The present invention relates to a method for producing western pumpkin seed oil, which comprises heating and drying a mixture of western pumpkin seeds and cotton, excluding cotton, and pressing the western pumpkin seeds whose seed coat surface has been modified by heating.
Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method for producing western pumpkin seed oil, characterized in that a mixture of western pumpkin seeds and cotton is burned in an open flame to remove the ashed cotton and the dried western pumpkin seeds are squeezed.
Further, the present invention is to heat a mixture of western pumpkin seeds and cotton in a reduced state (low oxygen state), and to extract the western pumpkin seeds whose seed coat surface has been denatured by heating, except for carbonized or non-carbonized cotton. It is related with the manufacturing method of the characteristic Western pumpkin seed oil.

Pumpkin is an annual or perennial plant of the cucurbitaceae, and is roughly divided into three types: oriental pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata), western pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima), pepo pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo). Or it is mainly a western pumpkin that is processed into frozen food or cooked food. Oriental pumpkins are said to be Japanese pumpkins and have a sticky and sticky texture, but now, Western pumpkins are mostly grown and consumed. Pepo pumpkins are very different from oriental and western pumpkins that have seeds with shells (seed coats). They are characterized by having seeds without shells and are rarely cultivated in Japan. There are small ones, elongated ones, and ones having a peculiar shape, and zucchini used in Western cuisine is a kind of peppo pumpkin, but peppo pumpkins other than zucchini are often used for decoration rather than edible. In addition, it is oil extracted from pepo pumpkin seeds that is produced overseas as edible oil (pumpkin seed oil). In the present invention, fats and oils extracted from conventionally known peppo pumpkin seeds are called pumpkin seed oil, and fats and oils extracted from western pumpkin seeds tried in the present invention are called pumpkin seed oils.

In this way, pumpkin seed oil products are sold under the name “pumpkin seed oil”, which are derived from peppo pumpkin seeds, and the present inventors have found a production method. It is not taken from Western pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima), which is currently processed in Japan, either edible or frozen or cooked.
Western pumpkins that are cultivated in many countries in Japan originate from the plateaus of Central America and South America, and in Japan, the Tohoku region and Hokkaido are the main production regions, reflecting the climate of the country of origin. The cultivation area of Western pumpkins in Japan is 16,900ha and the harvest is 220,400t in FY2006. Among them, 67% is used for raw foods distributed to homes as pumpkins, and 33% is used for processing cooked foods. When used for processing, approximately one third of the pumpkin is discharged as seeds and cotton.

Some of the seeds and cotton discharged during the processing of western pumpkins have been used in the past as feed and compost. However, even if you try to use it in the raw state, the cotton rots quickly and the seed germination It has been shunned by farmers because of its high rate, aging as compost, and the time and effort required for composting seeds. Therefore, most of the seeds and cotton discharged during the processing of western pumpkins are currently treated as agricultural waste. Western pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) seeds used in the present invention are agricultural waste when processed into frozen foods, cooked foods, etc., and are discharged about 24,000 tons annually including cotton. Pumpkin seeds and cotton discharged during processing have been reduced as compost to livestock feed or farmland so far, but the consumption as feed has reached the limit due to distance problems in the processing plant and intensive discharge. ing. It can not be said that it is suitable for compost because it has a high germination rate and requires a long time for ripeness to be used as compost. For this reason, attempts to industrially make fertilizers and feeds have also been made, but high costs in the crushing and drying processes have become issues, making it difficult to put to practical use. Accordingly, Western pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) seeds are both unused biomass and agricultural waste. By producing pumpkin seed oil that can be used as a raw material for food or medicine from this unused biomass, the present invention is also useful from the viewpoint of effective use of resources and reduction of waste.

On the other hand, dry seeds of Western pumpkin contain about 20% oil, which is a fine edible oil raw material.
Of the 220,400 tons of Western pumpkins harvested in Japan, the amount of remaining discharged seeds and cotton used for processing is about 24,200 tons, from which about 8,000 tons of dry seeds are obtained. This dry seed contains about 1,600 tons of oil, and a large amount of fat resources that can be used for food is discarded every year.

On the other hand, it is known that western pumpkin seed oil has certain physiological effects in addition to its fragrant flavor being preferred for food. As described above, it is expected that the demand for western pumpkin seed oil, which has not been known so far, from the aspect of containing a physiologically active substance will further increase. From such a viewpoint, it is required to efficiently squeeze oil from currently unused western pumpkin seeds. However, there have been various problems in squeezing oil from the seeds of western pumpkin.

