In particular, the present invention relates to a structure in which the function of the hubcap to seal between an axle member and a non-rotating member and the function of the hubcap to fix the bearing to the outer member are separated and each function is assigned to a separate part.

An axle member that rotates together with the wheel is rotatably attached via a bearing to the outer periphery of a non-rotating axle that is supported by the vehicle body via a suspension arm. The hubcap is compressed and fixed at the edge inside the formed short cylindrical end, and the bonding force between the hubcap and the axle member due to this press fitting causes the outer periphery of the hubcap and the axle member to be fixed. This provides a sealing function between the inner surface of the end portion of the member and a retaining force function for the hub cap on the axle member.

It is necessary to insert the tool between the axle member and the hub cap and then pry the tool. The tip of the tool then scratches the hubcap, creating a hole in the hubcap that can allow water, dust, etc. to enter the bearing.

There is also a risk that it may get into the bearing area and cause problems.

A mounting structure for an automobile hub cap in which a hub cap is attached to a non-rotating member outside the bearing to seal a gap between the axle member and the non-rotating member, wherein the hub cap is attached to a cap body; It consists of an elastic sealing member that is adhered to the outer periphery of the cap body and in close contact with the outer member, and a fixing member that fixes the cap body to the outer member.

As in the embodiments described below, there are cases where the axle member is located inside the bearing and the non-rotating member is located outside the bearing, and the present invention includes both of the above cases.

The lower end of the non-rotating member 1 is connected to the vehicle body via a ball joint 2 and a suspension lower arm (not shown), and the upper end is connected to a suspension upper arm (not shown). It is connected to the vehicle body side through a so-called wishbone type front suspension. An axle 4 is connected to the internal opening of this non-rotating member 1 via a bearing 3.

This elastic sealing member 12 has a reinforcing ring 14 vulcanized and bonded therein, and the elastic sealing member 12 with the reinforcing ring 14 vulcanized and bonded is bonded to the cap body 11 as described above. The reinforcing ring l4 has an L-shaped cross section, of which a portion 1 forms an inward flange shape.

A fixing member 13 is fixed to this stepped portion 11a. The fixing member 13 is, for example, made by punching out an iron plate using a press, and includes tongue pieces 13c, 13d and claw pieces 13e, 13f integrally formed on the outside of a ring part 13b having a central hole 13a. Attachment holes 13g and 13h are opened therein. This fixing member 13 is also painted similarly to the cap body 11. This painting may be done by welding the fixing member l3 to the cap body 11 and then painting the fixing member 13 and the cap body 11 at the same time, or by painting both separately and then bonding them together with an adhesive. It may be something that has been done.

The tongue pieces 13c, 13d are brought into close contact with the inner surface of the
The hub cap 10 is fixed to the non-rotating member 1 by inserting bolts 15 and 16 into the mounting holes 13g and 13h and screwing them onto the non-rotating member 1. Here, the mounting position of the fixed member 13 with respect to the non-rotating member 1 is determined by the above-mentioned bolt }15.
The reason why there are two locations 16 is to prevent electrical contact when the non-rotating member 1 and the hub cap 10 are made of different materials.
This is because the hub cap 10 is bolted at the minimum number of locations necessary to obtain the fixing force. By bolting these two places, the fixing member 13 can easily change its posture around the line connecting both the mounting holes 13g and 13h, so the claw pieces 13e and 13f are attached to the openings of the non-rotating member 1 on both sides of this line. By applying it to the end face, the stability of the posture of the fixing member 13 is ensured.

Moreover, in addition to the adhesive force between the cap body 11 and the elastic seal member 12, the inward flange portion 14a of the reinforcing ring l4, which is vulcanized and bonded to the elastic seal member 12, is strong. Since the opening end of the cap body 11 is holding down the cap body 11, this also has sufficient fixing force.

This is because a fixing function is not expected between the elastic seal member 12 and the non-rotating member l, and therefore no fixing force is applied between them. Once released, the cap body 1l can be easily pulled out from the non-rotating member l.

Even if electrical contact occurs, it will not affect the sealing function inside the non-rotating member 1 because it is located far away from the non-rotating member 1.

However, unlike the prior art described above, the axle member is located outside the bearing 3. Of course, the present invention can also be applied to a suspension device in which the non-rotating member is on the inside. In this case, the hub cap 10 will be fixed to the axle member.

It is also possible to tighten the bolts at the position, and thereby the claw pieces 13e and 13f become unnecessary.

Therefore, it can be installed without requiring any compression means, and it can be removed without having to pry with the tip of a tool or the like. This eliminates the risk of the tool tip scratching the hubcap and creating a hole in the hubcap that would allow water, dust, etc. to enter the bearing, and that the outer member is made of aluminum alloy, etc. Even when the hubcap is molded from a relatively soft material, there is no risk that the inner surface of the outer member will be scraped off by the edge of the hubcap when the hubcap is attached, and that the chips will enter the bearing portion and cause trouble. Also,
Since the cap body is fixed to the outer member by the fixing member, it can be prevented from coming off due to vibrations during driving.
