Abstract

PURPOSE:To wash off and remove the excessive impregnation solution bonded to the surface of a porous article by a method wherein the porous article subjected to impregnation treatment is introduced into a washing solution from the air so as to draw an arc to be moved through the washing solution and taken out to the air from the washing solution to be moved through the air and again introduced into the washing solution. CONSTITUTION:A porous article such as a casting is held in a cylindrical basket 13. The pores of the porous article are filled with an impregnation solution. Since the impregnation solution is bonded to the entire surface of the porous article at the same time, the impregnation solution bonded to the surface of the porous article is washed off and removed using washing water 15 prior to the sealing treatment due to the curing of the impregnation solution. The basket 13 is fixed to the basket fixing frame 21 arranged in a washing tank 11 by clamps 23. After fixing, the basket fixing frame 21 is rotated around a rotary shaft 25. The impregnated porous article held in the bascket 13 is introduced into the washing water 15 from the air by this rotation to be rotated in the washing solution to reduce air pockets and taken out to the air from the washing water 15 to be rotated in the air to drain the washing water and again introduced into the washing water 15. This washing operation is repeated. Therefore, the impregnation solution bonded to the surface of the porous article can be washed off.

It has been conventional practice to seal "nests" or porous parts of metal castings, powder metallurgy, ceramics, concrete products, plastics, wood, paper, etc. with an impregnating liquid. Sealing treatment not only provides a leak-preventing effect, but also as a pre-treatment to prevent clouding, blistering, and peeling during plating and painting, as well as for the electrical insulation of plastics and ceramics, and for the machinability of sintered bodies. It can be used to improve the strength of wood and paper products, and is applied in a wide range of fields.

The impregnating liquid used is, for example, one in which the main ingredient is a curable monomer such as an acrylic monomer and a polymerization initiator is added thereto. In the impregnation treatment, for example, a porous article such as a metal casting is placed in an impregnating tank, the impregnating tank is evacuated, an impregnating liquid is introduced into the impregnating tank, the porous article is immersed, and the holes are filled with the impregnating liquid. Further, the impregnation tank is opened to the atmosphere, or after being pressurized, the impregnation tank is opened to the atmosphere to complete the filling.

After that, the porous article whose pores are filled with the impregnating liquid is washed with a cleaning liquid such as water to remove excess impregnating liquid adhering to the surface of the porous article, and then the porous article is heated to remove the impregnating liquid in the pores. The impregnating liquid is cured and the sealing process is completed.

If the surface of the porous article is not completely cleaned during the cleaning process, the remaining impregnating liquid will harden on the surface of the porous article during heating, which may damage the external shape or change the external dimensions and cause the pore diameter etc. It deviates from the tolerance.

The method for cleaning an impregnated porous article of the present invention includes applying an impregnating liquid to the surface of the porous article and filling the pores with the impregnating liquid in order to seal the pores of the porous article. After the impregnation treatment, the excess impregnating liquid adhering to the surface of the porous article is washed away.
During removal, the impregnated porous article enters the cleaning liquid from the air in an arc, moves through the cleaning liquid, jumps out of the cleaning liquid into the air, moves through the air, and enters the cleaning liquid again. The method is characterized in that the porous article is cleaned by applying a rotational motion to the porous article.

A porous article, such as a casting, is held within a cylindrical basket 13 with a framework and metal mesh walls, a bottom and a lid. This porous article, together with the basket 13, has been immersed in an impregnating liquid in a previous step to undergo an impregnating treatment, and the impregnating liquid is filled into the pores of the porous article. At the same time, since the impregnating liquid adheres to the entire surface of the porous article, the impregnating liquid adhering to the surface is washed and removed with cleaning water 15 prior to sealing treatment by hardening the impregnating liquid.

After fixing, the basket fixing frame 21 is rotated around the rotation axis 25.
Rotate in the direction of arrow A. Due to this rotation, the impregnated porous article held in the basket 13 is exposed to cleaning water 15 from the air.
The air pockets are reduced by rotating in the cleaning water 15, and the cleaning water is drained by flying out from the cleaning water 15 into the air and rotating in the air.
5 and repeat the above cleaning operation. Therefore, even if the porous article has a complicated external shape, the cleaning water can flow into the fine details and be discharged, thereby cleaning the impregnating liquid adhering to the surface of the porous article.

In the apparatus shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the basket 13
Since the rotation axis 25 of the basket 13 is at the surface of the cleaning water 15, all of the porous articles in the basket 13 repeatedly enter the cleaning water 15 and fly out into the air.
The whole can be used effectively. Even if the porous material d rotates, if it is always in the air, that part will not be immersed in the cleaning water 15, and the cleaning effect will be inferior to other parts. On the contrary, 5
Also when a part of the porous article is rotated while always immersed in the cleaning water J5, the cleaning effect of that part is inferior to that of other parts.

Furthermore, by performing normal rotation and reverse rotation in the direction of the arrow A and changing the direction of rotation over time, the state in which the porous article contacts the cleaning water changes, making it possible to more effectively clean the details.

The porous article inside is cleaned from various directions. By temporally changing the direction of rotation in the direction of arrow B and performing forward and reverse rotations, the cleaning effect can be further enhanced. Further, by providing a device for forcibly applying convection to the cleaning water 15 in the cleaning tank 11, such as an air bubbling device, a stirring device, a water jet, etc., the cleaning effect can be further enhanced. Alternatively, instead of or together with these convection devices, an ultrasonic oscillator may be provided to perform cleaning while oscillating ultrasonic waves to the cleaning liquid.
