Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a water substrate sterilizable gel comprising a carboxypolymethylene polymer (carboma) and a polyhydric alcohol and enabling sterilization of gel by gamma irradiation. CONSTITUTION: This sterilizing gel comprises a carboxypolymethylene polymer (carboma) and 1-90% polyhydric alcohol for stabilization (e.g. ethylene glycol). The carboma (carboxymethylene) can be sterilized by assistance of the polyhydric alcohol and avoids deterioration of gel when the gel is sterilized by γ-radiation derived from cobalt 60. The gel can be used for medical use as a lubricant.
