Method and apparatus for producing ultra-low temperatures
The present invention relates to the expansion of helium in a cooling head of a refrigerator and the cooling head of the refrigerator.
Ultra-low temperature due to helium expansion in the downstream Joule-Thomson stage
It relates to a method for producing. The invention further provides a method for performing this method.
Regarding such devices.
Book "Cryo" by Ren`e A. Haefer
Pumping, Theory and Practice (Cryopumping, Th
eory and Practice), 1989, describes this type of method.
It is known. For the implementation of this, the Gifford McMahon principle (Giffor
d-McMahon-Principle) operated two-stage cooling head
Refrigerators with are used. Helium is guided in a circulating circuit as is well known.
It is. Helium is fed to the cooling head at 20 bar and 5 bar in both cooling stages.
And is guided back to the compressor. In the second circuit, approximately 2
0 bar helium is passed through a total of 5 heat exchangers in a series of Jules Thomson
It is supplied to the constriction of the step. Helium in the heat exchanger passes through the cooling head of the refrigerator
And expanded back in the Jules Thomson stage
Precooled through the helium. Helium inside Jules Thompson
Is inflated to 1 bar. Therefore, the compressor of the helium circulation circuit of the refrigerator
In addition to 1 bar of helium from the Jules Thomson stage up to 5 bar
Another compressor is provided for compression.
As mentioned above, the Joule-Thomson stage used to produce low temperatures
The general disadvantage is that the stenosis closes relatively early. therefore,
In the known devices described above, in addition to the gas purification stage present in the compressor anyway,
A plurality of gas scrub stages are provided on the helium passage to the constriction.
It is the object of the present invention to carry out the method described at the outset and the method
The purpose of the present invention is to simplify and more effectively form a suitable device.
This object is achieved according to the invention in a method of the type described at the outset by Joule
Helium supplied to the Thomson stage is extracted from the cold side of the cooling head of the refrigerator
It is solved by. The advantage of this measure is that Jules Thomson stage
The gas flowing to the constriction of the air flows through the cooling head prior to that, and on the way
It is not only pre-cooled, but also specially thoroughly purified. Jules
-Dirt that blocks the narrow part of the Thomson stage, such as hydrogen, methane, oil vapor, etc.
It is frozen in the thermal storage chamber of the displacer of the cooling head
Or retained inside them. A separate purification stage is no longer necessary. frozen
Separate heat exchangers for pre-cooling of helium by one or more cooling stages of the machine
Can be omitted.
Other advantages and details of the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to one illustrated embodiment.
You.
The drawing shows a two-stage refrigerator operated based on the Gifford McMahon principle.
It is shown. This refrigerator comprises a cooling head 1 having casing parts 2 and 3.
ing. In the casing part 2 there is a cylindrical work for both displacement bodies 6,7.
Business rooms 4 and 5 are provided.
The upper displacement body 6 has a drive piston 8 which is attached to this drive piston.
Guiding cylinder 9 closing the working chamber 4 towards the casing part 3
It is provided in the bush 10. The guide bush 10 has holes 11, 12, 13
It has. The hole 11 is open in the working chamber 4 and the working chamber 4
Has helped supply the source. The hole 13 is provided on the outer wall of the guide bush 10
It is open to the lateral hole 14 communicating with the annular groove 15. The other two holes 12 are dashed
As shown, these holes are the pneumatics of the mechanism composed of the displaced bodies 6,7.
It is useful for driving. These various holes are located in a plane different from the drawing plane.
Do not cross each other. This
It is represented by a dashed line or a dashed line.
A control motor 16 is arranged in the casing part 3.
16 operates a control valve 18 via a shaft 17. This control valve 18 is a known type,
It serves to supply high or low pressure working gas to the various holes.
Connections for high-pressure and low-pressure working gases are indicated by the reference numerals 19 and 20. Ke
The dividing plane 21 between the casing parts 2 and 3 is located at the level of the control valve 18. This
Of the upper casing part provided with the control motor 16 and the control valve 18
After removing the minute 3, a shallow cup-shaped chamber 22 exists above the guide bush 10.
