Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the current consumption of a motor by reducing the rotational frequency of an optical disk except at the time of recording/reproducing or in the case of the absence of an access command from the external to an optical disk device for a certain time.
CONSTITUTION: Output sides of a command analyzing part 13, a write circuit 4, and a read circuit 5 are connected to the input side of a timer 20, and the output side of the timer 20 is connected to the input side of a speed control part 10. The rotational frequency of an optical disk 1 is reduced by the command analyzing part 13, which monitors the instruction for the optical disk device from a higher-order device, and the timer 20 if the instruction from the higher-order device is not a recording or reproducing instruction or is absent for a certain time. Thus, the current consumption of the motor is reduced.
