to the flowcharts shown in FIGS. 2a and 2b. Most
First, a steady state (ie, reference) PSD is determined for the monitored process variable.
It is. Steady state PSD means that the plant first operates in steady state (box 30).
The output signal of the process variable is obtained by time sampling. steady state
To prevent PSD confusion, the time-sampled output signal is filtered and
Aperiodic signals are removed (box 32).
The filtered output sample is then used to generate a time series average of the sampled data values.
Process variables are subtracted from each time-series sampled data value and normalized to the zero mean standard.
You. This removes any operating state dependent bias (box 3).
3).
Next, the filtered and normalized periodic sample signal is read from ROM 24.
Under the control of the read procedure, the FFT analysis is performed by the central processing unit 24.
(Box 34). The second normalization procedure is where the time series samples are detected
Eliminate any biases obtained from the time window. Second Normalization Pro
The sequencer performs a "time" normalization of the frequency data for each spectral frequency data value.
To divide by the number of time samples.
The result of the PSD analysis is positive at the frequency (ωj) of the filtered steady state signal.
A series of normalized energy values, each energy normalized by frequency (ωj)
The value has an associated attribute that is proportional to the energy contained in the particular frequency signal
I have. These frequency and energy value attributes are the steady state (or reference) PSD
The data is stored in the RAM 26 as data.
At this point, the user submits the steady state PSD for each energy value attribute.
The provided multiplier coefficient is accessed. The multiplier factor is the current PSD of the process variable
Number that must exceed the reference PSD to be considered as being in an unsteady state
(Box 36). The device of FIG. 1
Is switched to the “current flow” monitoring state, and the device outputs from the sensors 10, 12, etc.
To monitor. When no sensor is monitoring, the output is FFT procedure
To the PSD representation, then the steady state PSD obtained before the same sensor

During operation (box 38), the output signal from the sensor (eg, 10) is sampled.

Filters the current sampled output signal to remove aperiodic components (both
Box 39), the filtered signal is zero-mean reference (exactly the same as the reference PSD)
The current, normalized using (Box 40) and sampled using the FFT procedure
Is calculated (Box 41). Each spectrum circumference
Wavenumber data values are divided by the number of time-series samples to "time" normalize the frequency data
I do. If the reference PSD and the current PSD data are normalized, different
Data can be compared even if a different time window is used
.
The user enters the current PSD (ωi) into its corresponding steady state PSD (ωj)
Is determined to be greater than the multiplied multiplier (boxes 42, 44)

Background of the Invention
In dynamic plant processing, process variables can be in a steady or unsteady state.
You also need to know if there is. Many process controllers monitor plant variables and
These are compared to a predetermined set point, but the plant variables are set over time.
It is useful to know if plant variables that are far from the fixed point are significantly far from the normal range.
Sometimes it is more important. Output of plant parameters may lead to unsteady state
It is also important to be able to predict or indicate a certain initial state.
There are many conventional technologies for monitoring plant parameters for process control.

Even if)
