Abstract

(57)【要約】 【課題】電流の光への変換効率、安全性及び耐衝撃性が
いずれも高く、構造を複雑とすることなく、コスト的に
も有利な照明手段を備える歯科用ハンドピースを提供す
る。 【解決手段】ハンドピース１０の首部１２における頭部
１１側下方に、可視光ＬＥＤ２０を内蔵し、また、首部
１２の先方側下方にＬＥＤ２０の光が歯科治療工具１の
先端付近を指向して口腔内の治療箇所を照らすよう所要
の投光窓２１を設ける。

Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【発明が属する技術分野】本発明は歯科用ハンドピー
ス、特に口腔内の治療箇所を照らすための照明手段を備
える歯科用ハンドピースに関する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】歯科用ハンドピースにおける口腔内の治
療箇所を照らすための照明手段としては、図２に示すよ
うに、従来、専ら高輝ハロゲンランプ３０が採用されて
おり、当該ハロゲンランプ３０は、ハンドピース１０の
タービンヘッド１０’における頭部１１又は首部１２か
ら比較的遠いハンドピース１０のカップリング１０”等
に内蔵され、当該ハロゲンランプ３０から治療箇所を直
接照らし得るハンドピースの頭部１１又は首部１２に設
けた投光用の窓３１迄、ロッドファイバーやグラスファ
イバー３２を付設して光路を規定しているのが現況であ
る。
【０００３】
【考案が解決しようとする課題】しかしながら、照明手
段としてハロンゲンランプ３０を用いた場合、次のよう
な欠点があった。
【０００４】（イ）フィラメントに電流を通して発光さ
せるものであるため、電流が光のみならず熱にも多分に
変換し、従って、電流の光への変換効率が低く、その
分、消費電力も高くなり、また、発熱したフィラメント
によって安全性が阻害される。
【０００５】（ロ）歯科用ハンドピース内のマイクロモ
ーターやアングルハンドピース等の高速回転機構の回転
振動や治療箇所の切削振動の衝撃がフィラメントに伝わ
り、フィラメントが断線する場合があり、耐衝撃性が低
く、寿命が短い。
【０００６】（ハ）ハロゲンランプの小型化に限界があ
るため、既述したように、ハロゲンランプを治療箇所を
直接照らし得るハンドピースの頭部や首部に設置でき
ず、ロッドファイバーやグラスファイバーを別途付設す
る必要があり、構造が複雑となり、コストも高くなるば
かりか、ハロゲンランプと光伝達用ファイバー間では、
物理的に約２０％以上の光の減衰が生じる。
【０００７】（ニ）オートクレーブ減菌時の耐蒸気に対
し、ハロゲンランプ及び光伝達用ファイバーがいずれも
耐久性に欠ける等により、交換や修理の必要性が生じ、
これによってもコスト高となる。
【０００８】本発明は、以上のような問題点に鑑みてな
されたものであり、その目的は、電流の光への変換効
率、安全性及び耐衝撃性等がいずれも高く、オートクレ
ーブ減菌時の耐蒸気性をも具備して耐久性が良好な照明
手段を備える歯科用ハンドピースを提供することにあ
る。
【０００９】本発明の別の目的は、構造を複雑とするこ
となく、コスト的にも有利な、照明手段を備える歯科用
ハンドピースを提供することにある。
【００１０】
【課題を解決するための手段】本発明に係る歯科用ハン
ドピースは、口腔内の治療箇所を照らすための照明手段
として光半導体素子を備えることを特徴とする。
【００１１】ここで、「光半導体素子」とは、実質的に
発光ダイオード（以下、「ＬＥＤ」という。）、特に可
視光ＬＥＤである。
【００１２】従って、本ハンドピースでは、次のような
ＬＥＤの（特にハロンゲンランプに対する）利点を享受
することができる。
【００１３】（イ）電流をフィラメントを介することな
く直接光に変換するものであるため、電流の光への変換
効率が高く、その分、消費電力を低くすることができ
（通常、電圧（１．５〜３Ｖ）及び電流（３〜５０ｍ
Ａ）程度で使用可能）、また、発熱もほとんどなく安全
性が高い。
【００１４】（ロ）フィラメントを用いないため、耐衝
撃性が高く、寿命が長い（１０万時間以上）。
【００１５】（ハ）非常に小型のものもあるため、歯科
用ハンドピース等の頭部や首部に直接設置でき、従っ
て、高価なロッドファイバーやグラスファイバーを必要
とせず、その分、構造が簡易となり、コストも安くなる
他、光の減衰もほとんどない。
【００１６】（ニ）オートクレーブ減菌時の耐蒸気に対
し、良好な耐久性を発揮し、交換や修理の必要性が生じ
ない。

【実施例】以下、本発明の実施例を添付図面に基づいて
説明する。なお、図２と概ね共通する部分は同じ参照番
号を付す。
【００１８】図１は、本発明に係る歯科用ハンドピース
１０を示す斜視図であり、ハンドピース１０は、タービ
ンヘッド１０’と、カップリング１０”とを備え、ター
ビンヘッド１０’は、着脱自在な歯科治療工具１が取り
付けられる頭部１１と、頭部１１から後方へ延在する首
部１２と、首部１２に対し若干角度付けされ、歯科医師
が当該ハンドピース１０を把手する把手部１３とに区分
される。一方、カップリング１０”は、図示しない歯科
ユニットに連絡する歯科用ホースと、タービンヘッド１
０’との間に介在されて、各種流体通路や電気系統のジ
ョイント部分として機能する。
【００１９】本実施例では、照明手段としての光半導体
素子である可視光ＬＥＤ２０を、ハンドピース首部１２
における頭部１１側下方に内蔵し、また、首部１２の先
方側下方には、ＬＥＤ２０の光が歯科治療工具１の先端
付近を指向して口腔内の治療箇所を照らすよう所要の投
光窓２１を設けた。更に、歯科用ホース内のリード線
（図示せず）を介してＬＥＤ２０を外部の電源と電気的
に連通させる電流通路を、タービンヘッド１０’及びカ
ップリング１０”の各内部に設けたリード線２２，２
２’と、タービンヘッド１０’−カップリング１０”間
の接点２３，２３’によって規定し、ＬＥＤ２０が低電
圧（１．５〜３Ｖ）及び低電流（３〜５０ｍＡ）にて使
用されるようにした。

【発明の効果】以上述べたように、本発明に係る歯科用
ハンドピースでは、口腔内の治療箇所を照らすための照
明手段として光半導体素子を備えるため、従来のハロゲ
ンランプを用いた場合に比べ、電流の光への変換効率、
安全性及び耐衝撃性がいずれも高く、従って、消費電力
を低くすることができ、また、オートクレーブ減菌時の
耐蒸気性を含み良好な耐久性を発揮し、寿命も長くな
る。更に、歯科用ハンドピース等の頭部や首部に直接設
置でき、従って、高価なロッドファイバーやグラスファ
イバーを必要とせず、その分、構造が簡易となり、コス
トも安くなる。

  1. 【請求項１】 口腔内の治療箇所を照らすための照明手
    段として光半導体素子を備えることを特徴とする歯科用
    ハンドピース。
  2. 【請求項２】 前記光半導体素子を前記歯科用ハンドピ
    ースの頭部又は首部に設けた請求項１に記載の歯科用ハ
    ンドピース。
