Abstract

(57)【要約】 【目的】 低消費電力で、電磁力を用いた引き打ち法高
速印字を可能にする。 【構成】 磁性粉と熱可塑性樹脂からなるプラスチック
マグネット材料によって、流路基板1と蓋板4とを形成
する。そして、両者の対向面が互いに磁気的に吸引し合
うように配置する。両板1,4の間には、圧力発生室2
bに対応する孔部3aを有する補強板3を介在させる。
また、蓋板4上にはコイル5(電磁力発生装置)を取り
付ける。非印字時は、コイル5に電圧を印加せず、予め
磁化されている蓋板4および流路基板1は、その極性に
よって互いに引き付け合い、孔部3aと対応する圧力発
生室2bの容積が極めて小さくなる。印字時には、一旦
コイル5に電圧を印加して電磁石として作用させ蓋板4
を流路基板1から離反させた後、すぐに電圧印加を停止
して再び蓋板4を流路基板1に接近させ圧力発生室2b
の容積を減少させて、インクを射出する。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【0001】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、インクジェット記録装
置に関するものである。
【0002】
【従来の技術】従来、オンデマンド型インクジェット記
録装置において、高電圧駆動を要する圧電素子を用いる
構成に代えて、特公昭62−9431号や特開昭57−
105360号に示されるように、振動板(蓋板)を電
磁力によって変形させ圧力発生室内の体積を変化させて
インク滴を射出する構成とし、高電圧駆動に伴なう欠点
(安全性やコストの問題)を解決したものがある。
【0003】一方、高速印字を可能にするために、常時
圧力発生室内の容積を最小とし、印字に際しては、一旦
圧力室内容積を最大にしてから再び最小として、インク
滴を射出するいわゆる引き打ち法が採用されている。
【0004】
【発明が解決しようとする課題】上記の通り、引き打ち
法により高速射出を実現し、良好な印字品質を実現する
ためには、常時振動板を圧力発生室内へ変形させて圧力
発生室内の容積を最小にしておく必要がある。電磁力を
利用したインクジェット記録装置において、この引き打
ち法の印字を行なうには、予め振動板に永久磁石を取り
付け、この永久磁石に近接して設けたコイル(電磁力発
生装置)に電圧を印加することにより反磁界を形成し、
永久磁石のついた振動板を流路基板側へ変形させ圧力発
生室容積を最小としておく必要がある。そして、インク
滴を射出する場合は、一旦コイルへの電圧印加を停止し
て圧力発生室容積を大きくした後、再びコイルに電圧を
印加して圧力発生室容積を最小にし、瞬間的に圧力発生
室内のインクをノズルを介して射出させる。
【0005】このように、印字スタンバイ中は圧力発生
室側へ振動板を変形させておく必要があり、常時コイル
に電流を流しておく必要がある。そのため消費電力が増
大する。
【0006】あるいは、特公昭62−26912号に示
されているように、印字スタンバイ中は蓋板を変形させ
ずに、印字信号が入力された時点で振動板を圧力発生室
の容積を増加させる方向に変形する様に磁界を発生さ
せ、その容積が最大になった所で電圧印加を停止して、
振動板を解放しインク滴を射出する方法もある。この場
合、コイルに常時電流を流しておく必要はない。しか
し、インク滴射出後、振動板の振動は拘束を受けないた
め、振動が収束するまでの時間が長くかかるとともに、
射出時の圧力発生室の容積変化速度が遅いことから、射
出速度は遅く高速印字を実現するのは難しい。
【0007】そこで本発明の目的は、電磁力を用いて蓋
板または流路基板を変形させてインク射出を行なうイン
クジェット記録装置において、低消費電力で引き打ち法
による印字が行なえ高速印字を可能にすることを目的と
する。

【課題を解決するための手段】上記目的を達成するため
に、本発明に係るインクジェット記録装置は、インク流
路が形成されている流路基板と、流路基板の流路面に設
けられている蓋板と、流路基板または蓋板の少なくとも
一方を磁気的に反発または吸引可能な電磁力発生装置と
を有しており、流路基板または蓋板のうち少なくとも一
方は、常磁性体または反磁性体のいずれかを含み、両者
が磁気的に互いに吸引し合うように設けられているもの
である。
【0009】そして、電磁石発生装置は、印字時には、
一旦作動して蓋板と流路基板とを離反させた後、作動を
停止して再び蓋板と流路基板とを接近させるように設定
されている。

