方にストライプ状のコモン電極を多数行に形成し
、他方の基板に、赤、緑、青の三原色のうちの第
1の色の画素を表示するための第1色画素表示用
セグメント電極と、第2の色の画素を表示するた
めの第2色画素表示用セグメント電極と、第3の
色の画素を表示するための第3色画素表示用セグ
メント電極とを多数列に形成したマトリツクス型
のカラー液晶表示素子において、前記各セグメン
ト電極をドツト状電極とし、これらセグメント電
極を、各コモン電極に対してそれぞれ4行以上に
かつ奇数行のセグメント電極と偶数行のセグメン
ト電極とをコモン電極長さ方向に1/2ピツチず
らして配列するとともに、奇数行のセグメント電
極は、第1色画素表示用セグメント電極、第3色
画素表示用セグメント電極、第2色画素表示用セ
グメント電極の順で交互に配列し、偶数行のセグ
メント電極は、第2色画素表示用セグメント電極
、第1色画素表示用セグメント電極、第3色画素
表示用セグメント電極の順で交互に配列して、前
記コモン電極の長さ方向に対して交差する方向に
並ぶ各列の同色画素の表示用セグメント電極同士
をその両側のセグメント電極列間を通る信号線に
より接続し、この各セグメント電極列を3列ずつ
1組として駆動することにより、3列1組のセグ
メント電極列の各コモン電極にそれぞれ対向する
