  Smoking articles such as cigarettes are usually housed in packs, and the general function of the pack is to store the cigarettes and protect them from mechanical and environmental damage. Various cigarette pack configurations are known in the art, including hinged lid packs and shell packs with sliding inserts. The hinged lid pack includes a fuselage and a lid to form a space for holding a bundle of smoking articles. The lid is attached to the rear panel of the fuselage along the hinge line and can rotate between the open and closed positions. In the closed position, the lower edge of the front wall of the lid abuts the upper edge of the front panel of the fuselage to form a flush outer finish surface.   Further, the lid 9 of the blank 20 includes the rear wall 14, the upper wall 12 and the front wall 13 as described above. The upper and rear walls 12, 14 of the lid 9 are formed with side flaps 18 that overlap the side walls 16 of the front wall 13 of the lid 9 when the blank 20 is folded. In order to improve the appearance of the pack 1 and to avoid steps or irregularities along the lower edge 15 of the lid from which the flap 17 extends, the fold line 17a is adjacent to the left on the side of the blank facing outward. A continuous cut along the length from the lower edge section 15a to the right adjacent lower edge section 15b is partially cut or scored so that the flap 17 is folded inward. When straight, the straight edge of the lid edge is aligned with the left and right adjacent lower edge sections 15a, 15b. Thereafter, when the pack 1 is closed, the upper edge 5 of the fuselage 2 abuts the left and right adjacent lower edge sections 15a, 15b and the straight lower edge portion. Of course, cuts or notches along the fold line not only reduce the thickness of the material, but also assist in folding the flap about the fold line.

  Apart from the above-described embodiment, the fold line may be cut or scored partially through its thickness rather than over its entire length. For example, the flap may be stabilized at the time of manufacture without making a cut or notch in a small part of the fold line. The small part may be a section about 1 mm long on either side of the fold line, or alternatively, one unbroken section may be placed in the middle of the fold line. Of course, the section is very small compared to the length of the fold line described in the prior art, so it is offset from the lower edge of the adjacent lid as described in the introductory part of this specification. The possibility of forming a step is reduced.

  Of course, the scope of the present invention is not limited to the shape of the closing line 8 illustrated in FIGS. A pack formed by any irregular closure line having a straight portion extending from the flap may also benefit from the present invention and be included within the scope of the present application.

  The pack according to the present invention is assumed to accommodate an internal frame 30 as illustrated in FIG. The inner frame 30 shown in FIG. 3 is bent along a fold line of a wavy line to form a rounded corner. The inner frame 30 is formed by the cutout portion 31 to make it easy for the user to take out the smoking article. As shown in FIG. 3, the inner frame 30 is provided with a tab 32 that engages with the inner surface of the side wall of the lid so that the pack does not open or loosen unintentionally.
