Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a flame-resistant composition exhibiting flame-resistance and fire-retardance, having excellent adhesivity and useful for refractory material, building material, automotive muffler, filler, etc., by compounding an inorganic hydroxide to a viscous material obtained by dissolving sorbitol and borax in water. CONSTITUTION:A transparent highly viscous liquid is produced by mixing sorbitol, borax and water and heating the mixture at 80 deg.C to dissolve sorbitol and borax in water. The viscous material is compounded with an inorganic hydroxide such as aluminum hydroxide, calcium hydroxide and calcined gypsum to obtain the objective flame-resistant composition exhibiting sufficiently high flame-resistance and fire-retardance, having excellent adhesivity and handleability, free from toxicity, easily and firmly bondable to the surface of wood, paper, metal, polyethylene film, concrete, etc., and widely usable as an automotive muffler, filler, etc., as well as various refractory materials and building materials.

しい。また、これらの2種以上を無機水酸化物として用
いてもよい。なお、無機水酸化物の配合量は多いほど耐
炎性、難燃性は良好となるが、上記の粘体物に対して1
20重量%をこえて配合すると、得られる組成物が脆く
なるので好ましくない。また、粘体物に無機水酸化物を
添加配合する場合に、メチルアルコ−ル等の粘体物と混
合し得る溶媒を粘体物に添加したのち、無機水酸化物を
添加してもよい。ソルビットと硼砂とを水に溶解させる
には、これらの混合物を80〜90℃の温度に加熱して
おこなうのが好ましい。

し、接着性にも優れた本発明の組成物となる。

組成物をガスの炎で焼くと、石質不燃体となつた。さら
に、この石質体を室温で放置すると軟化したが、再び炎
で焼くと再度硬化し石質体となつた。 実施例2

用いられるほか、自動車のマフラ−、充填剤等として広
く使用することができる。また、本発明の組成物は毒性
も有しないので、製造する際等において取扱いやすいと
いう利点もある。
