Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve joint strength, corrosion resistance, brazability. rebrazability, etc., by using titanium and titanium alloy as a core material, cladding silver directly to the surface thereof and cladding a silver alloy to the surface thereof. CONSTITUTION:The titanium and the titanium alloy are used as the core material 1 and a cylindrical material 2 is clad to the surface thereof. Further, a silver alloy cylindrical material 3 is directly clad to the surface thereof. The titanium which is the core material 1 is light and has the excellent corrosion resistance and an adequate strength and is extremely outstanding as the spectacle material. The silver alloy cylindrical material 3 which is one of noble metals is used as the surface layer in order to take advantage of the characteristics possessed by the titanium and to enhance a design characteristic. The silver cylindrical material 2 is used as an intermediate layer between the core material 1 and the surface layer. The silver cylindrical material 2 is used between the core material 1 and the surface layer as a intermediate layer. The copper and titanium in the silver alloy used for the surface layer react preferentially to form a brittle intermetallic compd. and, therefore, such reaction is required to be prevented. On the other hand, the direct joining of the silver and the titanium is possible and, therefore, the silver is used as a barrier material.

2. Description of the Related Art In the above-mentioned field, as a noble metal clad composite material, titanium is used as a core material, a noble metal (gold, platinum, silver) is used as a surface layer, and bonding based on the formation of an intermetallic compound by bonding of both metals A composite material using nickel or niobium for an intermediate layer is used for the purpose of preventing the formation of intermetallic compounds because of problems such as deterioration of strength and corrosion resistance and deterioration of brazing property and re-brazing property. For example, composite materials as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 have been developed. However, the nickel used in the intermediate layer is a social problem because it may cause damage to the human body such as dermatitis, and when niobium is used, the brazing and re-brazing properties are rather inferior. .

Titanium, which is the core material of the composite material of the present invention, is light and excellent in corrosion resistance, and has appropriate strength, and is very excellent as an eyeglass material. Therefore, a silver alloy, which is one of the noble metals, is used for the surface layer for the purpose of utilizing the characteristics of the titanium and further improving the designability. The silver alloy preferably contains 1 to 9% of copper. The strength of silver can be increased by solid solution of copper, and the strength can be further increased by aging treatment. However, if the copper content exceeds 9%, the effect of the aging treatment cannot be expected.

Silver is used as an intermediate layer between the core material and the surface layer. Copper and titanium in the silver alloy used for the surface layer preferentially react with each other to form a brittle intermetallic compound, which needs to be prevented. It is used as a barrier material. The core material of the present invention may be a material other than titanium, for example, other alloys or plastics.

Example A composite material shown in FIG. 1 was prepared. First, titanium was used as a core material 1, and a surface thereof was sequentially coated with a silver cylinder material 2 having a thickness of 0.5 mm and a silver alloy cylinder material 3 having a thickness of 3.2 mm. The distance between the layers at this time was about 0.2 mm. Next, after the copper end plugs 5 and 6 were assembled and evacuated as shown in the figure, the contact portions between the silver alloy cylindrical material 3 and the end plugs 5 and 6 were welded to form a composite billet.

This composite billet has a deformation resistance of the material sufficiently lowered and a temperature of not higher than the eutectic point of silver and copper of 700 to
It was extruded at a temperature of 750 ° C by hot isostatic pressing into a bar of 15 to 20 mm. After that, the bar is 5.2m with a surface reduction rate of 12 to 15% for each pass.
After the wire was drawn to m, the copper was removed by shaving, and the wire was drawn again to a predetermined diameter at the same area reduction rate.

As a result of observing the obtained wire with a scanning electron microscope, it was found that the layers were well bonded without forming an intermetallic compound between the layers. Further, as a result of performing a shear test by the method shown in FIG. 4, it is considered that each layer interface maintains a sufficient bonding strength because the layer interface broke without peeling at each layer interface. From the above results, it was confirmed that the composite material of the present invention satisfied the function required as a spectacle frame material.