Is set to exist. At the height of this chamber 22, the casing part 2
A hole 23 penetrating through the wall of the chamber 22 is provided.
And are connected. The low-pressure connection part 20 contacts the hole 24 provided in the casing part 3.
The hole 24 opens into the annular groove 15 of the guide bush 10.
During operation of the illustrated refrigerator, high-pressure working gas flows into the chamber 22 via the connection 19.
I do. From this chamber, high-pressure working gas is supplied to various holes via a control valve 18.
After the working gas expands in the refrigerator stage, it reaches the holes 13 and 14 and the annular grooves 15 and
It flows out through the low-pressure connection 20.
The refrigerator is further provided with a compressor 31,
The inlet is connected to the low pressure connection 20 via a conduit 32 and the outlet is connected to a high pressure via a conduit 33.
It is in communication with the pressure connection 19.
With this type of refrigerator, the cold end of the second stage 5, 7 of the cooling head 1
In the area of (flange 34), a temperature of approximately 10 ° Kelvin with a power of 1 watt
Degree occurs.
The embodiment shown further comprises a Joule-Thomson stage 35 according to the invention.
. The Joule-Thomson stage has a receptive constriction 36,
6 can be formed as a nozzle, a sintered plate or a capillary. Working gas
In order to supply helium directly from the cooling head 1 to the constriction 36,
The flange 34 of the second cooling stage is provided with a hole 38 in which a tube section 39 is formed.
Inserted and brazed. This tube section 39 is effectively made of special steel,
As a result, the second cooling stage of the cooling head 1 and the Joule-Thomson stage 35 have a thermal resistance.
Are separated from each other.
Helium that has expanded and cooled at the height of the constriction 36 flows into the chamber 41.
. In the embodiment shown, this chamber 41 is filled with a metal net 42. this
The material of the metal net advantageously consists of copper or silver. These materials are less than 10K
Has good thermal conductivity at temperature.
The expanded working gas is supplied from the chamber 41 to the inlet of the low-pressure compressor 46 via the conduit 45.
Is done. Since the low-pressure compressor compresses the working gas to the inlet pressure of the compressor 31, the low-pressure compressor
The outlet of the compressor can be connected to conduit 32 via conduit 47.
The illustrated embodiment is preferably operated at the pressures described below. Ie compression
Machine 31 supplies working gas to a pressure of 10 to 30 bar, preferably approximately 20 bar
Compress. 2 to 8 bar of helium in the cooling stages 4, 6 and 5, 7 of the refrigerator;
It preferably expands to approximately 4 bar. Cold end 34 of the second stage 5, 7 of the refrigerator
Helium already has a temperature of about 6K in the area of
Of this helium (approximately 2%) is supplied to the constriction 36 of the Joule-Thomson stage
Is done. Helium is 20 mbar to 1 bar in the Jules Thompson stage,
It preferably expands to 0.6 bar. This expansion further reduces the temperature, by almost 4
. Causes a temperature drop to 2K. Expanded and cooled helium is a metallic net.
Flow through the chamber 41 provided with the Helium is passed from this chamber 41 via conduit 45
It is supplied to a low pressure compressor 46, which converts helium into a circulation circuit of the refrigerator.
Compress to low pressure.
During operation of the illustrated embodiment, an output of 10 milliwatts
Approximately 4.5 K having a temperature of 4.5 K is produced. The temperature of this order is, for example,
-Superconducting coils, microwave systems, switches or
-SQUID magnetometer
Required for liquefaction of helium at or when using liquid helium.
The present invention is applicable to single-stage and multi-stage dipole McMahon refrigerators or similar.
It is possible in a refrigerator. Also equipped with an old-fashioned refrigerator operated by a heat storage type heat exchanger
Can be obtained. The point is that the working gas is supplied to the constriction of the Joule-Thomson stage
Before flowing through the cooling stage or stages.
