Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an agricultural/horticultural material free from any fear of residual pesticide and environmental pollution by mixing a specified amount of activated carbon powder with peat followed by forming into pellets and by impregnating these pellets with the volatile substances in a plant essential oil with antifungal/bactericidal activity. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, 3-50wt.% of activated carbon powder is mixed with peat followed by forming into pellets using a pelletizer. These pellets are then impregnated with the volatile substances in a plant essential oil with antifungal/ bactericidal activity (e. g. made from Japanese horseradish, scallion, beefsteak plant, garlic or citrus), thus obtaining the objective peat with antifungal/ bactericidal activity. The plant essential oil and the volatile substances therein are natural substances, being safe to human body; and when applied on soil, the volatile substances will be dispersed into the air, never being left in the soil. The pellets will gradually get out of shape in the presence of moisture or water into soil; thus enabling agricultural materials safe to human body and causing no environmental pollution to be provided.
