Description
本出願は、名称を「Monitoring of a Food Intake Restriction Device」とする、2006年4月6日出願の米国特許出願第11/398,940号(現在US2006/0199997として公開されている)の一部継続出願であり、この特許出願の教示が、参照により全体として本明細書に組み込まれる。
本発明の実施形態は、一般的に、植え込まれた制限的開放装置(implanted restrictive opening device)に関し、より具体的には、植え込まれた食物摂取量制限装置に関する生理学的パラメータを監視するための通信システムに関する。
肥満は、肥満の人数が増え続けるにつれて、特に米国では高まりつつある関心事であり、肥満の健康への悪影響について、より多くのことが知られている。理想体重を45.36kg(100ポンド)以上上回る病的肥満には、特に、危険な健康問題に対して著しいリスクがある。したがって、肥満患者の治療には大きな注目が集められている。病的肥満を治療する1つの方法は、胃の上方部分の周りに、細長いバンドなどの制限装置を置くことであった。胃バンドは、典型的には、固定された端点を備えた、流体で満たされたエラストマーバルーンを含んでおり、このバルーンは、食道‐胃接合部のすぐ下方で胃を取り囲み、バンドの上に小さな胃嚢を、そして胃の中に、縮小された瘻開口部を、形成する。流体がバルーンの中に注入されると、バンドは、胃に対して拡張し、胃に、食物摂取量制限部もしくは瘻を作り出す。この制限を減らすために、流体がバンドから除去される。バンドの効果は、利用可能な胃容積、ゆえに、「満腹」になる前に消費されうる食物の量、を減らすことである。
一態様では、植え込み可能な制限装置からの情報もしくは植え込み可能な制限装置に関する情報を表示する、生理学的監視装置用のディスプレイが提供される。例えば、例示的なディスプレイは、調節可能な胃バンドなどの植え込み可能な制限装置により囲まれた領域の配置(disposition)の模擬グラフィックを含むことができ、模擬グラフィックは、その領域にわたる配置のサイズを示す。示されたサイズは、植え込み可能な制限装置により感知され、かつ生理学的監視装置に伝達されるパラメータに少なくとも部分的に基づいていてよい。感知されたパラメータは、本明細書に記載されるこの実施形態および他の実施形態では、種々のパラメータ、例えば圧力、パルス計数、パルス幅、パルス持続時間、パルス振幅、パルス周波数、感知された電気的特性などを含みうる。いくつかの実施形態では、模擬グラフィックは、囲まれた領域のグラフィック表現上に表示された1つ以上の等圧線(isobars)を含んでよく、等圧線は、その領域における配置の周辺部が、感知されたパラメータを示すように、感知されたパラメータ値を表す。等圧線は、感知されたパラメータ値に関する状態を、信号で知らせるために、色を変えることができる。他の実施形態では、模擬グラフィックは、瘻の断面画像、解剖学的管腔の周りに配された制限装置の画像、巨丸剤(bolus)の画像、アイコン、印(markings)、および/もしくは3次元画像を含みうる。模擬グラフィックは、ある期間にわたり植え込み可能な制限装置により感知された圧力(もしくは他のパラメータ)に従って、開口部のサイズの変化を示す、ビデオ画像も含みうる。模擬グラフィックは、植え込み可能な制限装置が植え込まれた患者の身体から得られた画像に基づいていてもよい。ディスプレイは、感知されたパラメータの文字インジケーター、グラフもしくはダイヤルインジケーター上に示された、感知されたパラメータデータ、および/または植え込み可能な制限装置の制限状態の表示をさらに含みうる。
