Abstract

(57)【要約】 【目的】 本発明は、コンピュ−タシステムの永久的な
蓄積媒体に蓄積されているファイルが再生の可能性なし
に永久的に消去されるファイル消去方法を得ることを目
的とする。 【構成】 ハードディスク15等の永久的な蓄積媒体中の
消去用の蓄積ファイル20を選択し、ランダムキ−21を使
用して蓄積ファイル20を暗号化し、ファイルへのファイ
ル辞書ポインタを消去する14ステップを有することを特
徴とする。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明はコンピュ−タシステム、
特に権限のない人物に読取り可能なファイルとしてデ−
タの再生の可能性を除去するコンピュ−タシステムの永
久的な蓄積媒体に蓄積されているファイルの除去（消
去）方法に関する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術】永久的な蓄積空間（例えばハ−ドディス
ク）からのファイルの典型的な消去方法はファイルを有
する情報ブロックを指すファイル辞書に含まれるポイン
タを消去する。情報の実際の内容は接触されないで残さ
れる。ユーティリティプログラムを使用して蓄積空間の
各ブロックの内容は感度を有する情報については走査さ
れることができる。
【０００３】特に蓄積空間は他の使用に自由に利用でき
るが、ファイルのデ−タ内容は蓄積空間が実際に他のフ
ァイル蓄積で使用されるまで接触されないままである。
このことは使用者がデ−タが消去されたものと考えるが
技術を有する侵入者がこれらの消去ファイルを走査する
ために強力なユーティリティ装置を使用することができ
るので非常に危険である。
【０００４】ファイル消去の別の通常の方法は使用者が
除去した情報の残留磁気を除くため全てのデ−タファイ
ルにわたって０および１の重ね書きを必要とする。この
方法は蓄積情報が再生されないことを確実にするために
システムが０および１を多く書込まなければいけないの
で低速である。
【０００５】
【発明が解決しようとする課題】それ故本発明の目的
は、永久蓄積媒体に蓄積されているファイルを消去する
方法を提供することである。さらに本発明の目的はファ
イルが再生の可能性なしに永久的に消去されるファイル
消去方法を与えることである。本発明の目的はまた元来
の使用者または使用者の権限を有する人以外の人に再生
を許容しない方法でファイルが消去され、権限を有する
人には消去ファイルの再生を許容するファイル消去方法
を提供することである。
【０００６】
【課題を解決するための手段】前述および他の目的、特
徴を提供するために、本発明はファイルを消去するとき
暗号化アルゴリズムが蓄積ファイルのデ−タを暗号化す
ることに使用される方法を提供する。本発明の出願人に
より製造された秘密デ−タネットワ−クプロトコル（Ｓ
ＤＮＰ）プロセッサに使用されているタイプＩまたはタ
イプＩＩの暗号化アルゴリズムが通常のファイル消去方
法に関して説明された欠点を除去するためにファイル消
去期間中に使用される。ＳＤＮＰプロセッサはＮＳＡが
開発した暗号化アルゴリズムの選択された１つが設けら
れている集積回路チップを含む。タイプＩアルゴリズム
は分類された情報を含むファイルの暗号化を許容しファ
イルに含まれるデ−タの露出の危険性なく暗号化された
ファイルが他に移動されることを可能にする暗号化レベ
ルを有する。タイプＩＩアルゴリズムはタイプＩアルゴ
リズムと類似しているが分類されていないが感度の高い
デ−タに対して開発されている。
【０００７】本発明によると使用者が蓄積ファイルの消
去を要求するときファイルは読取り不可能であるように
暗号化される。消去はファイルの内容が消去後他の使用
者に検索されないように暗号化アルゴリズムを使用して
行われる。１方向と２方向の両者のファイル消去が使用
される。１方向の消去モ−ドでは使用者がデ−タの“未
消去”を期待しない場合に１方向の暗号化アルゴリズム
がファイルの秘密消去速度を増加するのに使用される。
２方向消去モ−ドでは使用者は蓄積空間が他のソフトウ
ェアプログラムにより使用される前にこの動作が行われ
れば、消去ファイルが蓄積される暗号化ファイルまたは
ディスク蓄積領域を解読することによりファイルを未消
去にすることができる。
【０００８】本発明の秘密消去方法が使用されるとき、
消去ファイルから情報を再生するユーティリティプログ
