Wipes of this type are commercially available ready for immediate use in individual packets or in bulk in suitable dispensers from which individual wipes can be removed as needed. Regardless of the form of packaging, wipes are stored for a substantial period of time before use and are therefore susceptible to microbial contamination,
and need to be protected against the deterioration to which they are susceptible. One common method for doing this is to include a suitable chemical preservative system in the liquid composition used to impregnate the nonwoven wipe.

This is because we are thinking about the manufacturing industry of moist) wipes. However, when removing ethyl alcohol from sorbic acid-citric acid-ethyl alcohol preservative systems for nonwoven wipes, combinations containing only sorbic acid and citric acid do not necessarily provide adequate protection against microbial contamination and deterioration. A problem arises in this respect.

Polyethylene Glycol Derivatives of Lanolin Containing 5 Moles of Ethylene Oxide (Summary of the Invention) To enhance the antimicrobial action of a combination of sorbic acid and citric acid in a preservative system for wet nonwoven wipes,
Since it is well known that various commercially available cationic biocides have substantial effects on nonwoven fabrics, we investigated their inclusion in the preservative system. Unfortunately, the presence of cationic biocides imparted an undesirable slipperry feel to impregnated nonwoven wipes, especially those whose fiber component contained a significant proportion of rayon or rayon-polyester blend. However, it has been found that the slippery feel of wet wipes can be significantly suppressed by containing either of two specific cationic bionides.
