Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve production efficiency by slitting a raw sheet on which a magnetic layer is formed into plural tapes of specified width, polishing each tape, subjecting the tape to tension compensation process and then winding the tape on a reel. CONSTITUTION:The raw sheet 4 released from a unwinding drum 6 is guided through a guide roll 24 to slitting stage part 8, where the sheet is slitted into tapes 4A of specified width. In the slitting stage 8, the sheet 4 is required to have specified tension for each tape 4A, but the tension is decreased by a polishing device 10. The reduced tension is compensated by a tension compensator 12 to give uniform tension for each tape 4A. The tape 4A obtained by slitting is polished in the polishing device 10 to smoothen the surface of the magnetic layer. After polishing, each tape 4A is provided with specified tension by a tension roll 18 of the tension compensator 12 and wound up on a respective reel 14 by a reel holder 15. Thereby, the production efficiency of the magnetic recording tape can be improved.

Generally, in a method of manufacturing magnetic recording media such as video recording and recording tapes, a raw material on which a magnetic layer is formed is slit into a plurality of tapes using a slitting device, and each tape after the slitting is wound onto a reel.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] However, as described above, polishing the tape for each reel after winding is cumbersome and there is a problem that production efficiency cannot be improved.

However, if a polishing device (polishing process) is simply placed between the slitting process and the winding process, tension is applied to the tape by winding in the winding process, and the tension is reduced by the polishing device. As a result, sufficient tension cannot be obtained in the slitting process, and as a result, the running of the tape becomes unstable. For example, if the tension per tape in the winding process is about 50g/afi, the tension between the polishing process and the winding process is about 40g/ct, and the tension between the polishing process and the slitting process is about 10g/c+fl. Therefore, there is a problem that satisfactory slitting and stable tape running cannot be achieved with this level of tension.

On the other hand, generally, the length of the original fabric on which the magnetic layer is formed is not necessarily the same in the middle direction, and it is not homogeneous.
If a constant tension is applied only through the winding process, it is not possible to apply a uniform tension to each slit tape. If the tension is uneven in this way, satisfactory slitting and stable running cannot be achieved.

[Means for Solving the Problems] The present invention includes a slitting process for slitting a raw material of a recording medium on which a magnetic layer is formed into tape shapes, and a winding process for winding the tape slit in the slitting process onto a reel. A method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium in which a raw material is slit and wound as a tape, the method comprising: a polishing step of polishing the surface of the magnetic layer of the slit tape between the slitting step and the winding step; The above object has been achieved by providing a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium, which comprises a tension compensation step of independently applying a predetermined tension to each slit tape.

According to the method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium of the present invention, a raw material on which a magnetic layer is formed is slit into a plurality of tapes of a predetermined width, each tape is subsequently polished in a polishing process, and then subjected to a tension compensation process. It is wound onto a reel in the winding process. In the polishing process, sufficient tension is applied to each tape by the tension compensation means, so even if the tension of the tape is taken away in the polishing process, the tension necessary for the slitting process can be obtained.

The raw fabric 4 pulled out from the unwinding drum 6 passes through the guide roll 24 and reaches the slit section 8, where it is slit into a tape 4A of a predetermined width. At this time, in the slitting section 8, a predetermined tension is required on the original fabric 4 or the tape 4A in order to smoothly perform the slitting. It is applied uniformly to each tape 4A. Therefore, since a constant tension is always applied to the slit portion 8, a reliable slit can be made and the tape can run stably.