ラムはない。侵入者に対しては蓄積空間はランダムビッ
トのに見えるように暗号化される。それ故検索される情
報も、暗号化され消去されたファイルからの得られる情
報もない。
【０００９】本発明は使用者が安全に特定のファイルの
内容を消去したいときファイルが他人に読取り不可能で
あるようにコンピュ−タシステムのシステム動作の存在
するファイル消去機能が強化する。消去デ−タファイル
が通常のファイル消去方法に存在する脆弱さを除去され
るとき、暗号化アルゴリズムを使用する本発明のファイ
ル消去方式が使用される。従って本発明は使用者が永久
的な蓄積空間（例えばフロッピ−ディスクのハ−ド）か
らファイルを消去することとファイルを総合的に他人に
より読取り不可能にする方法を許容する。
【００１０】本発明はまた、権限のない人によるファイ
ルのアクセスを阻止するコンピュ−タシステムの永久的
な蓄積媒体に蓄積されたファイルの処理方法を含む。方
法は蓄積ファイルの選択、ランダムキ−を使用する蓄積
ファイルの暗号化、デ−タファイルへのファイル辞書ポ
インタの消去を有する。ランダムキ−は外部的に蓄積さ
れ、コンピュ−タシステムの権限のある使用者に所有さ
れる。デ−タの回復のためにその方法はデ−タファイル
へのファイル辞書ポインタを再生し、蓄積ファイルに含
まれるデ−タへのアクセスを許容するためファイルを解
読するのに使用される外部に蓄積する同一のランダムキ
−を用いて暗号化した蓄積ファイルを解読する。本発明
の種々の特徴および利点は添付図面を伴う詳細な説明を
参照して容易に理解されるであろう。
【００１１】
【実施例】図１は、コンピュ−タシステム16の蓄積媒体
15に蓄積されるファイル20を秘密に永久に消去する本発
明の原理による秘密ファイル消去方法10を示している。
コンピュ−タシステム16は蓄積媒体15として使用される
ハ−ドディスクを含み、コンピュ−タシステム16に入力
を与えるためのキ−ボ−ドまたはマウス装置（図示せ
ず）を有する。コンピュ−タシステム16は機能の１つで
ある通常の消去ファイル指令を含む動作システムを含
む。消去ファイル指令は蓄積媒体15に蓄積されるファイ
ル20の消去に使用される。
【００１２】本発明の原理によると、コンピュ−タシス
テム16の使用者が蓄積媒体15に蓄積されるファイル20を
消去することを所望すると、使用者はコンピュ−タスク
リ−ン（図示せず）上のメニュ−から選択するかまたは
キ−ボ−ドの消去ファイル指令シ−ケンスをタイプする
ことにより消去ファイル指令11を入力する。ＲＯＭに蓄
積されるかコンピュ−タシステム10で作動する適用プロ
グラムとしての本発明の原理によるファ−ムウェア処理
ル−チンは、決定ブロック12で示されているように蓄積
ファイル20の秘密消去が望ましいならば消去ファイル指
令を受けて、使用者にディスプレイスクリ−ン17で表示
する。秘密ファイル消去が好ましくないと本発明の方法
10は通常の消去ファイル処理14に進行する。この通常の
消去ファイルは発明の背景の部分で説明された典型的な
ファイル消去処理であり、ファイル20を含む情報ブロッ
クを指示する蓄積媒体15のファイル辞書に含まれるポイ
ンタが消去される。この状態ではファイル20の情報の実
際の内容は接触されないままである。
【００１３】しかし、ファイル20の秘密消去が好ましい
と暗号化アルゴリズム13が使用され内容が消去されるフ
ァイル20を暗号化する。暗号化アルゴリズム13は本発明
の出願人により開発された秘密デ−タネットワ−クプロ
トコルプロセッサで使用されるタイプＩ、タイプＩＩア
ルゴリズムでよい。このアルゴリズムは米国国家安全保
証局（ＮＳＡ）から得た集積回路チップに設けられてい
る。チップは本発明の出願人により製造された秘密デ−
タネットワ−クプロトコ−ル（ＳＤＮＰ）に設けられて
おり、ファイル20の暗号化の目的に使用される。ファイ
ル20が暗号化アルゴリズム13により暗号化されると、方
法は辞書ポインタを削除する通常の削除処理段14に着手
する。
【００１４】本発明の方法10で使用される暗号化アルゴ
リズムの特性を以下説明する。１方向と２方向の両者の
ファイル消去モ−ド17,18 は暗号化アルゴリズム13を使
用して用いられる。１方向消去モ−ド17では使用者はデ
−タを“消去しない”ことを期待しておらず１方向暗号
化アルゴリズムはファイル20の秘密消去の速度を加速す
