(項目15)
潤滑剤組成物におけるデポジットを制御する方法であって、少なくとも1つのPIBポリマーブロック(ブロックA)および少なくとも1つのPVAポリマーブロック(ブロックB)を0.5から0.97のブロックA/(ブロックA+B)のモル比で含むブロックコポリマーを、該潤滑剤組成物に添加することを含む方法。

該組成物は、潤滑粘度の油を含む。こうした油として、天然および合成油、水素化分解、水素化、および水素化仕上げ(hydrofinishing)から得られる油、未精製油、精製油、および再精製油、ならびにこれらの混合物が挙げられる。
該組成物は、他の性能添加剤を場合により含む。他の性能添加剤は、金属不活性化剤、従来の清浄剤(当技術分野で公知であるプロセスによって調製される清浄剤)、分散剤、粘度調整剤、摩擦調整剤、摩耗防止剤、腐食防止剤、分散性粘度調整剤、極圧添加剤、抗スカッフィング剤、酸化防止剤、消泡剤、抗乳化剤、流動点降下剤、シール膨張剤、およびこれらの混合物のうちの少なくとも1種を含む。典型的には、完全に調合された潤滑油は、これらの性能添加剤のうちの1つ以上を含有する。
分散剤は、多くの場合、無灰系分散剤として公知である。なぜなら、これらの分散剤は、潤滑油組成物に混合する前に、灰形成金属を含有せず、また、潤滑剤およびポリマー分散剤に添加する場合に、通常はいかなる灰形成金属も与えないからである。無灰系分散剤は、比較的高分子量の炭化水素鎖に結合する極性基を特徴とする。典型的な無灰分散剤としては、N−置換長鎖アルケニルスクシンイミドが挙げられる。N−置換長鎖アルケニルスクシンイミドの例としては、数平均分子量が350から5000または500から3000の範囲のPIB置換基を伴うPIBスクシンイミドが挙げられる。スクシンイミド分散剤およびその調製は、例えば、米国特許第4,234,435号に開示されている。スクシンイミド分散剤は、典型的には、ポリアミン、典型的にはポリ(エチレンアミン)または芳香族ポリアミン、例えばアミノジフェニルアミン(ADPA)から形成されるイミドである。
潤滑剤組成物は、他の公知の中性または過塩基性の清浄剤を場合によりさらに含む。好適な清浄剤基質としては、フェネート、硫黄含有フェネート、スルホネート、サリキサレート(salixarate)、サリチレート、カルボン酸、リンの酸(phosphorus acid)、モノ−および/もしくはジ−チオリン酸、アルキルフェノール、硫黄カップリングアルキルフェノール化合物、またはサリゲニンが挙げられる。種々の過塩基性の清浄剤およびその調製法は、WO2004/096957を含めた多数の特許公開およびその中に引用された参考文献に、より詳細に記載されている。
酸化防止剤化合物は、公知であり、例えば、硫化オレフィン、ジアリールアミン、ヒンダードフェノール、モリブデン化合物(ジチオカルバミン酸モリブデンなど)、およびこれらの混合物が挙げられる。酸化防止剤化合物は、単独で、または組み合わせて使用することができる。酸化防止剤は、潤滑組成物の0重量%から20重量%、または0.1重量%から10重量%、または1重量%から5重量%、いくつかの場合には1.5重量%から3.0重量%の範囲で存在することができる。
本発明のポリマーは、粘度調整剤として働くことができるが、他のタイプの追加の粘度調整剤が存在していてもよい。こうした粘度調整剤は、周知の材料であり、水素化スチレン−ブタジエンゴム、エチレン−プロピレンコポリマー、水素化スチレン−イソプレンポリマー、水素化ラジカルイソプレンポリマー、ポリ(メタ)アクリレート(多くの場合、ポリアルキルメタクリレート)、ポリアルキルスチレン、ポリオレフィン、および無水マレイン酸−スチレンコポリマーのエステル、またはこれらの混合物が挙げられる。こうした追加の粘度調整剤は、潤滑組成物の0重量%から15重量%、または0.1重量%から10重量%、または1重量%から5重量%、または、いくつかの場合には0.5重量%から2重量%を含めた範囲で存在することができる。
