Abstract

PURPOSE:To impart an arbitrary high degree of gloss only to the desired part of a printing surface by applying desired printing to the surface of a printing base material and subsequently coating the desired region of the printing region with varnish and laminating a film to the surface of the varnish layer before the perfect curing of the varnish. CONSTITUTION:Varnish 3 is applied to the desired part of the printing region 2 of printed matter 1 and a film 4 is laminated to the varnish layer before the varnish is perfectly cured and subsequently peeled off to make it possible to easily impart a desired degree of gloss to the desired printing region. The varnish applied to the printing surface is pref. two-pack type curable varnish capable of being enhanced in concn. and, for example, one consisting of a polyol resin such as polyester polyol, acrylic polyol or polyether polyol or a resin such as a melamin resin, an aminoalkyd resin or an epoxy resin and a curing agent such as polyisocyanate, an acid, melamine or an epoxy resin is useful.

There is also a method of laminating a film on the printing surface.
In this case, since the film is attached to the printed surface via an adhesive, the entire surface is laminated with the film, and it is not possible to polish only the desired areas.

The film used may be any film such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polystyrene, nylon, etc., and the surface smoothness thereof may be arbitrary. That is, if a film with high gloss is used, the high gloss will be transferred to the printing surface, and if there is an uneven pattern, this uneven pattern will be transferred to the printing surface. Furthermore, the surface of the film may be subjected to a mold release treatment to facilitate its release from the hardened varnish.