Usually, in order to obtain edible oil from agricultural seeds such as rapeseed, the seed is heated by a cooker (a jacket-type tank heated by steam at 115 ° C.), and then the oil is collected by an oil press.
However, the reason why oil has not been squeezed from western pumpkin seeds in Japan has been that the large amount of cotton discharged together with pumpkin seeds could not be separated. Western pumpkin cotton is tightly bound to the seed coat covering the seed surface with a conduit, making it difficult to remove cotton from the seed. When the seeds are put into an oil press to obtain the oil, the contaminated cotton becomes an obstacle and the oil cannot be obtained. That is, oil squeezed from seeds is absorbed by contaminating cotton and cannot be collected as separated oil.

On the other hand, “Pumpkin Seed Oil” has existed for a long time in Europe. Cucurbita pepo, which has been cultivated for a long time in Europe to obtain “pumpkin seed oil”, has a very thin seed coat covering the surface of the seed and exposed cotyledons. Therefore, the seed and cotton are only very loosely connected by the conduit, and the seed and cotton can be easily separated. Therefore, squeezing oil from a seed excluding cotton with an oil press is used for food.
Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to efficiently squeeze seed oil from a large amount of Western pumpkin seeds and cotton impurities discharged from the process of producing cooked food.

The inventors of the present invention have conducted intensive research on a method for efficiently extracting western pumpkin seed oil.
First, the amount of oil extracted when a mixture of raw Western pumpkin seeds and cotton discharged from a Western pumpkin processing plant was extracted with an oil press.

Table 1 shows the amount of oil extracted when Western pumpkin seeds and cotton are directly compressed without drying. As can be seen from the table, the amount of oil squeezed was absorbed by cotton and there was almost no oil squeezed. This is almost the same result even if the cotton is removed considerably, which shows that the oil absorption amount of cotton is excessive.
Western pumpkin cotton is tightly bound to the seed coat covering the seed surface with a conduit, making it difficult to remove cotton from the seed. When the seeds are put into an oil press to obtain oil, this cotton becomes an obstacle and the oil cannot be obtained. That is, oil squeezed from the seed is absorbed by the mixed cotton and cannot be collected as pumpkin seed oil.

Figure 0005679832
Figure 0005679832

And since it is almost the same result even if cotton is removed considerably, it turned out that not only the amount of cotton absorption is large, but also the oil content is absorbed into the seed coat of seeds.
Therefore, by removing cotton from the mixture of seeds and cotton discharged during the processing of western pumpkins, the method is such that the squeezed oil is obtained without being absorbed by the cotton, and the seed coat is obtained without oil being absorbed. Various methods have been studied.

First, the most commonly considered method for removing cotton is washing with water. After stirring the mixture of seeds and cotton with a powerful mixer, the seeds and cotton were separated with a wire mesh sieve. The disadvantage of this method is that a large amount of water is used, so the load of wastewater treatment is large, and the wastewater treatment facility of a normal pumpkin processing factory cannot handle it. Moreover, the seeds obtained after washing with water contain a large amount of water and cannot be squeezed as it is. It is necessary to dry the seed and pass it through a heating machine such as a cooker and then apply it to an oil press.

Therefore, we found a method of burning in a direct fire to remove the cotton from the mixture of Western pumpkin seeds and cotton and at the same time destroy the cork-like tissue of the seed coat so that it can be easily squeezed. .
That is, by moving the mixture of western pumpkin seeds and cotton in a rotating cylinder and baking it with a burner, the cotton burns and is removed as ash, and the cork-like tissue of the seed coat is removed. It was destroyed by heating, and the seeds were also dried to promote oil separation, so that the oil could be easily squeezed with an oil press.

Table 2 shows the oil yield when Western pumpkin seeds and cotton are dried, heated with a cooker, and then squeezed.

Figure 0005679832
Figure 0005679832

The method for producing western pumpkin seed oil of the present invention can easily separate seeds from a mixture of western pumpkin seeds and cotton, and at the same time, the seeds are dried and the porous tissue of the seed coat is denatured and destroyed by heating. Since the squeezed oil can be obtained without being absorbed by the seed coat, it is useful for squeezing western pumpkin seed oil.

