Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a head crash even when a recording medium under rotation and a head come into contact by providing an oscillation detecting element for detecting the oscillation of the head and monitoring the contact of the head and the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A head core 3 is provided with the oscillation detecting element 4, such as piezo element, for detecting the oscillation of the head core 3 and the electric signal corresponding to the oscillation generated in the head core 3 is transmitted via a signal line 5 to a control section. The recording medium rotates and the head core 3 is floated by the wind pressure thereof in the case of recording and reproducing information. If the head core comes into contact with the recording medium under rotation upon degradation of the floating state, the electric signal is transmitted via the signal line 5 to the control section by the oscillation generated at the moment of the contact. The floating state of the core 3 is monitored in this way, by which the manual or automatic stop of the device before the generation of the head crash is executed.

2. Description of the Related Art Generally, a magnetic disk device includes a disc-shaped recording medium and a recording/reproducing head, and records and reproduces information. Further, when recording and reproducing information, the recording medium rotates, and the wind pressure causes the head to float above the surface of the medium, thereby performing recording and reproducing.

FIG. 2 is a schematic configuration diagram of a head section in an embodiment of a magnetic disk device according to the present invention. In FIG. It is configured to include a head core 3 provided at the tip of a spring 2. The head core 3 is provided with a vibration detection element 4 that detects vibrations of the head core 3, as shown in FIG. The vibration detection element 4 is a well-known piezoelectric element (for example, a piezo element).
As a result, an electric signal corresponding to the vibration generated in the head core 3 is generated and transmitted to a control section (not shown) via the signal line 5.

In this configuration, when information is not recorded on or reproduced from a recording medium (not shown), the head core 3 is brought into contact with the recording medium by the spring 2. On the other hand, when recording and reproducing information, a recording medium (not shown) rotates, and the head core 3 is made to float due to the wind pressure.

Here, suppose that the flying state of the head core 3 deteriorates and comes into contact with the rotating recording medium. Then, an electric signal is generated by the vibration at the moment of contact, and is transmitted to a control section (not shown) via the signal line 5. In this manner, by monitoring the floating state of the head core 3 using the vibration detection element 4, it is possible to manually or automatically stop the apparatus before a head crash occurs.

Another possible method is to determine that an abnormality occurs when vibrations due to contact occur a predetermined number of times. In this case, the configuration may be such that a counter or the like counts the number of times the above-mentioned electrical signal is generated, and sends a signal to the control unit when the counted value reaches a predetermined number.

Furthermore, a method of determining an abnormality when the magnitude of vibration exceeds a certain value may also be considered. In this case, a comparator or the like is used to constantly compare the reference voltage with the voltage level of the electrical signal described above, and when an electrical signal with a voltage level higher than the reference voltage is generated, a signal is sent to the control unit. It's fine.

Alternatively, the rotation of the recording medium may be immediately stopped using a well-known brake or the like without sending an electric signal to the control unit.
Furthermore, an operator or the like may be notified by lighting an LED or the like.

In this embodiment, the vibration detection element 4 is provided on the back surface of the core slider 6, but the installation location is not limited. It's fine as long as it's not there.
