Description
TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to a cover glass applied to a flexible device whose housing can be bent, and a flexible device having the cover glass.
Portable electronic devices such as smart phones using touch panels are used in a wide range of fields. Such an electronic device has not only a touch panel but also a display for displaying images and a cover glass for protecting the touch panel and the display. In recent years, there are many devices with characteristic displays and cover glass shapes to differentiate them in terms of design.
Among them, flexible electronic devices have begun to be actively studied. Flexible devices can be broadly classified into those that include a curved portion as part of the device and those that have flexibility to the extent that they can be folded. The latter is sometimes called a foldable device (for example, see Patent Document 1). A foldable device has an operation area larger than that of a conventional smart phone, so operability is improved. Moreover, since it can be folded when it is carried, portability is not impaired. Furthermore, since each component of the device is also thinned, it is possible to reduce the weight of the device itself.
However, the foldable device has a problem of reduced strength because each component must be thin enough to be bendable. In particular, cover glasses for protecting displays and housings are susceptible to a reduction in strength due to thinning. Since the conventional cover glass has a plate thickness of about 0.5 mm, it was able to protect the display from impact such as dropping. However, in order to bend the glass substrate, it is necessary to reduce the thickness to less than about 0.1 mm. Since the strength of a glass substrate largely depends on its thickness, the strength of a glass substrate that has been thinned to the point where it can be bent is extremely low. was high.
There is also a configuration in which a resin-made transparent cover member is arranged instead of the cover glass, but there is also a problem that the texture of the resin material is inferior to that of the glass substrate, so it has not been actively adopted. Furthermore, there is also a problem that wrinkles are generated in the curved portion when the resin material is repeatedly bent. Therefore, there has been a demand for a cover member made of glass.
An object of the present invention is to provide a cover glass that can accommodate deformation such as bending and folding of the flexible device while suppressing a decrease in strength, and a flexible device having the same.
A cover glass according to the present invention is a cover glass for flexible devices and has a first main surface and a second main surface. The cover glass has corrugations on at least one of the first major surface and the second major surface. The wavy portion has a plurality of wavy grooves in a side view in a region corresponding to the bent portion of the flexible device.
A cover glass according to the present invention is a cover glass applied to a flexible device capable of bending or bending a housing. Flexible devices have bends such as hinges and bellows mechanisms. The cover glass can be deformed according to the deformation of the flexible device by providing the corrugated portion having a plurality of grooves formed at positions corresponding to the bent portions. In other words, the bendability of the cover glass is improved by reducing the thickness of the region where the groove is formed. Furthermore, the grooves are formed in a wavy shape when viewed from the side, thereby improving strength and reducing the risk of breakage when the cover glass is bent. In addition, the wavy shape in the present invention means a shape in which grooves are formed at regular intervals so that smoothly curvilinear recesses and protrusions are repeatedly formed.
Moreover, it is preferable that the width of the groove is larger than the formation interval of the groove. By making the width of the groove larger than the formation interval of the groove, it is possible to prevent adjacent grooves from coming into contact with each other when the corrugated portion is deformed.
Moreover, it is preferable that the groove is filled with a transparent elastic member. By filling the transparent elastic member, it is possible to improve the strength of the corrugated portion. Moreover, since the transparent elastic member is elastically deformed even when the wavy portion is deformed, there is little possibility that the cover glass will hinder the deformation of the flexible device. Furthermore, by using a transparent elastic body having a refractive index similar to that of the cover glass, it is possible to suppress deterioration in the visibility of a display image displayed on a display or the like.
Moreover, the flexible device which concerns on this invention is a flexible device with which the said cover glass was mounted|worn. A cover glass is attached to the outermost surface of the flexible device. Here, the outermost surface is, for example, a surface exposed to the outside, such as a display surface of a device such as a smartphone or a tablet, or a housing surface behind the display surface.
Also, the cover glass may be detachable from the flexible device. By attaching the cover glass to the flexible device via an adhesive layer or the like, it becomes possible to protect the flexible device from external impact as necessary.
ADVANTAGE OF THE INVENTION According to this invention, it becomes possible to provide the cover glass for flexible devices by which the fall of intensity|strength was suppressed, and a flexible device provided with the same.
An embodiment of the cover glass and flexible device according to the present invention will now be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 is a diagram showing a
The housing 12 is a box-shaped member configured to house the components of the
The
The
The
The
The
It is preferable that the width of the
From here, the deformation mechanism of the
Since the plate thickness of the region where the
Moreover, the cover glass according to the present invention can be applied not only to protect the display surface, but also to protect the back surface of, for example, a flexible device. FIG. 4 is a diagram showing the
The
In the embodiments so far, the
From here, another embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 5(A) to 5(C). In the
By filling the
FIG. 5B shows a
Since the plate thickness of the region where the
Further, as shown in FIG. 5C, the
In addition, it is preferable to form the corrugated portion formed on the cover glass according to the present invention by an etching process. An example of a method for manufacturing a cover glass will now be described with reference to FIGS. 6(A) to 6(D). A method for manufacturing a cover glass includes a protection process, a patterning process, a first etching process, a peeling process and a second etching process.
The protection step is a step of covering both main surfaces of the
The patterning step is a step of removing the
The first etching step is a step of bringing an etchant containing at least hydrofluoric acid into contact with the
The second etching step is a step of contacting the
By forming the
When using a large glass base material with a plurality of chamfered cover glasses in order to increase the production efficiency of the cover glass, the
Further, in the present embodiment, the
7(A) to 7(C) are diagrams showing an example of a method of manufacturing a cover glass in which the plate thickness of the corrugated portion is reduced. When the plate thickness of the
