Mounted Display)に用いられる表示装置に関する。
(A)観察者の頭部に装着されるフレーム、
(B)フレームに取り付けられた画像表示装置、及び、
(C)外部から入射する外光の光量を調整する調光装置、
を備えた表示装置であって、
画像表示装置は、
(a)画像形成装置、及び、
(b)画像形成装置から出射された光に基づき虚像が形成される虚像形成領域を有する光学装置、
を備えており、
光学装置は、調光装置の少なくとも一部分と重なっており、
観察者の鼻側を内側、耳側を外側と称し、光学装置の虚像形成領域と対向する調光装置の領域を虚像形成領域対向領域と称したとき、
調光装置の動作時、
(イ)虚像形成領域対向領域の上方領域及び外側領域から虚像形成領域対向領域の中央部に向かって調光装置の遮光率が減少し、又は、
(ロ)虚像形成領域対向領域の下方領域及び外側領域から虚像形成領域対向領域の中央部に向かって調光装置の遮光率が減少し、又は、
(ハ)虚像形成領域対向領域の外側領域から虚像形成領域対向領域の内側領域に向かって調光装置の遮光率が減少し、又は、
(ニ)虚像形成領域対向領域の下方領域から虚像形成領域対向領域の上方領域に向かって調光装置の遮光率が減少し、又は、
(ホ)虚像形成領域対向領域の外縁領域から虚像形成領域対向領域の中央部に向かって調光装置の遮光率が減少する。

本開示の表示装置において、調光装置は、
第1基板、
第1基板と対向する第2基板、
第2基板と対向する第1基板の対向面に設けられた第1透明電極、
第1基板と対向する第2基板の対向面に設けられた第2透明電極、及び、
第1透明電極と第2透明電極とによって挟まれた調光層、
から成る形態とすることができる。尚、調光装置は、更に、第1透明電極の一部の上に形成された第1電極を備えていてもよく、この場合、第1電極は、直接、調光装置の遮光率を制御するための制御回路(調光装置・制御回路)に接続されていてもよいし、場合によっては、第1電極に接続された第1接続部が設けられ、第1接続部が調光装置・制御回路に接続されていてもよい。あるいは、第1電極を設けることなく、第1接続部と第1透明電極とが、直接、接続されてもよい。また、第2透明電極の一部と接する第2接続部が設けられ、第2接続部が調光装置・制御回路に接続されていてもよい。あるいは又、第2透明電極の一部の上に形成された第2電極を更に備えていてもよい。そして、第2電極は、直接、調光装置・制御回路に接続されていてもよいし、場合によっては、第2電極に接続された第2接続部が設けられ、第2接続部が調光装置・制御回路に接続されていてもよい。第1接続部は、第2基板と対向する第1基板の対向面に、接続部以外は第1透明電極と接しないように設ければよい。第2接続部は、第1基板と対向する第2基板の対向面に、接続部以外は第2透明電極と接しないように設ければよい。
(b-1)画像形成装置から入射された光が内部を全反射により伝播した後、観察者に向けて出射される導光板、
(b-2)導光板に入射された光が導光板の内部で全反射されるように、導光板に入射された光を偏向させる第1偏向手段、及び、
(b-3)導光板の内部を全反射により伝播した光を導光板から出射させるために、導光板の内部を全反射により伝播した光を偏向させる第2偏向手段、
を備えており、
第2偏向手段によって光学装置の虚像形成領域が構成される形態とすることができる。ここで、このような光学装置を、便宜上、『第1構造の光学装置』と呼ぶ。尚、「全反射」という用語は、内部全反射、あるいは、導光板内部における全反射を意味する。調光装置の射影像内に第2偏向手段(虚像形成領域)が位置する。更には、調光装置を構成する基板の一方によって、第2偏向手段、あるいは、第1偏向手段及び第2偏向手段は被覆されている形態とすることができる。
(光透過率)=1-(遮光率)
の関係にある。
(A)観察者の頭部に装着されるフレーム10、
(B)フレーム10に取り付けられた画像表示装置100,200,300,400,500、及び、
(C)外部から入射する外光の光量を調整する調光装置700、
を備えている。尚、実施例の表示装置は、具体的には、2つの画像表示装置を備えた両眼型としたが、1つ備えた片眼型としてもよい。また、画像形成装置111,211は、単色の画像を表示する。
(a)画像形成装置111,211、及び、
(b)画像形成装置111,211から出射された光に基づき虚像が形成される虚像形成領域を有する光学装置120,320,520、
を備えている。更には、実施例1あるいは後述する実施例2~実施例4、実施例6~実施例9における画像表示装置100,200,300,400にあっては、
(c)画像形成装置111,211から出射された光を平行光とする光学系(平行光出射光学系)112,254、
を備えており、光学系112,254にて平行光とされた光束が光学装置120,320に入射され、導光され、出射される。
(b-1)画像形成装置111,211から入射された光が内部を全反射により伝播した後、観察者に向けて出射される導光板121,321、
(b-2)導光板121,321に入射された光が導光板121,321の内部で全反射されるように、導光板121,321に入射された光を偏向させる第1偏向手段130,330、及び、
(b-3)導光板121,321の内部を全反射により伝播した光を導光板121,321から出射させるために、導光板121,321の内部を全反射により伝播した光を偏向させる第2偏向手段140,340、
を備えている。そして、第2偏向手段140,340によって光学装置の虚像形成領域が構成される。また、調光装置700の射影像内に第2偏向手段(虚像形成領域)140,340が位置する。更には、調光装置700を構成する基板の一方によって、第2偏向手段140,340は被覆されている。光学装置120,320は、シースルー型(半透過型)である。
第1基板711A、
第1基板711Aと対向する第2基板711B、
第2基板711Bと対向する第1基板711Aの対向面に設けられた第1透明電極712A、
第1基板711Aと対向する第2基板711Bの対向面に設けられた第2透明電極712B、及び、
第1透明電極712Aと第2透明電極712Bとによって挟まれた調光層、
から成る。実施例1において、調光装置700は、更に、第1透明電極712Aの一部の上に形成された第1電極716Aを備えている。そして、第1電極716Aは、直接、調光装置700の遮光率を制御するための制御回路(調光装置・制御回路)に、図示しないコネクタを介して接続されている。また、第2透明電極712Bの一部の上に形成された第2電極716B、及び、第2電極716Bに接続され、且つ、接続部以外は第2電極716Bと接しないように設けられた第2接続部(図示せず)を更に備えており、第2接続部が図示しないコネクタを介して調光装置・制御回路に接続されている。場合によっては、第1電極716Aに接続された第1接続部が設けられ、第1接続部が調光装置・制御回路に接続されていてもよい。また、場合によっては、第2電極716Bが、直接、調光装置・制御回路に接続されていてもよいし、第2透明電極712Bの一部と接する第2接続部が設けられ、第2接続部が調光装置・制御回路に接続されていてもよい。

