【発明の詳細な説明】
CO2レーザーに用いるガス及びCO2レーザーによる作業方法
本発明は、CO2レーザーに用いるガス、すなわち少くともヘリウム、窒素及び
二酸化炭素(CO2)を成分として含み、活性媒体としていわゆるCO2レーザ
ーの空洞内に導入されるべきガスに関する。
実際に市場には、2種類の品質のガスが存在し、いわゆる1工業用グレード“の
ガスの保証純度は一般に99.5%付近であり、”科学用グレード1のガスの保
証純度は一般tζ99.995 %又はそれ以上である。
工業用グレードのガスは、レーザー用には精製不十分であり、レーザー用ガスと
しては、科学用グレードのガスが用いられ、これは非常にコストが高いという欠
点がある。
本発明は、より経済的なガス、特にCO2レーザーに適用できるガスを供給する
ことを目的としている。
このために本発明は、第1の態様によれば、少くともヘリウム、窒素及びCO2
を含むあらかじめ混合されたレーザー用ガスで、99.995 S以下の全体純
度、5vpm (百万分の1容積率位)以下の水分含量及び5vpm以下の炭化
水素総含量を有することを%像とするガスを目的としている。
第2の態様によれば、本発明は、少くともヘリウム。
%i1素及びCO2を含み、少くとも2種類のガスのその場での混合によ、って
得られたレーザー用ガスで、(a)前記各ガスが99.995%以下の全体純度
と、CO2が前記ガスの一つを構成するときは必要に応じてC02を除いて、5
vpm以下の水分及び5 vpm以下の炭化水素総含量を有し、そのCO2社
20 vpm以下の水分含量を有しても的としている@
本発明はまた、上に規定したようなレーザー用ガスをレーザーの空洞内に導入す
るCO2レーザーによる作業方法も目的としている。
容易に理解されるように、一方のガスの組成において、時として非常に微量でさ
え自発的に導入される成分と、ガス又は混合前のガス成分が非常&C入念なやり
方で精製されていないときは時として無視できない量が意図しないやり方でガス
中に入れられる不純物と鉱区別される。
したがって、例えば酸素、−酸化炭素、 CO2及び窒素に関しては後で見ら
れるように、同一物質が、一つのガスについては成分に、他のガスについては不
純物となり得る。
さらにC02レーザーに用いるガス成分の工業的製造で通常出会う不純物、すな
わち特に、水分、酸素、−酸化炭素、co2.炭化水素CnHm、水素、窒素、
アルゴン、ネオy、 CoS及びS02シか問題でない。
本発明によるレーザー用ガスの例社、添付の図面を参照して以下に述べられ、添
付の図については、第1図は、高速軸方向7ラツクス型の工業用CO2レーザー
について、80mbの圧力、510mAの電流で611j定された、レーザーの
空洞内1ζ導入されたレーザー用ガスの水分含量に応じた出力の変化を示すグラ
フであり、
w42図は、実験用CO2レーザーについて測定された、レーザーの空洞内に導
入されたレーザー用ガスの炭化水素含量に応じたゲイン(利得)の変化を示すグ
ラフである。
出願人は、CO2レーザーの機能への影111について広汎な研究を、ガスの工
業的製造で通常出会い、これらのレーザー向けのレーザー用ガス成分に入ってく
るいろいろな不純物の存在下に行った。これらの研究は、レーザーのゲインに本
質的に基いており、ゲインの大きさは、レーザーの出力と第1近似で比例してい
る。
結果は意外にも、水分と炭化水素−C対して高純度を保証することしか必要でな
く、一方その他の不純物1こ関しては、いわゆる工業用グレードのガスで見られ
るそれらと全く両立できる比較的高い含量でもレーザーの機能を妨げないことを
示した・
第1図は、水分含量が増加するとき、レーザーの出力が直線的に漸減することを
示している。しかしながら水分は、それが放電の安定をそこなうという事実から
、非常な微量であっても特に望ましいものではない0したがって、レーザー用ガ
スは、水分含量を5 vpm以下の値にもたらす乾燥処理を受けなければならな
い0第2図は、実験用レーザーについて研究室で行われたテストの結果を再現し
て込る〇
結果の分析は、顕著な、すなわちほぼ1%のゲインの減少を得ないように、炭化
水素総含量は5 vpm以下でなければならないという結論に導いた。このこと
は、ある種の炭化水素は、レーザーの空洞での放電によって破壊され、他の物質
