Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve hydrophobic effect to wood by treating a wood with a soln. of at least one alkyltrialkoxysilane and drying it successively at a specified temp. CONSTITUTION: In a method wherein a wood is impregnated with an org. silicone compd., the wood is treated with a soln. of at least one alkyltrialkoxysilane of formula R-Si(ORa)3 (wherein R is a 3-18C alkyl group and R' is a 1-4C alkyl group) and is successiyely dried at 40-90 deg.C. A non-protonic solvent, e.g. petroleum ether or white spirit or a protonic solvent, especially an alcohol, a water-diluted one or water alone can be used. In this case, the protonic solvent is pref. and it is used in cope with solubility of the org. silicon compd. In general, 1-4C alcohols are used separately or by being mixed together.
