Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove deformation or strain from a plastic thin-wall lens having deformation or strain and to shape said lens so as to have a predetermined curved surface by placing the plastic thin-wall lens on a mold having the curvature same to that at the time of molding and then thermally shaping the same. CONSTITUTION:A plastic lens 1a heated and deformed in a hard coat film curring process is placed on a glass mold 2 and heated to be shaped at 80-140 deg.C for 20min-1hr. By this heat treatment, a plastic lens 1b having the same curved surface as the glass mold and having no deformation is obtained. When heating temp. is lower than 80 deg.C, shaping effect is insufficient and, when exceeds 140 deg.C, the yellowing of the lens is generated. When a heating time is 20min or less, shaping effect is insufficient and, when the heating time exceeds 1hr, there is the possibility of the yellowing of the lens in the same way.

"Prior Art and its Problems" Plastic lenses are lightweight, hard to break, and can be dyed, so they have come to be widely used for eyeglass lenses and the like. However, the manufacturing process of plastic lenses includes not only heating during polymerization but also processing steps using heating during curing and dyeing of the hard coat film. This heating applies thermal stress to the lens, and especially in thin lenses, the curved surface of the lens is deformed, making it impossible to achieve a predetermined curvature.

Furthermore, the method of the present invention may be applied to a plastic lens base, but if it includes a heating process, such as when forming a hard coat film or dyeing, there is a risk that the heating will cause the material to deform again and cause distortion. Therefore, it is preferable to carry out the shaping method of the present invention after performing a treatment including a heating step.

Example 1 A thin plastic lens whose convex side has a surface layer refractive power value of 5.45 diopters expressed by the following formula (where N represents the refractive index of the lens material and R represents the radius of curvature of the lens). A thin hard coat film was applied to a spherical lens with a center thickness of 10 mm and a diameter of 80 wn by applying a silicone hard coat liquid to a thickness of about 2 μm on both sides of the lens using the dip coating method, and then heated at 120 °C. It was placed in a constant temperature bath and cured. After curing, the surface layer rupture power on the convex side of the lens was measured, but due to thermal deformation due to curing, a difference in surface layer rupture power occurred in two directions as shown in Table 1.

As a result of measuring the surface layer rupture strength value on the convex side, the value was as expected as shown in Table 2, and the amount of deformation was also within the allowable range.
