従来技術とその問題点 一般の密閉形蓄電池に於いては、充電終期に正極から発
生する酸素ガスを負極活物質で化学的にあるいは電気化
学的に反応させて吸収し密閉化を可能としている。

金属円筒缶を用いた蓄電池に於いてはガス発生に伴う電
池内圧を10〜20気圧まで高めて設計できる。しかしプラ
スチック電槽を用いた角形電池に於いては、電槽が膨れ
易いために内圧を低く設計せねばならない。一般にこの
設計圧力は、1気圧以下で0.5気圧前後が多い。排気弁
は、酸素ガス吸収が追いつかずに排気弁作動の設計圧力
に達した場合、排気弁が作動しガスを外部に排出して電
槽の膨れるのを防いでいる。又、排気弁はガス排出だけ
ではなく、外部から蓄電池内に空気が入るのを防ぐ役割
もしている。このため排気弁の構造あるいは形状につい
て、いろいろな検討がなされている。従来の排気弁は作
動圧のバラツキが大きく、電槽膨れが生じたり、あるい
は外部からの電池内への空気の侵入により電池寿命を短
くする等の欠点があった。

考案の目的 本考案は上記従来の問題点に鑑みなされたものであり、
排気弁作動圧のバラツキが小さく、安定して作動するこ
とにより、電池電槽の膨れのない且つ長寿命の密閉形蓄
電池を提供することを目的とするものである。

本考案に用いる排気弁1は、ネオプレンゴムあるいはイ
ソプレンゴムなどゴム状弾性体からなり、上面中央部が
くぼんでおり、その断面は第1図に示した如くM状であ
る。この排気弁1を蓄電池の排気孔部3に取付ける。
尚、排気孔部3の外径と排気弁1の筒状部の内径は同一
寸法である。次に押え板2にて排気孔部3の上端面に排
気弁1を押える。

本考案の密閉形蓄電池と従来の上部が平板状である排気
弁(第2図)を用いた従来の密閉形蓄電池を各々10セル
試作し、ゴム弁の作動圧を測定した。電池試作直後及び
温度60℃で20日間保存した後について、内圧上昇による
排気弁が作動する開弁圧及びその後の平衡圧を測定し
た。尚、本考案に用いた排気弁も従来の排気弁も共にそ
の材質は同じネオプレンゴムであり、肉厚及び寸法同一
である。

本考案に用いた排気弁が優れているのは、内圧上昇によ

した値となるためである。
