Abstract

PURPOSE:To always hold a recording head to a state suitable for recording, by providing a means for recirculating the recording liquid in a recording head and performing control so that an ink pressure feed means is turned ON when the temp. of the recording head is high as compared with set temp. and turned OFF when said temp. of the recording head becomes a second low temp. CONSTITUTION:The temp. of a recording head is detected by a temp. detection means to judge whether said temp. is higher than set temp. When the temp. of the recording head is not higher than the set temp., recording is continued as it is and, when said temp. is judged to be higher than the set temp., a carriage 3 is guided to a home position H after the recording of the line thereof is finished to connect an emission recovery apparatus 14 to a recording head unit 1 and an ink pressure feed means is driven with respect to the recording head becoming high temp. Subsequently, when the detected temp. is judged to become lower than the set upper limit temp. with due regard to histeresis, the recirculation of ink by the ink pressure feed means is stopped and the carriage 3 is moved from the home position H to perform recording.

Various types of liquid jet recording devices have been commercialized in the past, but bubble jet recording devices, which use an electrothermal converter for energy to eject recording liquid into droplets, are capable of high-speed, high-precision recording. Because of this capability, its future prospects are seen as more promising than other inkjet recording methods.

However, while this type of bubble jet recording device has the above-mentioned characteristics, the heat generated as ejection energy when a driving voltage pulse is applied to the electrothermal transducer is accumulated in the recording head, causing the recording head to rise in temperature. Therefore, the viscosity of the ink filled in the liquid path of the print head decreases, and as a result, the amount of ink ejected from the print head tends to increase, changing the image quality. Therefore, the recording head needs to be cooled, and conventionally, as a countermeasure, it has been considered to provide a fan, but the cooling efficiency is not sufficient and it goes against the simplification of the apparatus.

Next, the control operation procedure of the present invention will be explained with reference to FIG. First, in step 51, the temperature detection means 2
The temperature is detected from each of the recording heads 1ANID by A to 2D, and in step S2) it is determined whether the temperature is higher than the set temperature Tm. If the temperature is not higher than the set temperature, proceed directly to step S8 and continue recording, but if it is determined that the temperature is higher than the set temperature, step S
3, the carriage 3 is guided to the home position H after the recording of that line is completed, the recovery device 14 is connected to the recording head unit 1, and the ink pressure feeding means is driven for the recording head whose temperature has become high in step S4.

Next, in step S5, the temperature is detected by the temperature detection means, and it is determined whether the detected temperature has become lower than the upper limit set temperature Tm' taking hysteresis into consideration. In this way, steps S4 and S5 are repeated until the temperature becomes lower than the upper limit set temperature Tm', and when it is determined that the temperature has become lower than the upper limit set temperature Tm', the circulation of ink by the ink pressure feeding means is stopped in step S7, and the process proceeds to step S8 to move the carriage from the home position H. 3 and perform recording.

By implementing the control operations described above, even if the temperature of the recording head gradually or suddenly increases, for example when recording is performed continuously, the temperature of the recording head can be kept higher than that. This effectively suppresses the increase in ejection amount due to a decrease in ink viscosity, prevents changes in temperature, and also prevents undershoot from occurring due to excessive cooling. be done.

FIG. 6 shows a control operation when the timer provided in the control circuit 21 circulates the ink in the print head according to the print time, and is an example in which the control is simplified. That is, in step S1, a timer is set, and in step S2, it is determined whether the set time has reached a predetermined time,
Recording is continued until the set time is reached, and the temperature of the recording head is detected in step S3. Thus, in step S4, it is determined whether the detected temperature is higher than the upper limit set temperature Tm,
The operations of steps 55 to 51G are performed below, but these operations are similar to steps 5l to S8 described in the example of FIG.
, so its explanation will be omitted. Note that after the series of operations after reaching the set time, recording is performed in step 510, and the process returns to step Sl to set the timer again.

FIG. 7 shows a case where the number of scans of the carriage 3 is counted by a counter provided in the control circuit 21, and the temperature is detected every predetermined number of scans. In this example, first step 51
In step S2, a counter is set, and it is determined in step S2 whether the number of times the carriage 3 has scanned has reached a predetermined set number. In this way, recording is performed 1421a until the set number of times is reached, and if it is determined that the number of scans has reached the predetermined set number of times, the process advances to step S3 and the following step S
4 to step 510 are performed. Incidentally, also in this example, the operations of steps 53 to 510 correspond to step 5t-sa shown in FIG. 5, so the explanation thereof will be omitted. Also in this example, after the set time is reached, recording is performed in step SIO according to the operations from the Stellaf 53 onwards, and at the same time, the process returns to step S1 and the counter is reset again.

In the above description, the case of an inkjet recording apparatus equipped with the recovery device 14 has been described, but the present invention can also be applied to an inkjet recording apparatus without a recovery device. In this case, there is no need to return the recording head unit 1 to the home position, and the temperature of each recording head is detected during normal recording operation.
If there is a recording head whose temperature is higher than a predetermined temperature Tm, a drive signal is supplied to the ink pressure feeding means belonging to that recording head. Make it.

In this case, it may be carried out in real time, but it can also be controlled using a timer or counter as shown in the examples of Figs. Since there is no need to restore and connect it to the recovery device, time can be saved accordingly.

As described above, according to the present invention, recording ink is circulated to the recording head via the circulation path by the ink pressure feeding means, and when the recording head is cooled, recording is performed so that the ink viscosity does not decrease. A suitable upper limit temperature is set in advance, and when the detected temperature obtained from the temperature detection means becomes higher than the set temperature, the ink pressure feeding means is driven to lower the temperature to a second temperature set in relation to the set temperature. If so, the ink pressure feeding means is controlled to be stopped, so that the temperature of the recording head can be prevented from deviating from the temperature appropriate for recording.
