Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a newspaper blank form causing no plate stain even if using fresh water as wetting water and excellent in printability by coating a substrate paper with a specific water-soluble cationic polymer. SOLUTION: This newspaper blank form for lithographic offset printing is obtained by coating both surfaces of a substrate paper for newspaper with a total of 0.1-3.0 (pref. 0.6-2.5) g/m<2> , on a solid basis, of a water-solub1e cationic polymer >=0.1wt.% in nitrogen content such as cation-modified starch.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, newsprint printing has often been done by letterpress rotary printing, but in recent years it has shown good ink receptivity, little strikethrough, easy plate making and fast copying speed. It can be made as a plate and is easy to reprint.
Because there is no expansion and contraction during printing and it is suitable for multicolor printing,
Lithographic offset rotary printing has become mainstream.

This lithographic offset printing is characterized in that a dampening liquid is used at the time of printing. Conventionally, as the dampening liquid, stains on the non-image areas of the printing plate due to ink, that is, "ground stain"
Alternatively, an acidic or alkaline etching solution has been used in order to prevent a plate stain trouble called "floating stain".
The etchant is very effective in preventing plate stains such as background stains, but it is easy to react with ink to form aggregates.
It is being examined whether tap water or other fresh water can be used as the dampening solution because the load on the environment of the drainage increases and the cost increases. However, if plain water is used as the dampening solution using ordinary newsprint, plate stains easily occur, and if this occurs, stop the printing machine and wash the plate or blanket,
When the plate is extremely dirty, it is necessary to replace the plate, which is a fatal problem in the case of newspaper printing in which time is up.
Moreover, in the case of newspaper printing, the number of copies continuously printed at one time with the same plate is considerably larger than that in printing in other fields, so that a very high level of suitability for plate stain resistance is required.

As a proposal for improving the printability of lithographic offset newsprint, JP-A-1-68596 using a specific sizing agent and a water-soluble aluminum salt, a water-soluble polymer compound and a styrene-butadiene copolymer latex are used. Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 5-263394, which contains an organic fluoro compound, and Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 6-57688, which contains an organic fluoro compound.
There is JP-A-6-179728 for coating a coating composition comprising a specific copolymerized latex. However, these proposals have excellent size effect, whiteness in multicolor offset rotary printing, opacity, surface strength, printing gloss, ink setting, ink replenishment improving effect, and dampening solution makes paper sticky. This is intended to prevent the effect, and does not improve the plate stain such as background stain and floating stain.

Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail. Conventionally, in the printing of newsprint, an acidic or alkaline etchant is usually used as described above in order to prevent plate stains. As a result of various studies on the above problems, the inventors of the present invention applied fresh water during lithographic offset printing by applying a water-soluble cationic polymer having a nitrogen content of 0.1% by weight or more on the surface of the base paper. It was found that plate stains such as background stains and floating stains hardly occur even when printing a large number of copies. why,
When the water-soluble cationic polymer of the present invention is applied,
Although it is not clear whether or not plate stains will occur, the substances that elute from the newspaper and react with the non-image areas of the printing plate to cause plate stains react with the water-soluble cationic polymer, and It is considered that the effect of the present invention is exhibited in order to prevent the reaction with the line portion.

The test method is as follows. "Plate smear test method" A PS plate is subjected to non-imaging, and a paper sample cut into 3 cm squares is placed on the plate. Fifteen drops of hot water at 80 to 90 ° C. are evenly dropped from above the paper sample with a syringe, dried at room temperature, and after drying, the paper sample is removed from the plate.
This plate is set in a one-color lithographic offset printing machine, and the fountain solution and paper are not supplied first, and only the lithographic offset rotary newspaper printing red ink is once supplied to the plate. Then, using tap water as dampening water and fine paper as paper, 30 to 50
Print on a piece of fine paper. The degree of ink adhesion at the place where the paper sample of the finally printed high-quality paper was placed was visually evaluated, and ranked in 5 stages of 5 to 1 as follows. 5: Ink is not attached at all. 4: Ink adhered around 25% of the paper sample area. 3: The ink adheres to about 50% of the paper sample area. 2: About 75% of the area of the paper sample with ink. 1: Ink adhered over the entire surface. In addition, it was investigated and confirmed that the visual evaluation and the case of actual color newspaper printing using fresh water as the dampening solution corresponded as follows. No. 5 does not stain the plate even after continuous printing of 500,000 copies. In No. 4, the plate stain starts to occur in continuous printing of 400,000 to 500,000 copies. In No. 3, plate stains start to occur in continuous printing of 200,000 to 300,000 copies. In No. 2, plate stains start to occur in continuous printing of 50,000 to 100,000 copies. For No. 1, continuous printing of about 20,000 copies starts to cause plate stains. If this evaluation is 4 or more, there is no practical problem.

EFFECT OF THE INVENTION As shown in Table 1, a dampening aqueous solution was prepared by applying a water-soluble cationic polymer having a nitrogen content of 0.1% by weight or more to the surface of a base paper and drying the newsprint. Even if a large number of lithographic offset rotary printings were performed using fresh water, a newsprint with excellent printability without plate stains such as background stains and floating stains became possible.
