Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a perfume compsn. which exhibits odorproof effect during use even when perfume properties are at a low level and is useful for detergents, a body odor preventing agent, etc., by bringing an odor strength index, bed smell decreasing value or odor decreasing value into a specified numeral range.
CONSTITUTION: A fragrant compsn. wherein a material exhibiting an odor strength index of smaller than 110 and a bad smell decreasing value or an odor decreasing value of at least 0.25 is used in a detergent, a compsn. for conditioning of a fiber product, a body odor preventing agent, etc., is provided. This compsn. (less than 5% are incorporated in a detergent) consists six classification [classification 1: phenolic substances (e.g. isoamylsalicylate), classification 2: refined oils, essential oils, extracts, resins and synthetic oils (e.g. Bergamot AB 430), classification 3: aldehydes and ketones (e.g. 7-acetyl-1,1,3,4,4,6- hexamethyltetralin), classification 4: nitrogen-contg. compd. (e.g. isobutylquinoline), classification 5: esters and classification 6: alcohols and ethers] and among these, at least 5 kinds of ingredients are incorporated.

Furthermore, GB 1589866 describes the use of citrate or esters of acetyl citrate (e.g. citric acid triethyl ester) as deodorants in soap bars.
It is proposed to add 3%. Surprisingly, certain compositions of aromatic materials, even if they themselves have low or imperceptible levels of aromaticity (low odor intensity), exert an odor control effect during use. It was found that it was possible to obtain This is advantageous in many applications where strong fragrance is not desired, but odor control is welcome.

The deodorizing perfume should preferably contain at least 5 different ingredients from at least 4 classes, preferably 5 or 6 classes. However, it is possible, and in fact usually advantageous, to use more than six different ingredients in formulating a fragrance. Ideally, most if not all fragrances are prepared from odor-resistant fragrance ingredients. Ingredients present in deodorizing perfumes for purposes other than obtaining an odor-preventing effect, e.g. additives such as antioxidants, may be excluded from the validity of the above instructions to the extent that such ingredients are necessary for said other purpose. . The levels of additives commonly present in fragrances or flavored products are well established in conventional materials and can be readily determined in new materials so that there is no difficulty in applying the above exclusions.

The sample is assessed by a group of appropriate number of assessors (for example, 34) trained to score the strength of the sample using numerical estimation methods. This is a ratio scoring method in which the relative intensity of each sample is scored as a ratio to the intensity of a range of odor standards (here benzyl acetate diluted with dibrobylene glycol at various concentrations).

Each sample is coded and presented to a panel of assessors at least twice in random order. A total of at least 6 participants each day over 2 days by at least 16 panellists.
Four tests (or sufficient to reach statistical significance) are performed on each sample. Assessments are performed in an environmentally controlled assessment room using colored lighting to ensure that the springlist is not influenced by slight color differences between samples. Individual test values are normalized and averaged to obtain a match strength rating for each sample. The perceived strength is expressed in arbitrary units and is obtained from the match magnitude estimate, which represents the ratio of perceived strengths, as follows.

Each springlist was required to assess the intensity of each non-test aromatic control sample (benzyl acetate in 10% dipropylene glycol) and the reference sample. Next, the intensity values (size estimates) of the control samples were used to normalize all assessment values for each spring list as follows. Alternatively, the normalized values of the samples were integrated for all spring lists to obtain the matching value (phased average) for the entire panel. Or, during the ceremony, ! .. - odor intensity index of sample k across the panel, (ix
) t = sample odor intensity (magnitude estimate) reported by the jth panellist, (1.), = normalized data for one panelist, n - number of samples, J = number of panelists, K = samples number, (ij+=control odor intensity (magnitude estimate) reported by the Jth spring list. The invention will now be described in more detail by means of non-limiting examples.
