In conventional diamond cutting tools, both the rake and flank surfaces are polished to facilitate polishing in order to efficiently polish and sharpen. For this reason,
As in the example shown in FIG. 1, the thin face B and flank face A of the diamond chip 1 held by the shank 2 and the presser foot 3 have a cutting edge ridge line when polished in the direction of the polishing marks shown in the figure. C will be undulated. These polishing marks are unavoidable in the conventional polishing method by fixing the cutting tool and rotating the polishing plate, and occur in most diamond cutting tools. Therefore, minute undulations of about 0.01 to 0.04 μm are generated on the ridge line C. FIG. 2 shows an example of mirror cutting using the conventional cutting tool described above. In the figure, E is equivalent to the feed amount of the tool per revolution of the workpiece, and D is equivalent to the cutting edge C of the cutting tool.
The surface roughness F inside this region D is equivalent to the waviness of the cutting edge C. If the required surface roughness of the machined surface is 0.1 to 0.3μmRmax, this waviness of the cutting edge will not be a problem, but if the finished surface roughness is
When Rmax reaches approximately 0.01 μm, this undulation of the cutting edge becomes a problem because it deteriorates the surface roughness.

An object of the present invention is to provide a diamond cutting tool that eliminates the drawbacks of the prior art described above and reduces the influence of minute waviness at the cutting edge on the surface roughness of the finished surface.

In order to achieve the above object, the present invention presses the flank surface against a rotating polishing plate, polishes it while applying feed in a direction different from the polishing direction, and after making the surface free from polishing marks, This product provides a diamond cutting tool made using a polishing method that grinds the rake face to form a cutting edge.By making the flank surface free of polishing marks, the finished surface has minute undulations and is given surface roughness. The aim is to reduce the impact.

An embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 3 is a schematic side view of a polishing machine used for polishing the diamond cutting tool of this embodiment. In the conventional diamond cutting tool, in order to attach the cutting edge, the cutting tool is pressed against the rotating polishing plate 9 and polished without feeding, so that the ridge of the cutting edge is undulated as described above. To polish the diamond cutting tool of the present invention, attach the cutting tool 8 to the holder 7 installed on the feeding device 6 shown in FIG. After polishing, polish the rake face without applying feed so that it can be sharpened. The diamond cutting tool of this example finished by this polishing method is shown in FIG. As shown in FIG. 4, the flank face A has no polishing marks, so there are almost no undulations, and the rake face B has polishing marks because it is polished without feeding for cutting. As a result, the cutting edge line C has undulations within the plane of the rake face B;
There is almost no waviness within the flank surface A. If there is no waviness within the flank A, there will be no effect on the surface roughness of the cut mirror surface.

Note that the effects of the present invention will be even greater in a cutting tool whose crystal orientation is selected so that the direction of easy polishing of the rake face is parallel to the cutting edge ridge.