(A)観察者の頭部に装着されるフレーム10、
(B)フレーム10に取り付けられた画像表示装置100,200,300,400,500、及び、

を備えた表示装置である。そして、画像表示装置100,200,300,400,500は、
(a)画像形成装置111,211、及び、
(b)画像形成装置111,211から出射された光に基づき虚像が形成される虚像形成領域を有する光学装置120,320,520、
を備えている。更には、調光装置700は、

第1基板711Aと対向する第2基板711B、
第2基板711Bと対向する第1基板711Aの対向面に設けられた第1透明電極712A、
第1基板711Aと対向する第2基板711Bの対向面に設けられた第2透明電極712B、

第2透明電極712Bの一部と接して形成された第2電極716B、及び、
第1透明電極712Aと第2透明電極712Bとによって挟まれた調光層、
から成る。ここで、光学装置120,320,520は、調光装置700の少なくとも一部分と重なっており、第1基板711Aへの第1電極716Aの射影像と、第1基板711Aへの第2電極716Bの射影像とは、重なっていない。そして、第1基板711Aへの第1電極716Aの射影像と、第1基板711Aへの第2電極716Bの射影像との間に、第1基板711Aへの虚像形成領域(第2偏向手段140,340)の射影像が位置する。そして、第1電極716A、第2電極716Bの構成、構造として、実施例1において説明する各種の構成、構造を適用することができる。
光源251、
光源251から出射された光を平行光とするコリメート光学系252、
コリメート光学系252から出射された平行光を走査する走査手段253、及び、
走査手段253によって走査された平行光をリレーし、出射するリレー光学系254、から構成されている。尚、画像形成装置211全体が筐体213(図16では、一点鎖線で示す)内に納められており、係る筐体213には開口部(図示せず)が設けられており、開口部を介してリレー光学系254から光が出射される。そして、各筐体213が、取付け部材19によって、着脱自在に、テンプル部13に取り付けられている。

