Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the electric discharge at the edge of transparent electrodes arising from the static electricity generated between a glass substrate and a rubbing roller by adhering conductive tapes to plural pieces of the transparent electrodes formed on the glass substrates so that all the transparent electrodes are maintained at the same potential. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of the transparent electrodes 2 disposed to face each other above and below are juxtaposed onto the surface of the glass substrate 1 and an oriented film 3 is formed atop the electrodes 2. The conductive adhesive tapes 5 are adhered respectively to the electrodes 2 and thereafter both tapes 5 are connected by another conductive tape 5' to short-circuit all the transparent electrodes 2 formed on the substrate 1. The rubbing roller 4 is moved so as to contact under pressure with the surface of the substrate 1 by which the film 3 on the substrate 1 is rubbed. All the electrodes 2 are maintained at the same potential by the tapes 5, 5' during this time and even if the static electricity is generated between the substrate 1 and the roller 4, the electric discharge at the edge 2a of the electrodes 2 is prevented and the breakdown of the film 3 is prevented.

[Prior art] As a method for moving an alignment film in a conventional liquid crystal display cell, as shown in FIG. Furthermore, an alignment film 3 is formed on the upper surface of the transparent electrode 2. Then, the rubbing roller 4 is moved so as to come into pressure contact with the surface of the glass substrate 1 to rub the alignment film 3 on the glass substrate 1, thereby aligning the liquid crystal material.

[Problems to be Solved by the Invention] In the conventional rubbing method, static electricity is generated between the glass substrate 1 and the rubbing roller 4 because the rubbing roller 4 moves on the glass substrate 1 while pressing against it. Since static electricity is discharged at the edge portion 2a of the transparent electrode 2, the alignment film 3 on the edge portion 2a of the transparent electrode 2 may be destroyed, resulting in poor alignment.

[Example] Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail using an example shown in the drawings. In order to understand the present invention, parts that are the same as those of the conventional example are given the same reference numerals. 1 is a glass substrate that serves as the base of the liquid crystal display cell, and the surface of the glass substrate 1 has upper and lower parts. A plurality of transparent electrodes 2 are arranged in parallel to face each other, and an alignment film 3 is further formed on the upper surface of the transparent electrodes 2. After adhering conductive tapes 5 to each of the transparent electrodes 2 facing downward, both conductive M tapes 5 are connected with another conductive tape 5', and the glass substrate 1 All the transparent electrodes 2 formed in the above are short-circuited. Next, the rubbing roller 4 is pressed against the surface of the glass substrate 10 and the alignment film 3 on the glass substrate 1 is rubbed. At this time, the transparent electrodes 2 are all at the same level due to the conductive tapes 5 and 5', and even if static electricity is generated between the glass substrate 1 and the rubbing roller 4, the transparent electrodes 2

[Effects of the Invention] As explained below, according to the alignment film rubbing method according to the present invention, a conductive tape is adhered to a plurality of transparent electrodes formed on a glass substrate, and all the transparent electrodes are bonded. Since they are set at the same potential, it is possible to prevent discharge at the edges of the transparent electrode caused by static electricity generated between the glass substrate and the rubbing roller, and the alignment film is not destroyed, resulting in alignment without defective alignment. membrane can be obtained.
