Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the wrinkles of transfer paper, roller driving power, etc., and to assure the durability of a practicable level by disposing elastic members apart a spacing at two points at axial ends and forming a sponge layer in a cavity part enclosed by the elastic members, a tube and an arbor. CONSTITUTION:This press roller 10 is constituted by adhering elastic members 11 consisting of silicone rubber, etc., to the outer periphery at both ends of the arbor 3 and adhering the outer layer tube 12 to the outer periphery thereof. The sponge layer 13 is formed in the cavity part enclosed by the arbor 3, the elastic members 11 and the outer layer tube 12. An air hole 14 is a release hole for air in the case of expansion of the sponge layer 13 after assembly of other parts. Then, high adhesive force is obtd. at the contact surfaces 15 between the outer layer tube 12 and the elastic members 11 and the durability performance is improved. The pressurizing force under which a nip width is obtainable increases by as much as the elastic members 11 are provided but there is no change in the nip pressure under the sponge layer 13 and, therefore, the nip pressure exactly equal to the nip pressure obtainable heretofore is obtd. if the width l of the sponge layer 13 is set larger than the transfer paper width of the max. at which the paper can be passed in the machine.

2. Description of the Related Art FIG. 3 is a sectional view showing a heat fixing type fixing device. In FIG. 3, 1 is a fixing roller and 2 is a pressure roller. Conventionally, this type of pressure roller 2 is mainly composed of a cored bar on which an elastic layer such as silicon rubber is formed, or a thin fluororesin outer layer formed on the cored layer in a tubular shape. The latter is becoming the mainstream in terms of good releasability and durability. On the other hand, in order to improve durability, it is necessary to increase the silicone rubber hardness to increase the adhesive strength with the resin layer, and the increased rubber hardness increases the nip pressure,
Problems such as wrinkles on the transfer paper and an increase in driving force have occurred.

FIG. 1 is a side sectional view showing a first embodiment of a pressure roller according to the present invention. Pressure roller 10 of this embodiment
Is an elastic member 11 such as silicon rubber on the outer circumference of both ends of the core metal 3.
And the outer tube 12 is adhered to the outer periphery thereof. Then, the sponge layer 13 is formed in the cavity surrounded by the core metal 3, the elastic member 11, and the outer layer tube 12. Incidentally. 1 in the figure
Reference numeral 4 is an air hole provided in the core metal 3. This air hole 14
When the sponge layer 13 is foamed after assembling other parts, it is a niger hole for air, and the outer layer tube 1 is formed by the gas during foaming.
This is to prevent the problem that the 2 swells or breaks.

According to this structure, a stronger adhesive force is obtained at the contact surface 15 between the outer layer tube 12 and the elastic member 11, and durability performance is improved, as compared with the pressure roller 2 having the structure shown in FIG.
The pressing force to obtain the nip width is increased by the amount of the elastic member 11 provided, but since the nip pressure under the sponge layer 13 does not change, the width l of the sponge layer 13 is set to the maximum size that can be passed by the machine. If the width is larger than the width of the transfer paper, it can be completely the same as the conventional one.

In this embodiment, the sponge layer 13 is adhered and fixed to any one or a plurality of positions of the core metal 3, the inner surface of the outer tube 12, and the elastic member 11.
Alternatively, it may be configured such that they are not adhesively fixed at all. When the outer layer tube 12 and the sponge layer 13 are adhered to each other at the contact surface 15, the outer layer of the sponge layer 13 has a different outer diameter, so that the adhesive layer becomes non-uniform, the surface hardness varies, and the outer layer tube 12 wrinkles. However, this can be prevented.

FIG. 2 is a side sectional view showing a second embodiment of the pressure roller according to the present invention. Pressure roller 20 of this embodiment
The sponge layer 21 is formed in advance as indicated by the two-dot chain line outline in the figure, and by putting it in the outer layer tube 12, the surface hardness is gradually changed from the end to the center. It was done. With this configuration, it is possible to very easily manufacture a roller having a claw (crown) shape or a drum (reverse crown) shape, which has been very difficult to manufacture with a conventional rubber roller.

As described above, the pressure roller according to the first aspect of the present invention is a pressure roller in which an outer layer tube made of fluororesin or the like is supported coaxially with a core metal by an elastic member. Since the sponge layer is formed in the cavity surrounded by the elastic member, the tube, and the core metal, the sponge roller can be used as a sponge roller, and the sponge roller has an advantage of extremely low pressure. It is possible to obtain a nip width due to, the wrinkles of the transfer paper, the roller driving force, etc. can be reduced, and it is possible to secure the durability of a practical level. Further, since the sponge layer portion can be manufactured by molding, it has an effect of being extremely rich in mass productivity and can be finished at low cost.

Further, in the pressure roller of the second aspect, the outer diameter of the sponge layer before the outer tube is attached to the core metal is such that both end sides have a larger diameter than the central side, so that it is easy to form a staggered shape. It becomes possible to manufacture a roller having a shape that has been difficult in the past, and there is an effect that it is unnecessary to use a roller that has been cut in a staggered manner on the fixing roller side.
