Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate sticking of a core slider to the surface of a magnetic disk medium when a magnetic head starts to float by providing a retreating area for a magnetic head in a manner that the retreating area has a lubricating layer of smaller thickness than in the recording area or CSS area. CONSTITUTION:The lubricating layer 3 is formed on a magnetic film layer 2 by coating with a sprayer, etc., to larger thickness than the required film thickness of the lubricating layer 3. Then the whole surface of the lubricating layer is wiped with a wiper to form a specified film thickness. Further, the inner circumference area is wiped to form a lubricating layer 3a thinner than the lubricating layer 3. The outer circumference area having the lubricating layer 3 is used as the recording area in which information is recorded from the outer circumference and as a CSS area for a magnetic head, while the inner area having the lubricating layer 3a is used as a retreating area for the magnetic head. The head is moved to the retreating area just before stopping the disk device to avoid sticking of the core slider to the disk medium surface.

Conventionally, in a magnetic disk device using this type of magnetic disk medium, the core slider of the magnetic head, which was in contact with the surface of the magnetic disk medium, slides and floats when the device is started, and also floats when the device is stopped. It uses a so-called contact start-stop (hereinafter referred to as C8S) floating method in which the core slider slides on the surface of the magnetic disk medium and comes to rest.Usually, the C8S operation moves the inner circumferential side of the magnetic disk medium. C to only do
The 8S area is used, and the outer circumferential side is used as a recording area for recording information. Furthermore, in order to improve the durability against sliding of the core slider in magnetic disk media, a lubricating film layer of a constant thickness is formed by the method described below.

FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view showing a conventional magnetic disk medium, where 1 is a non-magnetic support and is made of high-purity aluminum or glass, and 2 is a magnetic film layer for recording information. It is made of ferromagnetic powder and is formed on both sides of the support 1 to a predetermined thickness. Reference numeral 3 denotes a lubricant film layer, and a lubricant is applied on the magnetic film layer 2 by a spray device W (not shown) or a spin coating device (not shown) in advance so that the thickness of the lubricant film layer is lower than the required thickness. A thick coating is applied, and then the entire coated surface is wiped using a wiping device (not shown) to form a lubricating film layer of a predetermined thickness.

E Problems to be Solved by the Invention] In the conventional magnetic disk medium described above, the thickness of the lubricating film layer is constant over the entire surface, and if the film thickness is thick, the core slider and the magnetic disk medium surface may come into contact when the magnetic head starts flying. This has the drawback of causing adsorption, and if the thickness of the lubricating film layer is made thinner in order to prevent this adsorption, the durability against C8S operation is reduced, which is a contradictory result.
