Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a packing material made of natural substance, capable of natural corruption, easy to dispose by burning, light-weight, properly strong and easy to process, by a method wherein grains are heated to foam, coated with binder and molded by pressing. CONSTITUTION:Corn 3 is put through a hopper 2 into heating container 1, which is then sealed with a lid 4, and heated to foam. The foamed corn grains 5 are coated with binder. As the binder, viscouse may be used, for example. Next, the foamed and binder-coated corn grains 7 are charged into a die 6, covered with a lid 8, and applied with pressure. Then the corn grains 7 are binded into a mold 9. The mold 9 is then dried so that its inside can be binded fully. In this instance, it is also possible that at the time when the corn grains are pressed and molded, the die 6 is vacuum inside, so that drying work can be saved. After that, the mold 9 is cut by a proper length and used to fill a gap as a shock absorbing and packing material in packing various kinds of goods.

Examples of the grains used in the present invention include corn, barley, wheat, oats, fluff, rice, knees, pimples, beans and the like, and corn is used for the purpose desired in the present invention. Is preferable (hereinafter, it will be explained using corn). The corn fruit is rich in starch and is used as food or feed for livestock and is cultivated all over the world. It is easily available and edible. Therefore, safety as a packaging material can be secured. In the heating container,
When corn is charged, sealed and heated for a certain period of time, and then opened to the atmosphere, the corn explodes and expands to become foamed. FIG. 1 (A) shows an example of the operation, in which the corn 3 is introduced from the hopper 2 into the heating container 1,
It is sealed with a lid 4, heated and foamed. As the foamed corn, popcorn obtained by roasting and puffing corn can be used. A binder is applied to the foamed corn grains 5. As a binder,
For example, there is viscose. Viscose is a solution of sodium cellulose xanthate dissolved in water or sodium hydroxide solution.
The binder can be applied by spraying and adhering the binder, spraying it, or immersing it in a binder solution. The foamed corn coated with the binder is filled in, for example, a mold and pressure is applied to form a molded product having an appropriate size. FIGS. 1 (B) and 1 (C) show an example of such an operation and a molded product obtained by such an operation. A mold 6 is filled with foamed corn 7 coated with a binder, a lid 8 is placed, pressure is applied, and foaming is performed. The corn is collected to form a molding 9. The molded product 9 may be dried so as to be sufficiently bonded to the inside thereof. At the time of the pressure molding, the drying operation may be omitted, for example, by making the inside of the mold 6 a vacuum. The molded product 9 can be used as a buffer packaging material by cutting it into an appropriate size and filling the voids when packaging various products. Since the packaging material is made of natural material, it can be returned to soil, can collapse naturally, is easy to waste and incinerate, is safe and light, has appropriate mechanical strength, and can be processed as packaging material such as cutting. It's easy.