[A05]光学装置は調光装置に取り付けられている[A01]乃至[A04]のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
[A06]フレームは、観察者の正面に配置されるフロント部、フロント部の両端に蝶番を介して回動自在に取り付けられた2つのテンプル部、及び、ノーズパッドを備えており、
調光装置はフロント部に配設されている[A01]乃至[A05]のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
[A07]フロント部はリムを有し、
調光装置はリムに嵌め込まれている[A06]に記載の表示装置。
[A08]光学装置は、
(b-1)画像形成装置から入射された光が内部を全反射により伝播した後、観察者に向けて出射される導光板、
(b-2)導光板に入射された光が導光板の内部で全反射されるように、導光板に入射された光を偏向させる第1偏向手段、及び、
(b-3)導光板の内部を全反射により伝播した光を導光板から出射させるために、導光板の内部を全反射により伝播した光を偏向させる第2偏向手段、
を備えており、
第2偏向手段によって光学装置の虚像形成領域が構成される[A01]乃至[A07]のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
Claims (5)
- (A)観察者の頭部に装着されるフレーム、
(B)フレームに取り付けられた画像表示装置、及び、
(C)外部から入射する外光の光量を調整する調光装置、
を備えた表示装置であって、
画像表示装置は、
(a)画像形成装置、及び、
(b)画像形成装置から出射された光に基づき虚像が形成される虚像形成領域を有する光学装置、
を備えており、
光学装置は、調光装置の少なくとも一部分と重なっており、
前記調光装置の側辺には、第1電極及び第2電極が形成され、
観察者の鼻側を内側、耳側を外側と称し、光学装置の虚像形成領域と対向する調光装置の領域を虚像形成領域対向領域と称したとき、
調光装置の動作時、
前記第2電極には前記第1電極よりも相対的に高い電圧が印加され、
(イ)虚像形成領域対向領域に対して上方領域及び外側領域から虚像形成領域対向領域の中央部に向かって調光装置の遮光率が減少するような電位勾配、又は、
(ロ)虚像形成領域対向領域に対して下方領域及び外側領域から虚像形成領域対向領域の中央部に向かって調光装置の遮光率が減少するような電位勾配、又は、
(ハ)虚像形成領域対向領域に対して外側領域から虚像形成領域対向領域の内側領域に向かって調光装置の遮光率が減少するような電位勾配、又は、
(ニ)虚像形成領域対向領域に対して下方領域から虚像形成領域対向領域の上方領域に向かって調光装置の遮光率が減少するような電位勾配、又は、
(ホ)虚像形成領域対向領域に対して外縁領域から虚像形成領域対向領域の中央部に向かって調光装置の遮光率が減少するような電位勾配が得られ、
調光装置は、
第1基板、
第1基板と対向する第2基板、
第2基板と対向する第1基板の対向面に設けられた第1透明電極、
第1基板と対向する第2基板の対向面に設けられた第2透明電極、及び、
第1透明電極と第2透明電極とによって挟まれた調光層、
から成り、
調光層は、エレクトロクロミック材料を含み、第1透明電極側から、WO3層、Ta2O5層及びIrXSn1-XO層の積層構造を有する表示装置。 - 光学装置は調光装置に取り付けられている請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- フレームは、観察者の正面に配置されるフロント部、フロント部の両端に蝶番を介して回動自在に取り付けられた2つのテンプル部、及び、ノーズパッドを備えており、
調光装置はフロント部に配設されている請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - フロント部はリムを有し、
調光装置はリムに嵌め込まれている請求項3に記載の表示装置。 - 光学装置は、
(b-1)画像形成装置から入射された光が内部を全反射により伝播した後、観察者に向けて出射される導光板、
(b-2)導光板に入射された光が導光板の内部で全反射されるように、導光板に入射された光を偏向させる第1偏向手段、及び、
(b-3)導光板の内部を全反射により伝播した光を導光板から出射させるために、導光板の内部を全反射により伝播した光を偏向させる第2偏向手段、
を備えており、
第2偏向手段によって光学装置の虚像形成領域が構成される請求項1に記載の表示装置。