ることに使用される。１方向モ−ド17ではファイル20の
デ−タはランダム外部キ−21を使用して暗号化され、そ
の後キ−21は自動的に破壊19され、デ−タの再生に使用
されることはできない。従ってキ−21なしでデ−タは解
読不可能であり、従って他人が読取ることは可能ではな
い。
【００１５】２方向モ−ド18ではファイル20のデ−タは
ランダムキ−21を使用して暗号化されるがキ−21は破壊
19されず使用者によりデ−タ再生に使用される。キ−21
はコンピュ−タシステム16に対して外部の秘密位置で使
用者により蓄積されるか維持される。２方向消去モ−ド
18では蓄積空間が他のソフトウェアプログラムにより使
用される前にこの動作が行われる限り、使用者は辞書ポ
インタ23を再生することによって、暗号化ファイル20ま
たは消去ファイル20が蓄積されるディスク蓄積領域の暗
号解読24によりファイル20を消去しないようにする。従
ってデ−タは解読されることができず、キ−21なしでは
他人に読取りが不可能である。本発明の秘密ファイル消
去方法10が使用されると、消去ファイル20から情報を再
生する利用プログラムは存在しない。侵入者に対しては
蓄積空間はランダムビットのように暗号化される。それ
故暗号化した消去ファイル20から再生され、得られる情
報はない。
【００１６】要約すると、本発明の方法10は権限のない
人によるファイルのアクセスを防止するコンピュ−タシ
ステム16の永久的な蓄積媒体15に蓄積されるファイル20
を処理することを含む。その方法は蓄積ファイル20を選
択し消去指令11を入力し、ランダムキ−21を使用して蓄
積ファイル20を暗号化し、暗号化アルゴリズム13でファ
イル20を動作し、ファイル20へのファイル辞書ポインタ
23を消去14することを含む。ファイル14を再生するため
に、方法10はファイル20へのファイル辞書ポインタ23を
再生し蓄積ファイル20に含まれるデ−タのアクセスを許
容するためランダムキ−21を使用して暗号化された蓄積
ファイル20を解読する。
【００１７】従って本発明は使用者が永久的な蓄積空間
からファイル20を消去し、他人に読取りが総合的に不可
能なファイルにする方法を許容する。消去はファイル20
の内容が消去後に再生されないように暗号化アルゴリズ
ムを使用することにより行われる。このことはファイル
辞書情報のみが消去されるかまたはファイル20へのポイ
ンタが消去される発明の背景で説明した従来のファイル
消去方法と異なっている。この通常の方法では蓄積空間
は他の使用のために自由にされ、ファイルのデ−タ内容
は蓄積空間が実際に別のファイルの蓄積に使用されるま
で接触されない。このことは使用者がデ−タが消去され
たものと考え技術を有する侵入者がこれらの消去ファイ
ルを走査する強力なユ−ティリティ装置を使用できるの
で本来的に危険である。ファイル20を消去するとき暗号
化アルゴリズムを使用する本発明のファイル消去方法を
使用することによりこの脆さを減少する。
【００１８】以上権限のない人により読取り可能なファ
イルとしてのデ−タの再生の可能性を減少するコンピュ
−タシステムの永久的な蓄積媒体に蓄積されるファイル
の新しく改良された削除（消去）方法を説明した。前述
の実施例は本発明の原理の応用を示す多くの特別な実施
例の例示にすぎないことが明白である。多数の他の装置
が本発明の技術的範囲内から逸脱することなく当業者に
より容易に発明される。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 コンピュ−タシステムの永久的な蓄積媒
    体に蓄積されているファイルの消去方法において、 消去用の蓄積ファイルを選択し、 ランダムキ−を使用して蓄積ファイルを暗号化し、 ファイルへのファイル辞書ポインタを消去するステップ
    を有することを特徴とするファイルの消去方法。
  2. 【請求項２】 ランダムキ−を使用して蓄積ファイルを
    暗号化した後ランダムキ−を破壊するステップを有する
    ことを特徴とする請求項１記載の方法。
  3. 【請求項３】 暗号化ファイルの蓄積位置の重ね書きの
    前の時間において、ファイルへのファイル辞書ポインタ
    を再生し、 ランダムキ−を使用して蓄積ファイルへのアクセスを許
    容するために暗号化した蓄積ファイルを解読するステッ
    プを有することを特徴とする請求項１記載の方法。
