Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress the static electricity generated in a substrate to a low level and to prevent electrode destruction, etc., by taking out the substrate after a rubbing treatment by means of a substrate attaching/detaching member constituted of an insulator. CONSTITUTION:The substrate 1 coated with an oriented film is subjected to the rubbing treatment by rotating a rotary drum 2 stuck with brush-shaped fibers on the outer periphery of the drum in a specified direction. The substrate 1 after this treatment is taken out of the rubbing device by using the substrate attaching/detaching member 3 constituted of the insulator such as 'Teflon(R)'. As a result, the static electricity generated in the substrate 1 is suppressed to the practicably low level and the generation of the electrode destruction, orientation defects, etc., by electric discharge is prevented.

As a conventional rubbing method, a general method is to rotate a rotating drum in which brush-like fibers are arranged on the outer periphery in a certain direction, and bring the brush-like fibers into contact with the substrate for rubbing treatment. Generally, the substrate is attached and detached using a substrate attachment/detachment section of a rubbing device that uses a material that is not used.

[Problem to be Solved by the Invention''] I However, in the above-mentioned conventional technology, when the substrate attachment/detachment part of the rubbing device is a conductor, static electricity generated by friction between the rotating fibers and the substrate is transferred to the substrate attachment/detachment part of the substrate and the conductor. There is a problem in that discharge occurs between the electrodes, causing electrode breakage and poor alignment.

[Means for solving the problem] In the method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device of the present invention, a pair of substrates that have been subjected to a rubbing process using a predetermined rubbing device are placed facing each other with a predetermined gap, and liquid crystal is applied between the nuclei and in the gap. The method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display device by filling the liquid crystal display device with the substrate may include a step of bringing the substrate into contact with a substrate attachment/detachment member of the rubbing device via an insulator.
