Generally, a ballast for a discharge lamp is constructed by housing the ballast main body and a capacitor in a container, and filling the cavity of the container with a compound. However, in recent years, as capacitors have become smaller due to the use of film, the gap between the capacitor and the container has become larger and larger, and the slope of the capacitor has tended to increase during the compound filling and curing process. The situation was such that the risk of the terminal coming into contact with the inner wall of the container was increasing. However, containers are made of metal for various safety reasons, and contact phenomena have been a serious problem. In the past, various proposals have been made to improve the structure of capacitors in order to solve these problems. For example, the one disclosed in Japanese Utility Model Application Publication No. 55-169836 has a terminal higher than the lead terminal 2 connected to the lead wire led out from the capacitor element in the opening of a resin case 1 housing a capacitor element, as shown in FIG. Guard plate 3 is fixed vertically, and it is also
In the device disclosed in Japanese Patent No. 71319, as shown in FIG. 2, a resin-cased capacitor 4 is attached to a capacitor guard plate 5, and the tip of the guard plate 5 is made to protrude from the lead-out terminal 6 of the capacitor. However, in the case shown in FIG. 1, if the terminal guard plate 3 is tilted to the side opposite to the side to which it is fixed, there is a risk that the lead-out terminal 2 will come into contact with the inner wall of the container, and this is not necessarily an effective countermeasure. Also the second
In the case shown in the figure, since the capacitor 4 and the capacitor guard plate 5 are fixed only at the lead-out terminal 6, the mounting position of the capacitor 4 changes due to various external forces applied during the process, which necessitates rework, reducing work efficiency. As a result, it could not be said to be an effective countermeasure, similar to the one shown in Fig. 1.

The present invention was developed in view of the above points, and improves workability by improving the opening shape of the case of the capacitor, which is housed in the same container as the ballast body. The object of the present invention is to provide a ballast for a discharge lamp that can completely eliminate contact between the lamp and the inner wall of the container.

An embodiment of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. That is, as shown in FIG. 3, a ballast main body 12 is housed in, for example, a metal container 11, and the upper part of the ballast main body 12 is provided with projections 13 extending upward at the four corners of the opening as shown in FIG. Case 1
For example, a phase advance capacitor, a lighting capacitor, and a noise prevention capacitor are each housed in 4, the cavity of the resin case 14 is filled with a sealing resin 15, and the lead terminals 16 connected to the various capacitors are connected to the surface of the sealing resin 15. A capacitor body 17 is drawn out, the tip of the draw-out terminal 16 is lower than the tip of the protrusion 13, and the cavity of the metal container 11 is filled with a compound 18.

In the discharge lamp ballast constructed as described above, the capacitor body 1 is filled with compound 18 during the filling and curing process.
No matter what direction the terminal 7 is tilted, there is a risk that the terminal 16 will come into contact with the metal container 11 because the tips of the upwardly extending protrusions 13 provided at the four corners of the opening of the resin case 14 are higher than the tips of the terminals 16. There is no gender at all. Note that the structure of the protrusion provided at the opening of the resin case is not limited to that exemplified in the above embodiment, but as shown in FIG. The same effect can be obtained by using a structure in which the insulating rod 20 is fixed integrally with the insulating rod 20 and the tip of the insulating rod 20 is higher than the tip of the lead-out terminal 22.

As described above, according to the present invention, the height of the four corners of the opening of the resin case housing the capacitor element is higher than the height of the tip of the lead-out terminal. To provide a highly safe discharge lamp ballast in which a lead terminal does not come into contact with a metal container even if the ballast is tilted.
