。[Function] The photoresist coated on the substrate is exposed to light through the display area of the liquid crystal display panel, and the index is formed on the substrate based on this exposure, so there is no generation of scraps as in the conventional method. Furthermore, by simply controlling the liquid crystal display panel and changing the display on the display section, a desired title index can be easily and efficiently applied to the substrate.

A drive circuit 7 is connected to the common electrode 5 and segment electrode 6 of 4, and under the control of this drive circuit 7, a title for an index of required light-transparent characters and symbols is displayed on a normally black display section 8. It looks like this. A fiberscope bundle 9 is provided above the liquid crystal display panel 4, and a light source 10 for emitting ultraviolet light, for example, is provided at the base end of the fiberscope bundle 9.

Light-transmissive characters or symbols, such as the title rB-123J, corresponding to the index to be applied to substrate a are displayed. In this state, the light from the light source 10 is irradiated onto the display section 8 of the liquid crystal display panel 4 through the fiber scope bundle 9.

Since the index is formed on the substrate by performing this process, there is no problem of generation of shavings as in the conventional method, and the device can also be constructed in a small size and at low cost. There is an advantage that the title of the index to be applied to the board can be easily and efficiently changed simply by controlling the liquid crystal display panel and switching the display on the display section.
