Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a coated stainless steel sheet having superior adhesion of the paint by applying a chromate-contg. resin coating agent to the surface of a stainless steel sheet, drying the coating agent and carrying out coating with paint. CONSTITUTION:When the surface of a stainless steel sheet is coated with paint contg. various pigments to produce a coated stainless steel sheet having improved decorativeness while maintaining the corrosion resistance of the base stainless steel sheet, the adhesion of the paint to the stainless steel sheet is weak and the paint is liable to peel off. In order to prevent this peeling, an acrylic resin coating agent contg. 1-40wt.% chromate is applied to the surface of the stainless steel sheet and dried at 50-250 deg.C to form an undercoat by 1-5g/m<2> on dry basis and then coating with paint is carried out. A coated stainless steel sheet having high adhesion of the paint to the base stainless steel sheet and superior peeling resistance of the paint is obtd.

However, in recent years, coatings on stainless steel sheets have been made to contain various pigments in the paint to produce various colors and enhance the design, as well as to take advantage of the corrosion resistance of the underlying stainless steel and to increase durability. Painted stainless steel sheets are becoming popular mainly for interior and exterior building materials.

<Problem to be solved by the invention> However, such coated stainless steel is often subjected to various complicated processing, and there are problems such as the paint easily peeling off in areas where the processing is severe. Therefore, its use was limited to applications that required severe processing. Such peeling of the paint occurs due to poor adhesion between the paint and the underlying stainless steel, and there has been a long-awaited method for improving the adhesion between the paint and the stainless steel.

As a method for improving the adhesion between paint and stainless steel, pretreatment methods for stainless steel have been studied, and proposals have been made such as applying chromate treatment to the surface of stainless steel (Japanese Patent Laid-Open Nos. 57-161069 and 57-161070). There are, but
Although it improves the adhesion between paint and stainless steel, it has not yet been put to practical use in applications that require severe processing.

The gist of the present application is to coat the surface of a stainless steel plate with a resin coating agent containing chromate as a pretreatment of the stainless steel plate. If the chromate contained in the resin is less than 1%, the adhesion between the stainless steel and the resin will be poor, and if it exceeds 40%, the resin coating will become brownish and cannot be used for purposes such as clear painting. In addition, if the thickness of the resin coating agent containing chromate is less than 0.1 g/m'', the adhesion between the stainless steel and the paint will be poor;
If it exceeds ', the resin chromate film becomes brownish and cannot be used for purposes such as clear coating, so the basis weight of the resin coating agent is limited to 0.1 to 5 g/m2 in terms of dry weight.