、特に他の炭化水素を形成することができるという事実を考慮に入れている0工
業的に製造されたガス中に存在する他の不純物については、
−アルゴン、ネオン=1−までの含量については、ゲインに例の本質的な影響も
見られなかった。
−水素: 1.00Q vpm tでの含量については、ゲインのどのような減
少も見られなかった0
−CO8,802:工業用グレードのガス中で出会う量よりはるかに大きい値で
ある100 vpmまでの含量については、ゲインのどのような減少も見られな
かったO
レーザー用ガスの成分でない場合には、不純物となる他のガスがある。COとR
素がそれである〇テストは、それらが1.000vpmまでの含量については、
測定可能なゲインの減少を生じないことを示した0実際にレーザー用ガスは、2
種類の形状で供給することができる。
rll あらかじめ混合されたガスとして:この場合、上に述べた不純物のみ
が問題となる。レーザーの機能は、水分含量及び炭化水素総含量が両方とも5
vprn以下でさえあれば、科学用グレードに対応する純度(99,995%’
)以下の全体純度で十分である0(2)2種又はそれ以上のガスをその場で、す
なわちレーザーの空洞にガスを導入する直前に混合して:これらのガスは、レー
ザー用ガスの個別の成分又は一部予備混合物であってよい。
この場合、それぞれのガスに関係する不純物が、それらが最終的レーザー用ガス
の成分であったとしても問題になる。例えば、ヘリウム、窒素及びCO2をそれ
ぞれ収容している3本のボンベから、ヘリウム−窒素−C02の3成分レーザー
用ガスを製造する場合、窒素及びCO2はヘリウムに関して不純物として考慮さ
れるだろう。
そのとき本発明によるレーザー用ガスを製造するために満たすべき条件は、一方
では各ガスが99.995 S以下の全体純度を有すること、他方では最終混合
物が5vprtl以下の水分含量及び5 vpm以下の炭化水素総含量を有する
ことである。
しかしながら、C02が混合すべきガスの一つであるときは、混合物の水分含量
が5 vprn以下にとどまシさえすれば、CO2の水分含量は20 vpmに
達してもよい。
このことは、CO2が一般に、10チ以下の適度の含量でレーザー用ガス中に存
在するという事実から可能になる。
例として、ヘリウム74チ、窒素20チ及びC026チの組成を有する本発明に
よるレーザー用ガスは、次の要領で得られる。
(1)次のような不純物含量をもつあらかじめ混合された形で、

このレーザー用ガスの全体純度は、したがって99.99375−である。
(2) 表に示された不純物含量をもつ別個に供給された3成分から、
したがって混合物は水分含量3.2 vpm及び炭化水素べき結果を与えた@
びCO2以外に、成分として一酸化炭素及び/又は酸素を含有してもよい。

Claims (6)
- 1.少くともヘリウム,窒素及び二酸化炭素(CO2)を含む種類のあらかじめ 混合されたレーザー用ガスにかいて、99.99%以下の全体純度、5vpm以 下の水分含量及び5vpm以下の炭化水素総含量を有することを特徴とするレー ザー用ガス。
- 2.全体純度が99.5%と99.995%との間にもつばら含まれることを特 徴とする請求の範囲第1項記載のレーザー用ガス。
- 3.少くともヘリウム,窒素及び二酸化炭素(CO2)を含み、少くとも2種類 のガスをその場で個混合して得られたレーザー用ガスにおいて、(a)前記ガス それそれが99.995%以下の全体純度と、CO2が前記ガスの一つを構成す るときは必要に応じてCO2を除いて5vpm以下の水分含量及び5vpm以下 の炭化水素総含量を有し、そのCO2は20vpm以下の水分含量を有してもよ く、(b)混合物が5vpm以下の水分含量及び5vpm以下の炭化水素総含量 を有することを特徴とするレーザー用ガス。
- 4.前記ガスそれぞれが、99.5%と99.995%との間にもつばら含まれ ることを特徴とする請求の範囲第3項記載のレーザー用ガス。
- 5.ガスの成分が、ヘリクム,窒素及びCO2以外に−酸化炭素(CO)及び/ 又は酸素を含んでいることを特徴とする請求の範囲第1項左いし第4項のいずれ か1項に記載のレーザー用ガス。
- 6.請求の範囲第1項左いし第5項のいずれか1項に記載のレーザー用ガスをレ ーザーの空洞に導入することを特徴とするCO2レーザーによる作業方法。
