Description
The present invention relates to a water electrolysis system including a water electrolysis apparatus that electrolyzes water to generate oxygen and high-pressure hydrogen having a pressure higher than that of the oxygen, and an operation method thereof.
Generally, hydrogen is used as a fuel gas used for a power generation reaction of a fuel cell. This hydrogen is produced by, for example, a water electrolysis device. The water electrolysis apparatus uses a solid polymer electrolyte membrane (ion exchange membrane) in order to decompose water and generate hydrogen (and oxygen). Electrode catalyst layers are provided on both sides of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane to form an electrolyte membrane / electrode structure, and power supply bodies are disposed on both sides of the electrolyte membrane / electrode structure to provide unit cells. Is configured.
Therefore, a cell unit in which a plurality of unit cells are stacked is supplied with voltage at both ends in the stacking direction, and water is supplied to the anode-side power feeding body. For this reason, water is decomposed and hydrogen ions (protons) are generated on the anode side of the electrolyte membrane / electrode structure, and the hydrogen ions permeate the solid polymer electrolyte membrane and move to the cathode side to bond with electrons. Thus, hydrogen is produced. On the other hand, on the anode side, oxygen generated together with hydrogen is discharged from the cell unit together with excess water.
In the above water electrolysis apparatus, moisture-containing hydrogen is produced, and moisture is removed from the hydrogen to obtain a dry state, for example, hydrogen having a moisture content of 5 ppm or less (hereinafter also referred to as dry hydrogen). There is a need.
At that time, in a high-pressure hydrogen production apparatus in which hydrogen at a pressure higher than oxygen (for example, 1 MPa or more) is obtained on the cathode side, there is a problem that a gas-liquid separation apparatus for removing moisture from the high-pressure hydrogen becomes large.
Therefore, for example, a gas-liquid separator disclosed in Patent Document 1 is known. As shown in FIG. 5, the gas-liquid separation device includes a
The
The first
When the solenoid valve 7 is closed, the extraction of the high-pressure hydrogen gas from the
In the above water electrolysis system, when the second back pressure valve 8 is opened and liquid water passes through the second back pressure valve 8 and is discharged from the
The present invention solves this type of problem, and can eliminate the need for the drainage structure of the gas-liquid separator with a simple configuration and process, and can perform efficient water electrolysis. It is an object to provide a system and a method for operating the system.
The water electrolysis system according to the present invention includes a water electrolysis device that electrolyzes water to generate oxygen and high-pressure hydrogen having a pressure higher than that of the oxygen, and is disposed above the water electrolysis device in the direction of gravity. A gas-liquid separator that separates water contained in hydrogen; a hydrogen introduction line that introduces the high-pressure hydrogen discharged from the water electrolysis device into the gas-liquid separator; and a water level in the gas-liquid separator. A water level detection device; and a current adjustment device that adjusts a current applied to the water electrolysis device based on the detected water level in the gas-liquid separation device.
The present invention also includes a water electrolysis device that electrolyzes water to generate oxygen and high-pressure hydrogen that is higher in pressure than the oxygen, and is disposed above the water electrolysis device in the direction of gravity and is included in the high-pressure hydrogen. Gas-liquid separation device for separating the water to be generated, a hydrogen introduction line for introducing the high-pressure hydrogen discharged from the water electrolysis device into the gas-liquid separation device, and a water level detection device for detecting the water level in the gas-liquid separation device And a method of operating a water electrolysis system comprising a current adjustment device that adjusts a current applied to the water electrolysis device.
In this operation method, the water level detection device detects the water level in the gas-liquid separation device, and when it is determined that the detected water level in the gas-liquid separation device is equal to or higher than the specified water level, And a step of limiting an applied current to a specified current value or less.
According to the present invention, the water level in the gas-liquid separator is detected, and the current applied to the water electrolyzer is adjusted based on the detected water level of the gas-liquid separator. When the water electrolysis apparatus is operated at a high current, the amount of moisture that permeates from the anode side to the cathode side is larger than the amount of moisture that is returned from the cathode side to the anode electrode. On the other hand, when operating at a low current below a certain current, the amount of water returned to the anode side, which is the low-pressure side, is larger than the amount of water that permeates from the anode side to the cathode side. Has been evoked.
For this reason, when it is determined that the detected water level in the gas-liquid separation device is equal to or higher than the specified water level, the amount of return water is transmitted by limiting the current applied to the water electrolysis device to the specified current value or less. Beyond the amount of water, water on the cathode side is substantially returned to the anode side.
Accordingly, since the water level in the gas-liquid separator can be controlled, it is not necessary to provide a special drainage structure in the gas-liquid separator. Thereby, the drainage structure of the gas-liquid separator can be eliminated with a simple configuration and process, and efficient water electrolysis can be performed.

The high-pressure hydrogen from which moisture has been removed by the gas-
The operation of the
First, when the
In the
Therefore, in each
Therefore, water is decomposed by electricity in the anode electrode catalyst layer 50a, and hydrogen ions, electrons, and oxygen are generated. Hydrogen ions generated by this anodic reaction permeate the solid
Thereby, hydrogen flows along the
On the other hand, oxygen generated by the reaction and unreacted water flow through the first flow path 64, and these mixed fluids are discharged to the
The hydrogen generated in the
At that time, in the
Therefore, as shown in FIG. 3, the electrolysis current is determined based on the water level WS in the
Next, when the
Further, when the operating temperature of the
As described above, in the first embodiment, the water level WS in the gas-
For this reason, since the water level WS in the gas-
FIG. 4 is a timing chart illustrating an operation method according to the second embodiment of the present invention.
In the first embodiment, the electrolysis current is intermittently controlled as shown in FIG. 3, whereas in the second embodiment, the water level WS is continuously maintained so as to maintain a constant water level control value. Minute control is performed.
Therefore, in the second embodiment, it is only necessary to control the electrolysis current, and it is possible to eliminate the need for a dedicated drainage structure with a simple configuration and process, and the same effects as in the first embodiment described above can be obtained. can get.
