In order to do this, the rolled flat die also becomes larger. Further, in order to process a spline of a certain length, it is necessary to make the width of the flat rolling die larger than the length of the spline.

The width of the tool in the linear direction is smaller than the width of the tooth profile to be formed, and the workpiece pressing surface of the rolling tool has a portion where the height of the teeth is high at approximately the center of the width and low at both ends. It has a configuration in which a plurality of arcuate blades are formed in parallel rows at a constant pitch in a direction perpendicular to the width of the blade.

The workpiece is in approximately point contact with the top of the parallel blade, and the top forms a tooth profile such as a spline. When one of the opposing rolling tools is translated upward and the other downward, the workpiece is rotated about its axis. The desired tooth profile is then rolled by repeating the same process. Here, the pressing load of the rolling tool can be smaller than in the past, and the tool itself or the rolling device can be simplified.

The planar shape of the tooth is such that the height of the teeth is high at approximately the center of the width, and the shape of a partial arc is low at both ends, with the apex 14 at the center. The blades 13 are formed parallel to the width B of the dies 11 and 12 at a constant pitch in a direction perpendicular to the width B, and are all of the same shape. The width B of the flat dies 11 and 12 is smaller than the length of the spline 6 to be machined on the surface of the cylindrical workpiece 5.

する。 To perform spline processing on the workpiece 5, flat dies 11 and 12 are arranged opposite to each other with the workpiece 5 in between.
While pushing the workpiece 5 between the flat dies 11 and 12 from one end thereof along the rotation axis direction, the flat dies 11 and 12 are relatively reciprocated in directions parallel to each other in synchronization with the pushing to form the spline teeth. Form.

Therefore, as shown in FIG. 3, material flows as indicated by arrows P and Q along the arcuate shapes of the flat dies 11 and 12, and the axis C of the workpiece 5 occurs.
The material also flows well in the direction of. The rolling force required for plastic working of the spline is reduced by the amount of material flow in the direction of the axis C of the workpiece 5. Conventionally, the flow in the direction of the axis C of the workpiece 5 indicated by the dotted line in Fig. 5 was not carried out well, and as a result, end face sag (insufficient bulge at both ends of the spline) occurred and a large rolling force was required. With this design, no edge sag occurs. Furthermore, in this embodiment, the flat die 11,
12 is symmetrical with respect to the center line C1 , so the workpiece 5 can be pushed in from either direction and reciprocating processing is also possible.