潤滑剤組成物は、少なくとも1種の他の摩耗防止剤を場合によりさらに含む。摩耗防止剤は、潤滑組成物の0重量%から15重量%、または0.1重量%から10重量%、または1重量%から8重量%、または、いくつかの場合には0.5重量%から2重量%を含めた範囲で存在することができる。好適な摩耗防止剤の例としては、リン酸エステル、硫化オレフィン、硫黄含有無灰摩耗防止添加剤および金属ジヒドロカルビルジチオホスフェート(ジアルキルジチオリン酸亜鉛など)、チオカルバメート含有化合物、例えばチオカルバメートエステル、チオカルバメートアミド、チオカルバミン酸エーテル、アルキレンカップリングチオカルバメート、およびビス(S−アルキルジチオカルバミル)ジスルフィドが挙げられる。
潤滑剤組成物は、抗スカッフィング剤を含有することもできる。抗スカッフィング剤化合物は、接着摩耗を減少させると考えられ、多くの場合、硫黄含有化合物である。典型的には、硫黄含有化合物としては、有機スルフィドおよびポリスルフィド、例えば、ジベンジルジスルフィド、ビス−(クロロベンジル)ジスルフィド、ジブチルテトラスルフィド、ジ−tert−ブチルポリスルフィド、オレイン酸の硫化メチルエステル、硫化アルキルフェノール、硫化ジペンテン、硫化テルペン、硫化Diels−Alder付加物、アルキルスルフェニルN’N−ジアルキルジチオカルバメート、ポリアミンと多塩基酸エステルとの反応生成物、2,3−ジブロモプロポキシイソ酪酸のクロロブチルエステル、ジアルキルジチオカルバミン酸のアセトキシメチルエステル、およびキサントゲン酸のアシルオキシアルキルエーテル、ならびにこれらの混合物が挙げられる。
油に可溶性である極圧添加(EP)剤としては、硫黄−およびクロロ硫黄−含有EP剤、塩素化炭化水素EP剤、およびリンEP剤が挙げられる。こうしたEP剤の例としては、塩素化ワックス;有機スルフィドおよびポリスルフィド、例えば、ジベンジルジスルフィド、ビス−(クロロベンジル)ジスルフィド、ジブチルテトラスルフィド、オレイン酸の硫化メチルエステル、硫化アルキルフェノール、硫化ジペンテン、硫化テルペン、および硫化Diels−Alder付加物;ホスホ硫化(phosphosulfurized)炭化水素、例えば硫化リンとテルペンチンまたはオレイン酸メチルとの反応生成物;リンエステル、例えば、二炭化水素および三炭化水素亜ホスフィット、例えば、亜リン酸ジブチル、亜リン酸ジヘプチル、亜リン酸ジシクロヘキシル、亜リン酸ペンチルフェニル;亜リン酸ジペンチルフェニル、亜リン酸トリデシル、亜リン酸ジステアリル、およびポリプロピレン置換フェノールホスフィット;金属チオカルバメート、例えば、ジオクチルジチオカルバミン酸亜鉛およびヘプチルフェノール二酸バリウム;ホスホロジチオ酸の亜鉛塩;アルキルおよびジアルキルリン酸のアミン塩(例えば、ジアルキルジチオリン酸とプロピレンオキシドとの反応生成物のアミン塩を含む);ならびにこれらの混合物が挙げられる。
腐食防止剤などの他の性能添加剤としては、米国出願US05/038319(2004年10月25日に出願、記名された発明者としてMcAteeおよびBoyer)の第5から第8段落に記載されているもの、オクタン酸オクチルアミン、ドデセニルコハク酸または無水物および脂肪酸(オレイン酸など)とポリアミンとの縮合生成物が挙げられる。一実施形態では、腐食防止剤としては、Synalox(登録商標)腐食防止剤が挙げられる。Synalox腐食防止剤は、典型的には、プロピレンオキシドのホモポリマーまたはコポリマーである。Synalox(登録商標)腐食防止剤は、The Dow Chemical Companyによって発行された、Form No.118−01453−0702 AMSの製品パンフレットに、より詳細に記載されている。この製品パンフレットは、「SYNALOX Lublicants,High−performance Polyglycols for Demanding Applications」というタイトルである。
本発明のコポリマーは、あらゆる潤滑剤組成物に好適である。このポリマーは、粘度調整剤および/または分散性粘度調整剤(多くの場合、DVMとも呼ばれる)として使用することができる。
