Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a new preservative of freshness of cut flowers for preventing wilting of petals and stems and leaves of cut flowers after harvesting, such as flowering plants and maintaining flower colors and leaf colors for long hours, comprising a specific azole-substituted cyclopentanol derivative as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A preservative of freshness of cut flowers comprising an azole- substituted cyclopentanol derivative shown by the formula (A is N or CH; R<1> and R<2> are H or 1-3C alkyl; X is H or halogen) as an active ingredient. The preservative is used for maintaining freshness of cut flowers. The preservative prevents wilting and yellowing of leaves of various kinds of cut flowers and wilting of petals and has excellent freshness retaining effects. Therefore, the preservative maintains various kinds of cut flowers in a fresh state for a long period of time stably, favorably grows stems, leaves, buds, flowers, etc., and flowers buds.

However, the above-mentioned known methods do not have a safe and sufficient freshness-preserving effect on all kinds of cut flowers, are complicated to use, and have limited use situations. Another problem is that it involves the use of drugs that require careful handling due to toxicity. Therefore, there has been a demand for the development of a new chemical that consistently and stably exhibits a superior freshness-preserving effect compared to these known methods, and a technique for preserving the freshness of cut flowers using the same.

The present inventors have conducted extensive research into maintaining the freshness of cut flowers using an inexpensive, safe, and simple method. It was discovered that the storage period of cut flowers could be extended by soaking the cut ends of the cut flowers in water for a certain period of time.Furthermore, these azole-substituted cyclopentanol derivatives prevented the withering and deterioration of the leaves of various cut flowers, as well as the withering of the petals. The present inventors have discovered that the present invention can be prevented and produce an excellent freshness-keeping effect, leading to the completion of the present invention.

The azole-substituted cyclopentanol derivative represented by the above formula (I) used as an active ingredient in the present invention is disclosed in JP-A-82-149867 or JP-A-L-9357.
This is a substance described in Publication No. 4. Incidentally, these publications state that the azole-substituted cyclopentanol derivative of the present invention has bactericidal activity and plant growth regulating activity, and is used as an agricultural and horticultural agent. It is not disclosed that these methods are effective for preserving cut flowers. Therefore, it is surprising that the azole-substituted cyclopentanol derivative of the present invention exhibits the effect of retaining cut flowers for salmon.
