A configuration example of a conventional liquid crystal display device will be described below. FIG. 3 is a plan view of the liquid crystal display device in which the dummy electrodes are provided, and FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken along line BB of FIG.
As shown in FIG. 3, the shape in manufacturing the liquid crystal display device is such that the dummy electrode 10 is formed around the upper substrate and the lower substrate.
An upper substrate 40 and a lower substrate 50, which are liquid crystal display devices for displaying an image, are formed inside the electrodes. In FIG. 3, since it is difficult to read the vertical relationship because the upper substrate and the lower substrate are superposed, a further explanation will be given using the sectional view 4.
As shown in FIG. 4, an electrode portion is formed on the lower substrate 50, and the electrode portion includes the effective electrode portion 21 and the dummy electrode portion 10.
(Not visible in FIG. 4), and an alignment film 60 is formed on the surface of the electrode portion.
On the other hand, an electrode portion composed of the effective electrode portion 20 and the dummy electrode portion 10 is also formed on the upper substrate 40, and an alignment film is formed on the electrode portion surface. The upper substrate 40 and the lower substrate 50 are stacked via a spacer so that the electrode portions of the upper substrate 40 and the lower substrate 50 face each other. Furthermore, in the peripheral area,
The seal portion 30 and the upper and lower substrates 40 and 50 form a substantially sealed structure, and the liquid crystal display device having the structure shown in FIG. 4 is obtained. 4, in order to leave a portion for displaying an image except for the dummy electrode portion, after cutting from a broken line portion designating a range of C and D, an inside surrounded by the seal portion 30 and the upper and lower substrates. Inject liquid crystal into.

However, C and D in FIG. 4 which are unnecessary portions for displaying images on the upper and lower substrates.
When the portion other than the range is cut off, there is an electrode up to the cut end surfaces of the upper and lower substrates, so that the adhering conductive dust or the adjacent electrode is in a short state due to the cause of dew condensation, It had a bad influence on the effective electrode.

In order to solve the above problems, the present invention seals the peripheral portions of the upper and lower substrates, each of which has an electrode pattern made of a transparent electrode film on its inner surface, with a sealant. In the liquid crystal display device including the effective electrode portion necessary for forming a liquid crystal display device and further forming a display image and the dummy electrode portion not related to the formation of the display image, the effective electrode Section and the dummy electrode section are separated by the seal section. Further, since the electrostatic spark is more likely to occur as the distance between adjacent electrodes is narrower, a protrusion is provided on at least one side of the facing surface in the separating portion, and the protrusion is narrower than the distance between pixels of the effective electrode portion. The electrostatic spark is consciously generated at the seal portion by forming the portion. It should be noted that the shape of the protrusion is such that it is easy to discharge.

That is, the liquid crystal display device according to the present invention prevents the alignment defect due to the electrostatic spark and the short at the end faces of the upper and lower substrates and prevents the dummy electrodes from being printed in the printing area of the sealant. By separating the portion and the effective electrode portion and providing the protruding portion on the electrode opposed to each other by the separating portion, it is possible to obtain the same appearance as that without the protruding portion. Further, by providing the outer peripheral dummy electrode, the electrostatic charge amount of the effective electrode is dispersed, and the conductive spacer having a role of keeping the distance between the upper substrate and the lower substrate constant is prevented. .

In FIG. 1, which is an example in which the present invention is applied to the basic structure of the liquid crystal display device, the dummy electrode portion 1 is formed under the seal portion 30 in the electrode portion formed on the lower substrate 50.
A separating portion 90 between 0 and the effective electrode portion 21 is formed. Similar to the lower substrate 50, a separating portion 80 is formed under the seal portion 30 on the electrode portion formed on the upper substrate 40.

FIG. 2 shows an electrode shape of the separation portion which is an embodiment of the present invention. 1 shows a specific embodiment of FIG. 1 and FIG.
The distance between the pixels formed in a matrix by the effective electrode portions 20 and 21 is 12 μm, and the distance between the protruding portions of the opposing electrodes of the separating portions 80 and 90 is 8 μm. When a conventional liquid crystal display device was manufactured using the configuration of the above-mentioned example, static electricity was generated in the rubbing step of orienting with a cloth or the like, mainly for adjusting the alignment direction of the orientation film surface, but the protrusions The effective electrode portion was not destroyed because of the electric discharge at 1, and the alignment failure did not occur.

As described above, the present invention provides a transparent electrode pattern.
It is possible to obtain a high-quality liquid crystal display device by enabling high-quality display only by changing the exposure mask for scanning. Further, since it is possible to deal with a case where a plurality of liquid crystal display devices are obtained in one set of upper and lower substrates, the manufacturing process of the conventional display device,
It can be said that the liquid crystal display device structure is advantageous in terms of cost and productivity and is effective in display quality without changing the manufacturing device.