下の反応図に従って、塩化クミル開始剤とTiCl4プロモーターとを用いるリビングカチオン重合を介して、PS−PIBコポリマーを調製した。得られたコポリマーは、約19.4モル%のスチレンおよび80.6モル%のイソブチレンを有し、13900のMw、11200のMn、および1.23の多分散度を有した。
下のスキーム図に従って、高ビニリデン5000Mn PIBから、ATRPマクロ開始剤へのヒドロホウ素化変換、および最終的にスチレン−b−イソブチレンへの変換によって、PS−PIBコポリマーを調製した。得られたコポリマーは、約4.7モル%のスチレンおよび95.3モル%のイソブチレンを有し、10600のMw、および8600のMnを有した。
PS−PIBコポリマーの熱分解の種類、速度、および程度を決定するために、TGAを使用して、実施例1および2のプロセスに従って生成された生成物を、PIB(Mw 37,000、約40〜50%の高反応性PIB)、スチレン−ブタジエンゴム(SBR)(Mw 130,000、約29モル%のスチレン)、およびOCP(Mw 130,000)のサンプルと比較した。
(i)脂肪族である炭化水素置換基(例えば、アルキルまたはアルケニル)、脂環式(例えば、シクロアルキル、シクロアルケニル)置換基、ならびに芳香族−、脂肪族−、および脂環式−置換芳香族置換基、ならびに、環が分子の別の部分によって完成されている(例えば、2個の置換基が共に環を形成する)環状置換基;
(ii)置換炭化水素置換基、すなわち、非炭化水素基(これは、本発明の文脈では、置換基の主となる炭化水素の性質を変更しない)を含有する置換基(例えば、ハロ(特にクロロおよびフルオロ)、ヒドロキシ、アルコキシ、メルカプト、アルキルメルカプト、ニトロ、ニトロソ、およびスルホキシ);
(iii)ヘテロ置換基、すなわち、主となる炭化水素の性質を有しながら、本発明の文脈では、環または鎖内の炭素以外を含有し、それ以外は炭素原子から構成される置換基。ヘテロ原子としては、硫黄、酸素、窒素が挙げられ、ピリジル、フリル、チエニル、およびイミダゾリルとしての置換基が包含される。ヒドロカルビル基内の10個の炭素原子ごとに、一般に、2個以下、好ましくは1個以下の非炭化水素置換基が存在し;典型的には、ヒドロカルビル基には非炭化水素置換基は存在しない。
Claims (12)
- 潤滑粘度の油と、少なくとも1つのポリ(イソブチレン)(PIB)ポリマーブロック(ブロックA)および少なくとも1つのポリ(ビニル芳香族)(PVA)ポリマーブロック(ブロックB)を0.96のブロックA/(ブロックA+B)のモル比で含むブロックコポリマーとを含む潤滑組成物。
- 前記PVAが、ポリ(スチレン)(PS)である、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- ブロックAが、10モル%未満のジエン由来の単位を含む、請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 前記ブロックコポリマーが、リビングカチオン重合を介して生成される、請求項1に記載の潤滑組成物。
- 前記ブロックコポリマーが、リビングカチオン重合およびATRP重合を介して生成されたブロックコポリマーの混合物である、請求項1に記載の潤滑組成物。
- 前記ブロックコポリマーが、ATRP重合を介して生成される、請求項1に記載の潤滑組成物。
- 前記コポリマーが、1000から1,000,000の数平均分子量を有する、請求項1に記載の潤滑組成物。
- 前記コポリマーが、10,000から250,000の数平均分子量を有する、請求項7に記載の潤滑組成物。
- 前記コポリマーが、1から1.6未満の多分散度を有する、請求項1に記載の潤滑組成物。
- 前記コポリマーが、1.01から1.4の多分散度を有する、請求項9に記載の潤滑組成物。
- 前記コポリマーが、ジブロックコポリマーである、請求項1に記載の潤滑組成物。
- 前記コポリマーが、逐次ブロックコポリマーである、請求項1に記載の潤滑組成物。
