A common method for adjusting the register during printing in gravure printing, offset printing, etc. is to emit visible light on the printed register marks of each color, such as red marks, yellow marks, and indigo marks, and then use the reflected light to emit visible light. A detector using a photoelectric element that receives light detects the printing positional relationship of the register marks of mutual colors, and controls the position and operation of the convenser roller of the printing press, thereby controlling the initial stage of printing and printing. This is a method of trying to match the register inside. However, since such a method uses a detector using a photoelectric element as described above, it is naturally impossible to detect transparent ink, and it cannot be applied to printing using transparent ink. However, the use of transparent ink in printing has become more frequent in recent years, such as overcoating designs with transparent resin or forming adhesive layers and release agent layers when creating transfer materials, stickers, etc. Even in printing using transparent ink, it is desired to achieve registration in the same way as in the case of normal ink. For example, in conventional transfer materials, the adhesive layer and release agent layer were formed to cover the pattern area, so after the transfer, the extra adhesive layer and release agent layer were transferred to areas other than the pattern area. This tended to spoil the beauty of the design.

In view of the current state of the printing industry, the present inventors set out to invent a registration method for printing using transparent ink, and as a result of various studies, they have completed the present invention. That is, in the present invention, at least one plate is printed using transparent ink containing a trace amount of fluorescent whitening agent, and the registration mark portion printed with the transparent ink is irradiated with ultraviolet rays to emit luminescence to form the registration mark. This is a registration method for printing using transparent ink, which is characterized by detecting the position of the registration mark and the registration mark printed by another plate, and registering the pattern.

Next, the present invention will be explained in more detail. In the present invention, at least one plate is printed using transparent ink containing a trace amount of optical brightener. Examples of fluorescent brighteners used include Kayalite B (trademark, manufactured by Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd.), Illuminal (trademark, manufactured by Showa Kako Co., Ltd.), and the like. It is sufficient for the content of the fluorescent whitening agent to be 0.1% to several % with respect to the transparent ink made of resin, solvent, etc. Incidentally, the transparency of the ink is almost never impaired by the inclusion of a fluorescent whitening agent.

Next, the register mark portion printed with the transparent ink is irradiated with ultraviolet rays. The register mark portion irradiated with ultraviolet light emits luminescence (cold light) due to the fluorescent whitening agent. By using a detector having a built-in light receiving section that detects this luminescence, the position of the registration mark can be detected. The positions of this register mark and register marks printed by other plates are detected, and the patterns are registered. If printing with another plate is performed using transparent ink, the register mark portion is detected using a method similar to that described above. Further, when printing with another plate is performed using opaque ink, the register mark portion is detected using a detector used in normal printing.

Note that the light emitting device that emits the ultraviolet rays may be built into the detector, or may be provided at a location other than the detector.

Since the present invention is a registration method as described above,
Since it enables registration in printing using transparent ink and can be easily applied to existing printing machines, it is expected that it will be widely used in printing using various transparent inks.