【実施例】図1〜3に本発明の第1の実施例を示してい
る。流路基板1は、常磁性体の粉末(SmCo系磁粉な
ど)を熱可塑性樹脂(ナイロンなど)からなるバインダ
ーによって結合したプラスチックマグネット材料を用
い、射出成形によってインク流路2を有する形状に形成
されている。このインク流路2は、大容積の共通インク
室2aと、複数の圧力発生室2bと、各圧力発生室2b
と共通インク室2aとを連通するリストリクション部2
cと、各圧力発生室2bから流路基板側面へ穿設された
ノズル部2dとから構成されている。
【0011】流路基板1の流路面上には、比較的高剛性
の材料からなり、上記圧力発生室2bに対応する孔部3
aを有する補強板3が配設されている。
【0012】補強板3上には、流路基板1と同様のプラ
スチックマグネット材料により成形された磁性体部4a
と、非磁性体部4bとが結合されてなる蓋板4が接着さ
れている。このとき、図2に示すように、例えば流路基
板1の上面がN極、蓋板4の磁性体部4aの下面がS極
というふうに、両者の対向面がそれぞれ異なる極性を示
し互いに吸引し合うように配置される。
【0013】蓋板4の上面には、複数の圧力発生室2b
にそれぞれ対向するように、コイル5からなる電磁石
(電磁力発生装置)が固定部材6を介して取り付けられ
ている。なお詳述しないが、コイル5および固定部材6
は蓋板4に対し着脱自在である。そして、コイル5には
図示しないリード線から選択的に電力が供給されるもの
である。
【0014】このような構成のインクジェット記録装置
の作動について説明する。図2に示すように、通常時
(非印字時)は、コイル5に電圧を印加せず、磁界を作
っていない。従って、予め磁化されている蓋板4および
流路基板1は、その極性によって互いに引き付け合う。
実際には、薄い平板である蓋板4の方が撓み易く流路基
板1側に引き寄せられる。そして、圧力発生室2bの容
積が極めて小さくなる。なお、ノズル部2d,リストリ
クション部2cにおいては、補強板3が介在しているた
め、蓋板4は変形せず正確な形状に保たれる。
【0015】この状態からインク滴を射出する場合は、
まず図3に示すように駆動回路(図示せず。)からの印
字信号に基づいてコイル5に電流が流れ、コイル5が電
磁石として作用して蓋板4が吸引されて変形する。この
時、蓋板4はその極性に反して、流路基板1から離反す
る方向(図面上方)に向かって変形する。そして、ほぼ
水平になることにより圧力発生室2bの容積が最大とな
る。この時、共通インク室2aからリストリクション部
2cを通って、圧力発生室2bにインクが補充される。
圧力発生室2bの容積が所望の大きさにまで到達した
ら、電圧印加が遮断される。そこで、コイル5側に吸引
されていた蓋板4は、自らの極性に従って流路基板1と
引き付け合って変形する。そして、再び図2に示すよう
に、圧力発生室2bが最小容積となる。この時に、圧力
発生室2b内のインクは、ノズル部2dより外部の図示
しない印字媒体に向けて射出される。
【0016】このように本発明は、一時的に圧力発生室
2bの容積を増大させてすぐに初期状態に復帰させるだ
けでインク射出を行なうもので、電磁石から解放される
ことによる蓋板の復元力と、流路基板1または蓋板4と
に予め付与されている磁性による磁気的な引力とが、圧
力発生室2bの容積を小さくする力として働くため、蓋
板4の変形速度すなわち射出速度を大きくすることが可
能となり、効率よく高速印字が可能となる。
【0017】また通常状態(非印字時)には、電圧を印
加していないため、消費電力が少なくてすむ。またこの
状態では圧力発生室2bの容積が最小であるため、流体
的抵抗が大きい状態となり、外部から加わる振動や衝撃
などによるインクの流動が抑制され、外乱に対する信頼
性が向上する。
【0018】図4には、本発明の第2の実施例をインク
流路2に直交する方向に断面した状態を示している。こ
れは、流路基板7の圧力発生室2b内に突起7aを設け
たものである。前述と同様に流路基板1および蓋板4は
磁性体からなっており、この突起7aの作用で鎖線で示
すような磁路が形成し易くなっており、非印字時に両板
1,4が吸引し合う際の信頼性が向上する。なお、突起
7aはインク的の射出の妨げとならないような形状およ
び大きさに形成されている。
【0019】なお、上記2つの実施例では流路基板1と
蓋板4のいずれもプラスチックマグネット材料で形成し
たがこれに限定されるものではない。例えば、流路基板
1または蓋板4のいずれか一方のみを磁性体により形成
することもできる。また、常磁性体ではなく反磁性体に
より形成してもよく、この場合電磁石に加える電圧の向
きを常磁性体と反対にすればよい。また、常磁性体と反
磁性体とを結合した構成とすることもできる。この時
は、圧力発生室に対向する部分とそれ以外の部分とで分
ける構成とすることが望ましい。すると電圧印加時に圧
力発生室2bの容積が拡大する時、それ以外の部分(共
通インク室2aなど)では容積が減少しようとするた
め、インクの補充などにおける効率の向上が可能であ
る。
【0020】また、実施例では電磁力発生装置のコイル
5が圧力発生室2bの真上にあるが、圧力発生室上に電
磁力が作用すれば、別の場所にあるコイルより磁性材の
ヨークに電磁力を作用させても良い。

【発明の効果】本発明に係るインクジェット記録装置に
よると、印字に際して、電磁石の吸引から解放されるこ
とによる蓋板の復元力と、流路基板または蓋板の磁気的
な引力とを利用して蓋板を変形させ、インク射出を行な
うため、効率よく高速で印字できる。しかも、通常は、
電圧印加を遮断しておけ消費電力が少なくてすむ。ま
た、外部から加わる振動や衝撃などに対する信頼性も向
上する。

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項1】 インク流路が形成されている流路基板
    と、上記流路基板の上記流路面に設けられている蓋板
    と、上記流路基板または上記蓋板の少なくとも一方を磁
    気的に反発または吸引可能な電磁力発生装置とを有し、 上記流路基板または上記蓋板のうち少なくとも一方は、
    常磁性体または反磁性体のいずれかを含み、両者が磁気
    的に互いに吸引するように設けられていることを特徴と
    するインクジェット記録装置。
  2. 【請求項2】 上記電磁石発生装置は、印字時には、一
    旦作動して上記蓋板と上記流路基板とを離反させた後、
    作動を停止して再び上記蓋板と上記流路基板とを接近さ
    せるように設定されたものであることを特徴とするイン
    クジェット記録装置。