The method for producing western pumpkin seed oil according to the present invention facilitates western pumpkin seed oil by removing cotton from a mixture of western pumpkin seeds and cotton by heating and simultaneously destroying the cork-like tissue of the western pumpkin seed coat. The oil can be squeezed.
Therefore, we removed the cotton from the mixture of Western pumpkin seeds and cotton, and at the same time destroyed the cork-like tissue of the seed coat so that it could be easily squeezed and burned with an open flame. I found it.
In other words, a mixture of Western pumpkin seeds and cotton is put in a rotating cylinder and moved, and then burned in a direct burner to burn and remove ash, and the seeds are dried to separate the oil. The cork-like tissue of the seed coat was destroyed by heating, and it became possible to easily squeeze the pumpkin seed oil without the oil extracted by the oil press being absorbed by the cork-like tissue of the seed coat.

The seed coat that has become an obstacle to oil collection together with cotton, making it easier to ash and remove the oil that has become an obstacle to oil collection by adsorbing the oil extracted by a seemingly simple method of baking with an open flame of a burner This cork-like tissue can be destroyed by heating to prevent oil permeation, and it is an epoch-making method that produces an effect that oil content is easily separated by increasing the dryness of seeds.

However, in the above method, when burning cotton, there is a concern about generation of dioxins, and when the amount of cotton is very large, it is difficult to completely ash the cotton.
Therefore, as a result of intensive research on the processing method of the mixture of western pumpkin seeds and cotton, by heating the mixture of seeds and cotton at a high temperature in a reduced state, that is, in a low oxygen state, the cotton is carbonized and becomes fine. Particles could be separated from the seeds.
This is similar to the principle of charcoal pots, and cotton is exposed to high temperatures of 400-600 degrees while moving the mixture of seeds and cotton in a closed container with openings at the entrance and exit. Carbonized and peeled off from the seed coat and turned into fine particles. The mixture was washed with water or treated with high-pressure air to separate seeds and cotton very easily and completely.
In addition, the seed was exposed to high temperature, and the cork-like tissue of the seed coat was destroyed, so that oil penetration could be prevented and oil extraction became easy.
Further, when this method is used, even if the amount of cotton is very large, the cotton can be easily carbonized and finely removed without any problem.
When seed and cotton are exposed to such high temperatures in the presence of oxygen, they will burn and dioxins will be generated. Therefore, by carrying out high temperature heat treatment in a reduced state, that is, in a low oxygen state, combustion was suppressed and separation from the seed coat by carbonization of cotton could be achieved.
In addition, by adjusting the heating temperature and the heating time to be low and short, cotton tissue can be separated without carbonization and cotton and seeds can be separated. Even in this non-carbonized heating, it is essential to heat in a reduced state (low oxygen state). High temperature heating in the aerobic state causes combustion and dioxin generation.

With the discovery of this method, the seed and cotton mixture can be continuously and safely treated for 24 hours, and the thermal efficiency is greatly improved compared to combustion with a burner, greatly contributing to productivity and cost reduction. To do.
Moreover, since heating is performed in a reduced state (low oxygen state), there is almost no generation of dioxins and there is no environmental pollution due to waste incineration.
As a heating method, an industrial microwave oven or superheated steam can be used. However, these devices have a large capital investment, and it is disadvantageous in cost to install them in a pumpkin processing factory.
The western pumpkin seed oil refined using the above method had a green-yellow transparent liquid and had a fragrant flavor peculiar to western pumpkin seed oil. It can be used as a food or drink as it is or with other raw materials.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to examples. However, these are merely illustrative, and the present invention is not limited thereto.

(Production of Western Pumpkin Seed Oil in Reduced State-2)
A mixture of 2t of raw pumpkin seeds and cotton 1: 4 was heated using a reduction drying carbonizer (Yakubei D type; manufactured by Sankei Seisakusho Co., Ltd.) while continuously moving in the furnace with a screw conveyor. . The furnace temperature was 400 degrees and heated for about 70 minutes. After the heat treatment, the mixture of seeds and cotton that had been made into non-carbonized fine particles by high-pressure air was removed. The seeds were dried with an air dryer and then squeezed using a pressing machine V-05 manufactured by Suehiro EPM to obtain 19 kg of oil. The oil was allowed to stand, and the supernatant was filtered to obtain a greenish yellow transparent western pumpkin seed oil.

By the production method of the present invention, cotton is removed from the mixture of seeds and cotton discharged during processing of the Western pumpkin, and the porosity of the seed coat is destroyed, so that the squeezed oil is obtained without being absorbed by the cotton or seed coat. Western pumpkin seed oil can be easily obtained from the seeds of western pumpkins that have been treated as agricultural waste.
